Cant install xp on S-ATA single drive.

Hey I am building a new machine with a single s-ata hard drive and 3 other ide roms. I am using a 865pe neo2 board. The board has no promise chip so there is only two s-ata conectors. I am using a WD Caviar 80gig with 8mb buffer. I left the jumper on master and pluged it into the s-ata1 port. I have read many s-ata questions on the forum and have tried to change the settings on the bios from legacy to native and also messed with the DDR voltage. I can recognize the hard disk in the bios and it posts succesful. I have the bios set to native, S-ata only, enabled p-ata, both, S-ata first. I can start the install of windows XP pro with service pack1 and it will format and install files but when the system reboots and the xp loggo comes it loads and then goes to a blue screen with a hard disk config error. Please help!
400w psu
865pe neo2
Pentium 4 533/512k 2.8gighz
WD Caviar S-ATA 80gig 8mb buffer and sure connect cable
512 DDR 333
Asus 52x rom
Creative DVD Rom
Yamaha Burner
Radeon Pro 9000 128mb

:bonk:Ok I changed the overclocking to disabled and then I reinstalled xp. The setup rebooted and went to the windows logo and when the logo screen droped I got a blue error screen asking me to check my Hard disk config. I read the S-ata link and I dont have a cell phone or any  radios in my computer room. I have not tied any cables together and I have used a special sure connect cable made by WD for there Caviar S-ata drives. I have built 2 other systems with raid s-ata 0 configs, but they were both asus boards. I just dont think I understand the MSI board. I really like it and I have thought about changing my computers to MSI boards but I need to get this one working before I would do that. If you have any other ideas I would greatly apreciate it. I dont really understand the shadow cache option or the system cache. Do you think it could have something to do with those?

  • I cant install nw2004s in D or E drive

    HI,
I am not gettting to drive to select before installation the installation is by default in c drive under c:\usr\sap by default..
How can i install my SAP in D drive? ro E drive

    Hi Surya,
Does the issue still persist? If you have tried using C drive initially and never competed the installation, then chances are there that the installation files are still
pointing towards the C: directory. If you do not have any useful data & u wish to format ( you will lose all data in c drive if u format) & try a fresh installation.
    Hope this helps

  • Cant install Tiger to G4/500 (original) drive

Im really stumped as I can run Tiger on another (slower) drive if I swap, on my old g4/500 dual. Ive run DU on the default IBM Deskstar (7200 rpm) drive and it formats the drive fine. Ive run TTP and it doesnt note any errors with this drive (or with any other part of the g4/500 dual).
What does happen when you load Tiger Retail OSX DVD ? It gives "Errors were noted during the installation". Choice is consistently to "RETRY". The error log is viewable but not substantive enough to decipher. Ive tried messing with the drives jumper, but system profile notes that the drive is running as Master anyway.
    Any ideas ? TIA

When you formatted the drive did you select the option to "Zero Out Data"?
This procedure verifies the integrity of the drive media, and identifies and cordons off the blocks of the drive that are unreliable. The standard format procedure simply erases the directory and does nothing to check which parts of the drive you cannot read / write to without error.
I suggest you "zero" the drive, but be warned this takes time - many hours, depending on the size of the drive.

  • Cant install from 10.6 to 10.6.2

This volume does not fulfill the necessary requirements for the update .
I got 150GB of free space . I dont understand please help.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are several steps to try. These are not in order of preference.
    1. Startup from your original disk that came with your MacBook by inserting it, then choose restart and hold the c-key until the grey screen with the Apple logo appears. Choose your language. On the next screen ther will be a menu bar at the top. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, choose your startup drive and Repair Disk. If any repairs were necessary and done rerun Repair Disk until all is clear, then restart normally. If this doesn't work:
    2. Startup in safe mode by holding the shift key until the Apple logo appears. Then try the installation. If no success:
    3. disconnect all peripherals - printer, external drives, etc. Restart and try again.
$. report back to this forum!

  • How to install Windows XP on a single SATA drive?

I am trying without much success to use a single Maxtor 200 GB SATA drive in a non-RAID configuration running Windows XP Home SP 2+. I obtained documentation from the MSI Download site that explains how to do such a thing. However ...
First, out of the box the Drivers & Utilities CD is useless -- can't read it, simply hangs the CD drive.
Second, the drivers from the Download site (IATA_ICH5R) return "incompatible hardware. software not supported on this chipset" messages.
So where do I get the drivers required to install Windows XP on a single SATA drive (to use at point F6 in the Windows XP installation)?
    Regards,
    Bob (ll1951md)
    P.S. Configuration ...
    865PE/G Neo2-P (MS-6728) w/ Intel Extreme Graphics 2, Realtek ALC655 Audio
2 GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR Memory
    Intel P4 3.0e GHz Processor
1 Maxtor 200 GB SATA HD
1 HDS 120 GB ATA HD

Thanks for the tips. I was able to install Windows XP and boot from the SATA drive by using these options and setting the appropriate boot device selections...
    Legacy Mode
    ATA Configuration - PATA only
    SATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA channel selection - both
    Combined Mode Option - S-ATA 1st Channel
    S-ATA Ports Definition - P0 - 3rd./P1 - 4th.
I just wasn't sure if I was really getting "SATA" performance, etc. without specific drivers.
    Thanks again.

  • Newly installed Ultra ATA hard drive not showing up anywhere-HELP!

Just installed (I thought) a 300 GB hard drive on top of my factory installed 40GB. Tried it once as the master and then as the slave. Still, it doesn't show up in disk utility so I can format it. I do not have it set for cable select.
Any help would be appreciated because I couldn't find a similar question in the past posts. Thank you!! ")

I thought it was a Sony but apparently only my CD drive is - I can't tell if it is a WD! Here's are the specs on it... Does that model # tell you anything about it?
    ST340016A:
    Capacity: 38.18 GB
    Model: ST340016A
    Revision: 5.21
    Serial Number: 3HS5SPFX
    Removable Media: No
    Detachable Drive: No
    BSD Name: disk0
    Protocol: ATA
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    OS9 Drivers: Yes
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified
Also, the instructions I have don't tell me how to set up the old HD as master w/slave present. Currently, I have no jumper in the new HD and the old HD has a jumper in the master/single drive spot.
The instructions are more geared to a Windows PC of course. In the troubleshooting section is does talk about having to put a (capacity limiting) jumper on the pins all the way to the right for computers that do not suport high-capacity drives.
Now that I've had some sleep I'm going to get back down there and see if I can't refigure my connector situation.
BTW-yes, I figured out too late that I would not be able to use all of the GB on this drive. This is a learning process for me as I'm a busy mom of 3 boys-I generally figure things out in my "spare" time. Ha, ha! I so love .Mac and the support-what a lifesaver!
I HAD been wondering how difficult it would be to install the controller card. Is that something I can do down the road assuming I actually get my new HD showing up?
    Thanks!

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
         sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
         /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

You need to obtain the drivers from your motherboard manufacturer. The drivers you have downloaded are for STAND ALONE cards only, not for integrated motherboard sound cards. I do know that Gateway and other manufacturers have these bundled with their systems. Try here also for a tweaked driver/install package......
    http://danielkawakami.blogspot.com/
    {****Edit of my own message*****)
I looked for MSI motherboard drivers for that integrated Creative chip and the ones I found were not! for Windows 7. That is why I hope Dan K.'s drivers help you. I have not used that specific Creative onboard chip, so I do not know if Dan K.'s drivers will install. But users in other forums say his package works better than Gateway's inside Windows 7/Vista.
After looking for the options for downloads, I see that there are some drivers out there for integrated realtek/Creative MB software and there are X-FI extreme audio cards that come separately with motherboard that plug in like a standalone sound card. Again, you should check on the MSI home page for their newest drivers. The Creative drivers available straight from Creative may not have your sound card's ID in the driver files for "retail cards" that they have drivers up for. Daniel K and other modders add the proper hardware manufacturer IDs to their driver packs so you can install their ALL IN ONE packs on your system. But I have not seen any users talk of doing that.

  • Installing 500Gig ata hard drive

Hi,I'm going to install a 500gig ata hard drive to go along with my 250gig ata drive. The 250gig is on a 133 controller card that will support 4 drives. My question is:do i format the drive first or can i just clone the 250 to 500 with super duper.

    Hi-
Hard drives add a bit of heat to the interior of the tower, so a PCI slot fan would probably be a wise investment.
Although the PSU would probably be OK, the other upgrades may not appreciate additional heat without additional cooling.
Getting some of the heat out before it all goes through the PSU will help keep the power production steady.
Removing some of the heat from the Radeon and the CPU upgrade with the help of PCI slot fan won't hurt either.
A PCI cooler has minimal amperage requirements, so it should not overburden the power supply.
As compared to earlier drives, late model drives do run cooler.
WD drives are some of the coolest running drives.
One might consider getting some external drives, though. Two internal drives should be plenty for OS, applications and scratch.
Putting files, music, photos, etc. on an external FW drive won't affect performance adversely, and will reduce the heat and power loading of the tower.
Make sure you have an external backup drive that can backup all of your "working" drives.
Another benefit of an external drive housing, is that you can use a SATA drive, up to 2TB capacity now, and connect by FW. This way, you get the benefits of SATA capacity, and don't have to buy a controller card.

  • Audigy 2 Platnum Ex, cant install drive

    hello
i have spent the last two days trying ti install my Audigy2 Platnum Ex after a uninstall.
i have dont everything i know to get the drivers installed but its just not working.
the thing that has angered me is that this is not the first time i had reinstalled this card, but for some unknown reason it's no longer working.
after the uninstall and reboot i get the normaly "found new hardware" popup.
i cancel the popup and load the driver CD, but when i try running the install program i get an error.
    error as follows
    Error
Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy 2 on your system.
Please ensure that your Sound Blaster hardware is properly installed befor running this Setup program
    Setup will now exit.
I dont see how or why it would do that. Windows detects it and its listed in hardware manager.
    Im running Win2k SP4 on an Asus A7N8X DX, AMD Athlon XP 2400, 024MB PC3200 DDR400 ram, Ati Radeon 9700Pro 28MB.
I would be real happy if someone could help me solve this issue.
Im getting real close to using a hammer to try and make it work.

On installation process, don't cancel the driver installation, but when Windows asks you to install drivers for this new hardware, continue --> don't let Windows to search the best possible drivers but point it to look from CD.
You can also install drivers from the CD (or driver update package) manually by running the ctzapxx.exe found on Audio\Drivers -folder (or when installing from driver update, \Drivers\support\i386 (or amd64) of the extracted driver package).
After installation of drivers and reboot, install software.
If you can't get drivers installed --> what model exactly your card is? See the serial number on a sticker on your card (something like MSB02xxxxxxxxx).

    depakjan,
Tone it down, being abusi've is not going to help at all. Read the rules/guidelines board before posting again, and make sure you read the announcement pinned to the top of each board. This forum is intended for user interaction.
As far as the webcam goes, it was released long before the Operating System so the name is not related. Check which model cam you have and then check this knowledgebase article for information on which products have Vista drivers:
