  • Logic Studio on new Macbook pro retina

    Hi,
after 6 years my macbook "died" ... :-( I am thinking about buying a new macbook pro retina..
My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • Install logic on my new macbook pro 2012

    Hi guys,
ive been scrolling the internet for days and actually can't find the solution to my next problem:
I bought the new macbook pro 15" running mac osx 10.7.4.
now i want to install logic 9 on this computer. Before this i've already been using logic on two computers, my Mac Pro and my older macbook pro (2008).
I installed logic pro 9 as in upgrade to Logic pro 8.
Ive tried installing logic pro 8 on the new laptop but it wont let me, says the new macbookpro doesnt support this program anymore.
Now ive tried installing logic 9 on the new macbook pro and it wont allow me. It wont accept my product liscence, I've tried it a hundred times, but it just wont let me.
Im not planning on using the older laptop anymore, should i uninstall logic from it? If so... how come i can't find the location of the liscence?
really hope hearing from u guys soon....

    Let us know result.
I think the OP will need to try and run L8 after he copies it, enter the serial for L8 then install the L9 upgrade.
Logic 8 will run in Lion, it just won't install because the L8 install uses some PowerPC code that needs the Rosetta emulation. Lion doesn't do Rosetta.

  • Newly installed logic studio won't launch on my macbook pro

I just installed Logic Studio on my macbook pro (core 2) and it crashes before it can launch all the way. could this be a conflict with my protools LE software, or Reason? any ideas? thanks.

Have you downloaded the .01 update for LP8? That should improve things a fair bit. Don't know about the MBox2; might want to their website on that one.

  • How can I install logic 9 on new mac 10.8

how can I install logic 9 on new macBook pro 10.8?
My Cd rom shows Logic 7 and on the old mashine (MacBook white 10.6) I have Logic pro 9.
My MacBook pro 10.8 does't accept the Cd Rom...

    Kerrse,
    ...and it's content?
While your method will get the app itself across.. the content will present a possible problem, though once it is updated to 9.1.8 the OP could try the "in menu' option to download content but the essential stuff normally gets installed from the DVDs initially with LP9 Boxed set... so it may not be as easy as simply copying across the app only.
    However, worth giving a try.....

  • What's the best way to (re)install Logic Studio? Need Help.

I bought Logic Studio a few months ago and installed it on my new MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 2G Ram, 160G hard drive @ 7200 rpm. Being new to Logic, at install, I just put all 40+ gigs of content on the computer. After a while I considered putting the Apple Loops (roughly 12gigs) onto an external hard drive to save space on my computer, just to see if it would work, then consider moving more content over later. After doing this the Logic application couldn't find the Apple Loops, and I couldn't find a way to help it see the new path, so my Apple Loops were essentially rendered useless (since I had already deleted them from the computer). So I stopped right there, and haven't done anything else. Just worked with Logic without using Loops, which I have to say is still an incredible program.
What also seemed strange was this: In moving the Apple Loops, the available disk space on the computer didn't seem to change much. It went down a few gigs, but not the 12 or so I was expecting. Not sure why that is. It seems like Logic and all the content is actually taking up around 50 gigs or so on my computer (and the Apple Loops are supposedly gone or not available). What is that about?
Feeling like I had really fouled things up, I called Apple Care. They said that the content of Logic is stored in many places in the computer's libraries and system folders, but it was really confusing trying to locate all of it, because the info they sent was from Logic 7 and older versions of GarageBand. I guess Logic 8 is too new for them to have anything on it. There is no uninstall for Logic Studio. But they strongly recommended that I perform an Erase and Install, and then re-install all my software including Logic, and then assign the hard drive I wanted the content in. That would open up a lot of the computer's hard drive space, they said. It seemed like an extreme measure to take for such a small blunder, and I haven't tried it yet, but will if it's the best option.
If I do this, is running Logic content (i.e. Loops, Impulse Responses, Jam Packs, etc.) from an external hard drive (and the one I have to use is 5400rpm--is that too slow or am I getting too picky?) the best way to go, or should I have all Logic material coming from the same machine? How do I get some of my hard drive space back?
    Ugh.
Has anyone out there experienced this too? Is there anything documented about where the content is stored for Logic Studio? Is Erase and Install really the best thing to do in this situation?
    So many questions...
    Thanks.

    Hey Blue,
Let me see if I can help you a bit.
Logic Studio has 28+ gb of loops. Almost 23 for STP and 6 for the Jam Packs, etc. They should be located in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple (that's the default install loc.). Copy them to an external drive and then delete them from your main drive. Go to /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Indexes and delete those text files. Now go to /Library/Preferences/Soundtrack Pro and delete those text files, too (more Loop Indexes).
Now open Logic Pro and it will say 'No Apple Loops found'. Click 'OK' and then open your Loop Browser. Drag all the Jam Pack folders, STP folder, etc. that you want to use onto the Loop Browser. Logic will ask you if you want to 'Copy to Loops Folder' or 'Current Location'. Choose 'Current Location'. Logic will now index the loop folders.
NOTE: You can change the names of the folders to suit your liking. For example: I added the 2, 3, 4, 5 after the Jam Pack names to make it look smoother on the popup menu and changed iLife Sound Effects to Sound Effects - iLife and Apple Loops for STP to STP. Now the Jam Packs 1-5 come up first on the popup menu and the FX stay at the bottom. I likee!!
Now, if you like you can take your EXS Factory Samples and Ultrabeat Samples, 3.35 & .889 gb respectively, and copy them to an external drive. I have mine in the same place as my Jam Packs, etc. You can find these files in /Library/Application Support/Logic. Toss out the originals and put ALIASES from the external drive back into the /Lib/App Sup/Logic folder.
Also, if you open STP and click the Search tab in the right pane you will see a button that says 'Setup' next to it. Click that and you can use the checkboxes in the window to activate/deactivate any of the loop folders available.
A clean install is the best IMO if you have a little time because a) you DO NOT have to install GB at all (that saves the .aif file size - Logic Studio uses .caf files at half the size of the originals) b) Logic Studio will install the extra GB or Logic 7 content if you need it at it's reduced size. It will basically get rid of all the old clutter that you do not need. Only install what JP's you want and move the bigger stuff to an external.
Rock up Logic and it should all be in place. That procedure saved me 32.5 gb on my main drive.
NOTE #2: You have another 12 gb (if you installed all Jam Packs) that reside in the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler. These are the Jam Pack Instruments & Sampler files for World, Symphony, etc. They cannot be moved from the startup HD (as far as I can tell). So keep that in mind if you don't want a certain JP.
    Hope that helps,
    Dave

  • Need to make space in my Hard drive to install Logic Studio Upgrade

    ok. Here's my problem:
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.
I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3
When it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.
Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.
Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...
    Thank you
    Fran

Well, first i would decide what you need the computer for. If you use iPhoto and iTunes, maybe moving the libraries to external HD may free up a significant amount of HD space.
Also, look for apps you don't need anymore, look for ancient data that can be zipped&archived away. That's a lot of work, but is worth the time, because you get to know what really is on your HD. I have so many small apps&tools lying around on my HD clogging space, but in fact i only used them once or twice in a lifetime, so better delete them.
BTW: Make sure you have enough space on your HD not only to install Logic studio but have some extra GB's for the OS to shuffle data around. No OS likes a full HD.
My strong suggestion would to give your Macbook to a trustworthy Mac store where they install a bigger HD and copy everything over to the new one.

  • I am trying to install Logic studio on my second computer and it wont accept the serial number

I already have Logic Studio on my Macbook with no problems. Now I want to install it on my Imac, but it keeps saying that my serial number is invalid.
The serial number is correct.Does anybody know why this would be happening.

First thing to check is that your entering the correct serial number and not say the product code etc, then tripple check the characters are correct like a figure one not a letter i, zero instead of letter O. Stupid I know but it's caught a dullard like me out a number of times!
There should be no reason why it wouldnt work - ive got the same Logic Pro 9 on my macbook and now new iMac.
Hope you get it sorted okay.

  • Logic Studio on new IMAC ?

I bought Logic Studio 08 three years ago for 499 Euro (which is approximately 700 US dollar) and upgraded my IMAC 24 (bought at the same time)
to a new IMAC 27 recently.
I also bought the USB Drive to install my Apple Products that i bought earlier (like Logic Studio).
When i tried to install Logic Studio from my DVD I was not even able to start the installer on my new IMAC. "Does not support Power PC" it says.
I called Apple for help. Guess what they said ?
It is true, Logic Studio is not working. You cant use it anymore.
No, we dont provide an upgrade for Logic Studio. Buy a new one for full price.
Hello ? Are you serious ?
The program i used to work with is just over three years old and you cant expect people to pay several hundreds of dollars every two or three years to buy the new version.
i put 2000 Euro down the drain and will try to return my new IMAC. I am really angry about that kind of "support".
I have been using Apple for decades but this new policy makes the once user friendly brand an absolute no go for me.

I have neither Logic 8 nor Final Cut Studio 2, but both seem to suffer from this particular bug; that is, installers that will not work in Lion/Mt. Lion & return a PowerPC dialog box, but actual applications that will run in Lion/Mt. Lion when properly installed.
If you search this forum since Lion has been introduced, you will see some suggestions to FCS2 users to actually install Rosetta from a Snow Leopard disc into Lion and it will install.  It is not clear if this suggestion works for Mt. Lion.
I do not recall seeing anyone claim that this suggestion would work for Logic 8.
However, it has never made any sense to me that if you could install Rosetta into Lion and get a PowerPC Installer to work, why wouldn't a PowerPC application work; which of course they will not!  Hence, I began to theorize that it must be a bug in a program written for Leopard/Snow Leopard that was cropping up in Lion/Mt. Lion as a "PowerPC app" problem, when it was really not one.
Also, I theorized that installing Rosetta into Lion/Mt. Lion could later lead to downstream problems which could become serious and indeed I read one post recently that may have confirmed that problem.
Finally I came across a blog by Jeremy Johnstone, Installing Final Cut Pro Studio 2.0 on 10.7 Lion w/o Rosetta, which ironically had NEVER been quoted on this forum before, that postulated for different reasons that it was not a Rosetta problem and described a workaround for installing FCS2 using Terminal.  I was able to get independent confirmation on this forum that his installation method actually works!
So in theory, it should work for Logic 8 (as well as any of the other so-called PowerPC installer apps for programs that work in Lion/Mt. Lion, if there are any more), too.  Before I could get a user of Logic 8 to test this theory, I came across Barney-15E's discussion of the roaringapps solution using Terminal.
I suspect that maybe roaringapps came up with their Terminal install suggestion for Logic 8 from Jeremy Johnstone (or maybe my posts here on this forum), as well, but I have no direct information one way or the other.  As far as I know, roaringapps do not cite their source.
In any event, this Terminal solution is another tool in the toolbox for installation of these programs instead of the "install Rosetta" one that I believe is dangerous (and some suggest using Pacifist, too).
Maybe you can do some experimentation if you have these programs and report back to us, too?

    Yes
The licence details depend on how you originally purchased Logic. The original (DVD) licence allows for you to have Logic installed on 2 computers, provided that you do not use both at the same time.
The Appstore Licence allows you to install on any computer that you own. See this article for a simple guide

  • Unable to Install Logic Studio

I am trying to install Logic Studio and am failing every time.
    I have a Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz with 1.25 mb Ram running OSX 10.4.10
I am able to start the installation, choose the location of the install, and select which components I'd like to install. I have decided to limit the install to only Logic Pro and leave out all the other programs as my harddrive doesn't have the space.
So according to that, only two items are checked. Logic Pro, and Apple Loops Utility under Tools. It's telling me that it requires 5.7 GB harddrive space, which I have. I click upgrade and type in my password. It installs Logic Pro, installs Logic Node, and when it tries to move on to Logic Utility (or something like that, the screen changes too quickly) it goes to 3% and gives me an error.
Then it tells me to "please try installing again"
I've tried installing logic node separately but it still doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong? Normally I'm ok with computers, but i guess only on PC's. Macs are a new world to me.
I just realized I only have Garageband 2. Is it because I don't have Garageband 8?

Maybe this is inapropriate but I once got very lucky by just cleaning the DVD which was full of finger prints, After I cleaned it...It worked.
Like must of us I have a lot of experience being frustrated, even the most knowlegable among us get frustrated at time.
What I would do is proceed in a mechanical way step by step (computers hate this)
    1. Clean DVD,
    2. Seat down and read the install procedure.
    3. Disk Utility, Startup disk>Verify and Repair disk permission
    2. Trash Logic Pro 8, Sound Track Pro, Main Stage and Garage Band (Save GarageBand Files
somewhere else if you need too)
    3. Go toFinder > Empty Trash
    4. re-install The absolute minimum (No Node dont need this yet) (Maybe you're forced to it I dont
remember) but if you have the choice the answer is always NO
    5. Proceed slowly reading carefully all instructions.
    6. Repeat 1-5. If this dont work Maybe you have deficient DVD's it Happen (It happen to me)
Honestly Your system seams to be bare bone minimum to run Logic Pro 8. Maybe Logic has out grow it.
    Best of luck

In that case... Install it on your New Mac using the Disc(s) and have all your Serial Numbers handy in case you are asked for them during the Install.
After the successful install... run Software Update to get any and all Updates... Then Restart your Mac and you should be good to go.
    PS:
Make sure your MBPr is connected to the Mains for this Long process...

  • 8 hours to install Logic Studio?

i just bought a 2.4Ghz 15" unibody macbook pro. i also installed 4 gigs of RAM and I opted for the 250Gb 7200RPM drive.
i am now installing Logic Studio and i chose to have everything installed.
i am really surprised to see the Logic Studio installer said it will take 8 hours to install! right now, it's at 7 hours and 17 minutes.
i installed this same copy/version of Logic Studio on my Dual 2.0 G5 (that only had about 1.5Gigs of RAM) about a year ago and i remember it taking only 2 - 3 hours to install.
why is it taking much longer to install on a much faster machine?

Hahahaha... I went into 'panic mode' when I first started to install Logic. Said something like 5 hours and it was already 9 at night. It (Logic) was completely loaded by 11:15 so as I'm sure you've found by now, don't worry about what your screenshot says. Hope this helps anyone else who has yet to install the program. ~King
