Cant install itunes to my PC or to hubbies Mac. On PC it goes to the end of install

Just bought an ipod nano for husbands birthday. Now we cant get itunes to install on either of our computers. On his Mac, when trying to install the 10.4 version it wants to try to update to 10.5...he doesnt want to do this as it will affect other programs he is running for work. On my PC it downloads & installs, but when it gets to the end of install it say that the program didnt install fully. It has downloaded Quick Time player onto my desktop, but no itunes. Any suggestions, this is fast turning out to be the worst present I have ever bought him.

To run iTunes 10.4 on the Mac, you need to be at Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later.

It requires you to have Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) installed, which can be obtained from the Apple Store.
You being on Mac OS X 10.4 makes it an old system, 10.6 and 10.7 require an Intel processor at least with Lion demanding an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor.

Try to use "software update" option
to to apple menu -> software update or system preference -> Software update
( you may try to use an old package on new system )

Connect the iPhone to your Mac, launch iTunes.
If you haven't done this yet, go to the iTunes menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer
Now from the iTunes menu bar again, click File / Transfer Purchases From...

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

I install itunes 10.3 64 bits on windows 7 prof. and all icons of the other programmes are replaced by itunes.

When I install itunes 10.3 64 bits all icons of other programmes change to the itunes icon. I am using windows 7 pro.
