Hi,
According to your description, I would suggest you check the video card driver, please make sure to install the latest version, you can manually find the latest driver from the manufacture website, then change the resloution again.
Or you can contact the vender, check whether this model of PC fully supports Windows 8.1, it's always recommended to run Upgrade Assistant before you upgrade to Windows 8.1

  • Cant install wine

    Hi all,
Am a new person to arch, loving arch as its really fast and its a challenge to me but this problem has got me stumped, am trying to install wine bin32, I read that 32 bit wine is best for wine x64 version as wine64 is for 64bit apps only, so I am trying to install this version 1.1.38-1 x86_64
so I got all dependecies installed except one and get this error
    ==> Making package: bin32-wine 1.1.38-1 x86_64 (Tue Feb  9 18:10:58 GMT 2010)

I try to install this and can only get lib32-libpng-1.2.40-1  from pacman or packer, am I missing somthing or doing somthing wrong can anyone assist please.
once I get my head round this and some other issues I got I plan to make this my main OS atm I have mint 8 and arch on a dual boot

I think your right, now I did have an issue where pacman would say it didnt like a server on line 2 of the mirrorlist, and sourced it to a mistake I found in the pacman.conf where I uncommented a server and that was causing the issues, so now I just commented out the mirror I was using and at installation and uncommented the great britian mirrors, I did a -syu and I got about 1gb install of updates so maybe there was an issue with the mirrors or somthing, as I always did do a -syu and it always said it was up to date  clearly it wasnt hehe, so I will report back when its finnished updating.
Some repos are more actuall than others, I used a Czech one, but after a trouble with an upgrade of libjpeg and libpng libraries, I tried a German server and had to download about 0,5 GB :-) (It is funny, but it was user "wonder", who helped me. <I wanted to write just wonder, but it should be taken as a word, not a name :-)>)
A really simply mistake can counteract your work very easily :-)

  • Installing Win 7 via Bootcamp on 27' iMac 2010 gives BLACK screen, BLINKING cursor error (BSBCE)?

    Hi All,
All coments appreciated regarding thiis issue.
    I have a 2010 27' i7 2.93Ghz iMac with 8Gb ram, 2Tb Seagate, and 256 Samsung SSD.
I am running 10.6.8 with all updates on the 2Tb Seagate (has BC 3.04), and 10.7.1 on the Samsung (has BC 4.0).
I have tried over a dozen times to install Win 7 (both a 32 bit Professional edition and a 64 bit Ultimate edition) on BC partitions on both drives. These have been all on separate occasions of course.
All installs result in what appears to be a successful install, but when the machine reboots to launch Win 7 for the first time, I ALWAYS get a black screen with a blinking cursor error (BSBCE).
This is not the 2009 video card driver issue problem reported so widely and referred to in the Apple article TS3173. I had that model previously and the way around that was to connect a second monitor/LCD for the installation.
No this is a new and separate issue.
And I am no nubie. I have used IT for over 25 years and teach networking courses in the Win and Mac environments.
The problem appears to be in a corrupt boot loader install.
I have used both WIn 7 install disks to do a repair each time. The repair says it is successful but after rebooting all I get is the black screen and flashing cursor, with no keyboard response. I have used both Bluetooth keyboards and USB keyboards. Nothing seems to make a difference re getting WIn 7 to boot after the install on either drive.
I have also used the Bootrec commands in the command window. They all return a successful outcome but when rebooting I see the ever familar BSBCE.
Now,,,,,here is the real puzzle. I copied my previous Win 7 Ultimate install using Winclone before I sold my older 27' iMac.
If I restore that install to the 2010 iMac Win 7 boots fine!
So some error is happening on my current machine when the bootloader/bootmanager is being written to the BC partition.
The problem is there with the BC on both 10.6 and 10.7, and these are different versions of BC!
Now to further complicate the problem, I manage 12X 2011 21.5' iMacs in a lab at work. Win 7 Professional 32bit installed on these machines just as it should (same disks that produces the black screen flashing cursor).
I have read that some people thing it is a Boot Rom version issue, and there may be some substance to this as WIN 7 installs so easily on the 2011 iMacs in my lab.
I called Applecare about this and went through the procedures outlined above. The guy was very helpful and sympathetic but he had no answer to the problem. His suggestion was to pull the SSD out and do it again with only one drive. As the machine can ship from Apple with both of these drives I really do doubt that pulling the SSD would make a difference.
Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7 work fine, no problems on both drives, so I don't think it is a drive issue.
    OK Mac gurus...over to you.

I have a bookmark for iMac w/ SSD and hard drive.
There is also the 'req'd reading' in http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
with one article on Black screen w/ iMac 2010.

  • Does anyone know about installing Win 8 Pro or Win 10 on a Z5771?

I have tried to put Win 8 Pro on my Z5771 after the failure of win 10. I had win 8 on it last year after installing a patch file from acer. The Win 8 version was not working well so I reverted to Win 7 Premium. But after attempting Win 10 and on the advice of an Acer technical support officer. I reset my acer to factory conditions, installed all the updates (3 years worth) and win 10 still aborted. Now I cant install win 8 either.

It's not entirely clear which operating system originally came pre-installed on your computer.  After you post that information, you should get some better/detailed answers than mine.  Because, I don't know if you've altered your BIOS settings and I don't know what product key is embedded in your BIOS, and I don't know what patch Acer provided for you and I don't know how computer savvy you are and I don't know if you have your files backed up and your recovery partition backed up. However, you will eventually need these links: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media http://forum.crucial.com/t5/The-Cru/Reset-your-SSD-to-factory-settings-Windows-DiskPart/ba-p/162503 http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers Edit: There's two ways to use the windows 8.1 installation USB from link above.  You can either install windows 8.1 pro or you can install windows 8.1 and allow windows update to update you to the pro version.  Not sure which method will work for you. If one method doesn't work, you'll have to start over and create a new USB and try the other. Edit2:  If you haven't already done so, you should also create recovery discs/USB/drives before you proceed with diskpart clean and/or any attempt at installation. http://community.acer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Windows-7-Recovery-options/ta-p/59667 http://community.acer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Windows-8-Recovery-options/ta-p/60811

  • Error message (can't find boot disk) installing win xp on VirtualBox

In trying to install win xp to a VirtualBox vm, I get an error message that a boot disk can't be found. This seems logical to stupid me, as I have not yet installed the win system from the install disk. Instructions that came with the VirtualBox said I must have windows installer on my computer to install win xp. So I downloaded it, but cant figure out how to install it on the vm. To further confuse things, I can't seem to find information as to whether my Intel 2ghz core duo is a 32 bit or 64 bit chip.
Thanks for any help you can give me...
    Phil (confused in Menifee) Green

    Hi, Dave & Dave -
Wow, that took longer than I thought. I have been back for a couple of hours, and spent that time running the uninstall program, and then going to users/library/VirtualBox and deleting that folder, and its contents. Next I downloaded a fresh copy of VirtualBox from the Sun website, installed it on my computer, then ran the VirtualBox set up (setup the settings) and then clicked on the start icon. After the splash screen, I once again got the same error message. I repeated that routine at least three time, all three times I received the same message.
I then got the bright idea to go into my time machine and went back to several days after I had installed the program previously (March 25, 2009) and retrieved both the program from the application folder, and the vb folder from the user library, restoring them to my present computer state. After all, I thought, if it worked on March 25th, those files should work now. DRAT, I was wrong, Got the same message at the same place in the startup routine.
So, Dave and Dave, after a little more futzing around, I'm now back to the same place I was when I first posted about my problem: My win xp disk will still not mount. ****!!!

    2*150gb ata harddisks
    dvd
    cd writer
    firewire card
    multi card reader
    creative audigy 2
it like this.Windows would not start. It comes to login screen and freezes there. So I started to install windows from scratch.I did this before 2 times and there was no problems.
Both harddisks were connected as one on promise ide3 via raid, array 1+0.So i put winxp cd and restart.First problem is i dont get a message if i want to start from cd(i used to gei it before). The install just starts. And it goes find untill first restart.then it restarts and dont ask again if i want to start from cd but just starts from cd and starts install from begining.
Then i desconnected harddisks, removed raid in bios, and connected only on hard to ide2.
I start the pc with winxp cd in and it again dont ask me if i want to start from cd but it only starts, goes good untill first install ,then restarts and instead of continuing install start all from begining.
If i remove the cd sometimes i get ntldr is missing but sometimes i get nothing.pc just restarts.(I tried to install win here maybe 15times untill now).
I tried to put harddisk in another pc and install windows there but i get the same problem.
I reformated hard and check for errors ,no problems found.
I took everything out from pc leaving only nesessery parts ,still the same problem.
So now i just dont know what to do anymore?
I sit with this problem 10days know and have tried everything i could come up with.
Hard is formated with ntfs.Could that be a problem?
Hard is 150gb.Is maybe that the problem?
I say again i have to same harddrives ,samsung 150gb ide.Tried changing them but still the same problem.
It would be very nice if somebody could help me.
    Thank you

-after this part finish i load promise fasttr drivers from floppy succesffuly and continue install
-choose only harddisk showing to install winxp
-format drive(ntfs quick format.have done before normal format also)
-when it finish, install loads files to drive
-then it tell me that pc needs to restart and it will continue install upon restart.press enter to restart now or wait untill this bar comes to an end.
-then it restarts and goes through boot, check promise bios(same as before),check for boot devices and then starts install program from cd all over again from the begining.
-install goes good untill the first restart and then again starts all over again.
if i remove cd it tells me:

    ddr clock 400mhz
    cpu bus clock 200
Just to mention something else also:
I have 3 different winxp cd's and have tried them all so its not the problem with cd.
I have also tried to put harddrive to my older compaq p3 and install win there but i got almost same problems. Also when i connected to my old compaq system as secondary ide it works good but each time when i connected it and disconnected it reports that harddrive is not formated. From my past experience with other hd's it was not like that.So could it be that harddrive is not good. Its few moths old,and i have 2 exactly the same samsung harddrives.Have tried both of them getting the same problems with both.(There is only one harddrive connected to the system now to be clear)
Can you suggest me some good program for checking harddrive for errors?I have used the one from windows,is it good enough?
Well thank you for your time and your help.
    Have a nice day!!!

  • Installing Win 8.1 over Win 7 in Boot Camp

I recently replaced my 2008 MBP with a MBP(retina). I had been running Win 7 Pro on the older machine and thought that it might be OK to install 8.1 on the new machine using Boot Camp. As with most installs that I've been reading, it didn't go very well. I received the following message:
" Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed".
I searched the many discussions surrounding this error message and it appears not to be an isolated thing. There have been many well thought out fixes however most have been at the sacrifice of EFI, which is clearly an advantage to have working when using Boot Camp. I tried the several "fixes" that didn't require a great deal of tinkering within the OS, including downloading the latest ISO from MS, but still the installation failed just as it was about to complete.
Getting fed up with this I installed Windows 7 Pro without a hitch.

I got an mid 2011 imac and installed windows 7 pro ultimate 64bit on it
and upgraded it digitally to windows8 and then upgraded it from windows marketpalce to windows8.1 works great

  • Cannot install Win 8 on a late 2013 iMac using bootcamp on 10.9

I'm trying to install Win 8 on a late 2013 iMac (purchased a couple of months ago)
I have a win 8 pro DVD, but obviously there is no DVD in this iMac. I usally use the DVD drive in my older 2009 iMac for any disk based installs but I can't appear to use it here.
I followed the instructions and downloaded a Win 8 Pro ISO from Microsoft to use with my authentication code, created a bootable USB using bootcamp, created the partition and rebooted. Once I'd entered the code I get to the install location but it says I cannot install on the partition created by bootcamp. Even if I format the partition it says I need a GPT drive but I have MBR, so won't let me install.
I tried several suggestions including creating aprtitions in various other programs and once I even got past that screen, but as soon as it tried to install I got another error saying the MBR was formatted incorrectly and it failed.
I had no issues installing Win 7 via bootcamp on the older iMac, but this one has me stumped. I used to think I knew a bit about computers, but I'm fairly new to Mac related issues as the older iMac has always just worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I just installed Windows 8.1 on my Late 2013.
There are just a couple of things I had to do that deviated from the Boot Camp Installation Manual.
    1.  I downloaded my copy of Windows 8.1 as an ISO image AND as a bootable USB from the Microsoft site.
Not sure why I did that but it came in handy because Bootcamp was taking a very long time to copy the ISO onto the USB stick..
The ISO copying seemed to freeze up, but it's likely that it was just taking a long time, probably 20mins.
So, instead of waiting, I took the contents of the the USB startup stick and simply moved them over to the stick that Bootcamp had formatted for the ISO copy (I cancelled that copy function and deleted any files that had copied but didnt complete).
Once that was done, the machine rebooted from the USB stick and began the normal Windows setup process.
All went very smoothly except that my mouse was not working.
    2.     To get around the mouse issue, I simply plugged in a MS USB Mouse and it worked immediately.
The Bootcamp manual advised that the way around this was to 'click in upper right corner and search for Bootcamp'.   Problem was, it was nowhere to be found.
So, using my MS mouse, I navigated to the 'DESKTOP' icon in Win 8.1 and found File Explorer, which showed my USB stick connected along with Bootcamp and the MS Support File (i.e. All the Apple Drivers).
I began manually clicking on all the driver files until realizing that there IS a Bootcamp executable which will automatically install the drivers for the Nvidia card, keyboard, camera, mouse, etc....
Once that was done, my installation was completed.
The entire process took about an hour, but now that I've done it, it really shouldnt take much more than 45 mins.
I have the late 2013 iMAC, with the GTX780M and 1TB Fusion Drive i5 Quad Core.
For those who are leery about doing this, please note that I'm a PC 'lifer' and this is my very first go-around with doing anything on an Apple product.
It all went much more smoothly than I could have imagined, but if you are not a PC person, you might be a little challenged finding the Bootcamp in File Explorer or doing anything in Win 8.1 to get over these minor hurdles.
    Good luck!
I'm looking forward to getting STEAM up and running to see how this thing games!

  • I have a 4th gen ipod touch. I deleted soundcloud to reload it but now i cant install it cause its only for iOS 7 when it used to have a iOS 6 version. Any idea on how i can get soundcloud on my ipod? cause it sure wont let me now

Basically when i try to reinstall it says its only for iOS 7 or later and that I cant install it. Ive tried everything at this point.
    someone help

    Use this method:
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Big problems. cant install windows xp

    Hello.
I was playing BF2 as i did 200 hours on my HW, then i get a bluescreen.
Cant load win again after this.
Ive tried change the disk to a IDE disk, but same problem.
    I bougth a new mainboard(had 915p) 945p but still same problem.
    I changed cd-roms, gfx-card, PSU, same problem.
I have 4x512mb GEIL DDR2 533mhz ram. Tried to use one and one. same problem with all 4.
    HW:
    PSU: Termaltake 410w
    4x 512mb DDR2 ram. 533mhz.
MSI Geforce 7800gtx (tested Geforce 6600 as well)
MSI 915p mainboard (bought a 945p in hope to solve the problem)
    P4 3,2ghz 2mb emt64
Sata raptor 10000rpm(also tried a IDE disk)
So from my point of view its either my cpu or ram the problem is.
Is it possible that all 4 of my ram is broken?
What happens when i install win xp is that when it comes to starting win setup, i get the bluescreen, or it just stays there.

I used a formatted disk yes. both IDE and SATA.
Been running memtest on a single stick and all 4. Looks fine. no errors.

  • Cant install oracle 8i in windows 2003 server

    hi,
I am a newbie in Oracle. While Im trying to install Oracle 8i in Windows 2003 server , setup is not running. It didn't show anything. When trying to run from auto run, after splash screen nothing came.I formatted hard disk, changed two more hard disks,.changed machine...but cant install it in no way... It is the same case in Windows XP home edition.
But it is running in one of my friend's machine(windows 2003 server)
Please help me with valuable solutions.
    Thanks in advance

Did your friend install on W2003 or upgrade from an older version of the OS?
When trying to run programs on an OS that is not certified for the programs, it is hit-n-miss whether the OS actually has the support files needed for the programs.
Think about this: the Oracle environment needs OS support in the form of DLLs and other files. The contents of the DLLs are made visible as APIs. Each time Microsoft releases patches, it is possible that the APIs that Oracle used are changed. This is extremely true when a new version of the OS is released, and even more true with stripped versions such as XP Home.
If your friend installed and then applied patches, [s]he may have hit the proper API combination. If you appled patches first, you may have skootched your APIs to the point that Oracle can not longer install.
Even if you happen to get it installed, you run the risk of getting clobbered any time you install a new Microsoft patch. The risk is minimized when you use a certified combination of the OS and application.
