Cant install itunes or quicktime
I recently got a new computer (windows 7 x64) and went to download itunes onto it. Everytime I do I get an error saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I extracted the files and i am able to individually install bonjour, mobile device support, and application support. I cannot install the itunes.msi or the applesoftwareupdate. I get the same error message when I try to do so. The same thing happens when I try to install quicktime normally or via an extracted folder. (quicktime is not part of the itunes extracted folder, does quicktime not come with itunes anymore?)
Ive looked around and saw that the main solution seems to be to "repair" the file in the add or remove programs folder. However, I cannot do that because I am unable to install the apple software file, so applesoftwareupdate is not in the add or remove programs folder. I have tried removing all apple related files, using both "fix it" and Revo, and restarting the download. I still get the same error message. I am completly at a loss here. Any help would be amazing and appreciated.
b noir, Sorry, my mistake. Quicktime isnt even in the extracted folder, it is not installed on my computer currently. I swear I thought I got it to install, I guess not. I get the same error message when I try to install quicktime. Maybe I can try the same trick with an older version of itunes that comes with quicktime?
The extracted itunes folder has appleapplicationsupport, applemobiledevicesupport64, applesoftwareupdate, bonjour64, itunes64, and setupadmin. I can not install applesoftwareupdate, or itunes64.msi and setupadmin doesnt seem to do anything when i open it.
When I try to install itunes64.msi I get the same error message. It automatically installs the other files just like trying to install the normal, unextracted itunes64setup. applesoftwareupdate seems to be the culprit here.

That's a bit rarer. It's a 1723 error message. (1721 and 1722 are more common.)
Even though the following user tip is about slightly different errors (the 1721 and 1722), perhaps try it with your one too:

I cant install Itunes on my windows 8 laptop. (unspecified errors encountered)
I have tried to install Itunes and Icloud on my windows 8 laptop. I have hunted all through the laptop and see no sign that any apple product has ever been on this laptop, yet iget errors during the install process that causes the installer to abort the install and go right to finish. I have tried to install Itunes repeatedly and it always fails at the same point. Icloud also fails to install. I get a message that says errors have been encountered, but no indication of what those errors are. can anyone suggest a fix for this? or tell me what it is I am doing wrong?

QuickTime version 7.1 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes.
That's the error message I have gotten for the past 3 days since trying to upgrade itunes. I have the newest quicktime downloaded, have deleted itunes and quicktime and redownloaded it all, and it still won't work. I have NO idea what to do to make this work, but it's driving me crazy. If anyone can help, please give some advice. You can try to fully remove both iTunes and Quicktime. Then reinstall the software again. The following link will walk you through the removal of both programs. Make sure you complete Step 16 in the article. Good luck.

Hey, just installed the newest version of iTunes today off the iTunes site.
Getting the following message:
quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.0.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes.
I have re-downloaded the install file and ran the "repair" option, but no good has come, same error.
Any suggestions?
P.s. It worked fine after the install was first complete, it was after I restarted the PC that it wouldnt work.I needed to hunt down an instal file for JUST quicktime (not quicktime and iTunes - doesnt work)

My error message is: Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime 7.0.3 or higher. Please reinstall iTunes.
This all started when I was trying to upgrade. I have downloaded the new quicktime and when it came to the option of reparing or uninstalling, I chose repair.
I read through other problems, but didn't find this error message.
Can anyone please help me? In a way in which I don't lose my library?Sorry. Um. Try to completely remove the Quicktime program from the Add/Remove directory via Control Panel. Reboot your computer. From the Apple website Save the Quicktime program to your Desktop (i.e., rather than "run from this location.") Install Quicktime by clicking on the Quicktime install program that should be present on your desktop. When it is done, reboot your computer.

I hope that that is the correct link. -

Hey jonesmason,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like a required component of iTunes is not currently installed on your computer. To resolve the issue, you may need to completely remove iTunes and related components, then reinstall. It is important to uninstall the components in the order listed in this article:
