Hi sunnyhanda!
You are probably using a Model Specific, or Upgrade install disc.
What type of discs are they?
You must use a a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
Additional info in these links.
Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
What's A Computer Specific Mac OS X Release
Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
If you would like purchasing options, please advise.
If one is available, have you installed a Firmware Update?
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.

  • New hard drive cant install mac os x

Was having the question mark on start up problem, did everything I could and still didn't work. Ended up taking it to a mac store and they said i needed a new hard drive. Bought a new hard drive at bestbuy installed it and now Im trying to install mac os x.. my problem is that when it gets to the point that says "Select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X" there is nothing to select. Is it still not recognizing the new hard drive? If I start the computer up with out the mac os x install cd i still get the question mark with the new hard drive in. Does that mean the computer might be jacked and its not the hard drive?? Thanks

    What ds store said.................
Hold c and boot off the OS X installer disk that came with the computer first.

Hi cant seem to make the wireless connection between my Imac and the wireless printer
    - this is when it goes wrong > I have followed few a steps in systemprefs nbut when I click in the menu "HP laserJet Professional Utility on "HTML-config" the HP screen does not pop up .
What perhaps essential thing do I miss?
    Thanks,
    Jan

    Hi @Janvdwk,
I understand that the HTML config won't open. I can help you with this.
Depending on which Mac version you are running, I will provide you with the steps to resolve this issue.
If you are using another operating system other then 10.9 or 10.8, please let me know.
    10.9 Steps:
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. (sometimes the EWS won't open if it isn't set as the default)
Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Here is a Youtube video of the Laserjet P1102w wireless installation on Maverick.
    Laserjet P1102w.
You may follow the steps instead of watching the video.
I would reset the printer first.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
Printing a Configuration Page. Select Method two.
Delete the Laserjet P1102w from the Printers and Scanners window.
Connect the USB cable from the printer to the computer.
Turn the printer on, connect the USB cable and run the Apple Updates.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it just lists the full name of the printer.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
From the Printers and Scanners window, highlight the Laserjet on the left side of the window.
Then click on Open Print Queue, click on Settings, click on Utility, click on Open Printer Utility, then click on the HTML Config button.
The Embedded Web Server for the printer will open.
Click on the Networking tab, select Wireless on the left side.
Fill out the information for your network. Make sure infrastructure is selected. Status: make sure you select Enabled.
    Apply the settings.
Then go back to Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners and click the + sign to add the Laserjet Bonjour printer. (it might take a couple of minutes to appear)
Make sure you are adding the Laserjet P1102w driver beside Use. You might have to click on the drop down to select it.
Delete the USB printer from the list from the Printers and Scanners window.
Disconnect the USB cable and test the printer.
    Test the printer now.
    10.8 Steps:
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. (sometimes the EWS won't open if it isn't set as the default)
Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Connect the printer to the Mac by the USB cable.
    Run the Apple Updates.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it just lists the full name of the printer.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
Close out all applications. You can access the HTML from this location or try again from printers and scanners.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, computer, Mac Harddrive, Library, Printers, HP, Laserjet, P1100_P1560_P1600Series, open HTML config.
Go to the Network tab, select Wireless on the left side, select infrastructure, select network name, select the double
arrow button to move the network name over to the left side, fill in passwords, apply.
You should get a solid blue wireless light in about 1 minute.
Then go to the Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners, highlight the P1102w and click the minus at bottom left corner to delete it, (USB driver) then disconnect the USB cable, click the plus sign in bottom left corner and highlight the P1102w Bonjour printer, beside Use: make sure it shows the proper printer name. You might have to click on the drop down to select your printer.
    Test the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

Hello.I am quite new here.I am trying to install os 10.4.8.I inserted it but its not mounting on the desktop.I tried restarting while pressing the C key but that didnt work.I only have a cd drive on my mac.Someone told me that maybe the disc I have are DVDs.I really dont know.I have two and number one is mac os version 10.4.8
    AHT version 3A118
    Disc version 1.0
    2z691-5967-a
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The 10.4 disk is most likely a DVD and will say as much printed on it.
Click on the Menu item  About this Mac > More Info and the under ATA see what sort of Optical drive you have. Look for the name Pioneer, if it is still the original optical drive. If it does not mention DVD then alas you only have a CD and not a DVD reader, which is required to install your 10.4 DVD.
You may well have the Combo DVD reader, but as you only have 128 MB of RAM that is insufficient to run 10.4 This would be the cause of your problem I suspect.

  • Cant install Mac os X on eMac

I want to get rid of my eMac.
I erased the eMac from my Intel Macbook (Using firewire target mode).
I have been trying to install clean Mac os x on eMac, but wont let me. I just get the flashing question mark symbol.
What state should eMac be in? Journaled, non-journaled etc.
    Any ideas?

Do I need the exact dvds that came with the eMac?
You need those or a retail Mac OS X version which is newer than the eMac. Disks designed for a different Mac model won't work.
Whatever you're using, don't perform the installation through FireWire Target Disk mode. If the eMac has no optical drive or if it isn't capable of using that type of disk, put the other computer in FireWire Target Disk mode with the disk in the drive.

  • Help cant not install mac os x on new 20 gig hard drive

Yea it keeps telling me that i cant install mac os x 10.4.4
    on the new hard drive
does the hard drive have to be bigger
i think it might be that it is not the original software restoration disk that cam with the ibook.
if that is the case is there any way around it

More than likely that disc is not compatible with that Mac. You need a retail version of Tiger or that iBook's original restore discs.

  • Can't install mac os x after placing new ssd

    Hello,
i have an original macbook air (13 inch). I was working properly untill it got stuck on the white screen with apple logo while booting. It did restart in recovery but i wanted to fix the problem so i went to my local apple authorized reseller and asked them for help. they told me that my hard disc / ssd was probably broken and if i would, they could replace it. I decided to not let them replace/repair it because for a 5 year old laptop is wasnt worth the money. But
now the macbook is just laying around so i ordered a new ssd, replaced it with the old one after watching some howto-videos. The ssd works.
So with the new ssd installed, i connect my superdrive, put in my mountain lion cd and try to boot. I takes a very long time to boot up, but after 15/20 minutes i am able to choose my language and continue. after that, i am able to open disc utility and format the new ssd the right way. then i go back to the installer, i choose where to install mac os x and then it starts loading, this takes another 5 minutes or so, and after that it starts installing. it says 29 minutes remaining, for about a minute. after that it says Mac os x installation failed, cant install mac os x.
i tought, after replacing the ssd, my macbook would be working again. How is it possible that i cant install mac os x?
    Can anyone please help?
    thanks in advance!

  • The additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found

help, i did a clean reinstall using a USB, now its saying "the additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found" what do i do? i wiped my whole computer!...

Not on my late 2011 15" MBP. When I use just Cammond+r it takes me to the built in recovery HD.
Even with no HDD in the system Command+r gives me nothing, no options at all and certainly not the Internet Recovery system.
Command+Option+r gives me the Internet Recovery system with or without a HDD in the system and with or without a Recovery HD partition on the internal drive.
So it would seem it is different for different models and whether or not there is or isn't a recovery partition on the internal drive.
So for anyone reading this thread try both Command+r and Command+Option+r to boot the computer from the Apple Online Lion Internet Recovery system.
    Thanks.

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
         sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
         /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.
