Cant Iphoto in my restore

i have had to reload  applications and the such from a restpre due to the issue my hard drive got fried (and was waraantied) biot lost all my info.  i can see all of my info but my biggest thing i am missing is my pictures.  but i cant see if there are there because i cant open iphoto.  do i have to repurchase the program?

What system and iPhoto versions were preinstalled on your Mac when you got it?
If it was Lion or Mt. Lion then go to the App Store and log in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the Mac.  Look under purchases and select iPhoto to reinstall it.
If you're referring to your iMac and the system was Snow Leopard or earlier you can use the Software Restore disk that came with your Mac to do a custom install of iPhoto.  The disk will look something like one of these:

I just had to reformat the external hard drive that houses my iPhoto library, then restore it from a backup. Now Time Machine is telling me my backup hard drive suddenly does not have the space to complete a backup. I also noticed when I go in to Time Machine, there are only about 5 backups recorded on the ext. hard drive. There were many more before. Any idea what happened and if I have to buy a new back up hard drive?

    Hallo  Kieth ,
I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles, descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .
Thanks for your interest and advice.

    Hi beckiewinter!
I have some information for you that may help you understand your iPhone's Activation Lock more thoroughly:
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818
So in order to update your iPhone, you may need to turn off Find My iPhone. This can be done through the iCloud settings, and more information on those settings can be found right here:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • I was trying to sync my latest photos from iphone onto iphoto but pressed restore instead of sync. Now it's deleted my latest photos taken a week ago. Is there a way to get back those photos via backup somehow?

I was trying to sync my latest photos from iphone onto iphoto but pressed "restore" instead of "sync". Now it's erased my latest photos taken on my iphone a week ago and erased music saved in itunes library. Is there a way to find these photos and music via backup?

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • Problem downloading iPhoto after i restore my OS X

how come i can't seems to down load iPhoto after i restore my OS X

With no information to go on: wild guess:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • How do I get my new iphone restored with my old backup? my old iphone had ios5 and the replacement phone i got has ios4 and it wont let me backup my phone because it doesnt have ios4... i cant get ios5 without restoring my iphone and backing it uo

Basically, i need all my old stuff from my iphone 4 with ios5 onto my new iphone 4.  The new phone i received only had ios4. I went to get all my contacts and backup from my old phone onto my new phone and it wont let me because my new phone is only ios4 and my backup from my old phone was in ios5.  I cant get ios5 on my phone without creating a new backup of my new phone, which has nothing on it.  If i restore it as a new phone and backup virtually nothing from my new phone, will that get rid of all my old backup stuff from my old iphone?

Bottom line is you CANNOT restore to a phone from a backup that has a more recent iOS which is what you're trying to do.  Just can't be done.

    HELP!!!

    Hi ashraf_8900,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when you cannot open iTunes or sign in with your Apple ID. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend. I would first recommend that you completely uninstall iTunes and all of its related components in the correct order, however. Please use the attached article for information and instructions on removing iTunes from your computer. Once removed as described in the steps below, please install fresh and test. If the issue continues, please let me know.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
    Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
    Happy holidays,
    Joe

  • My photos disappear from my iPhoto after a crash of iPhoto, I've restored the entire iPhoto library through time machine but still i have no photos in my iPhoto

I have an iMac which I've upgraded to Yosemite. then I experienced a crash on iPhoto and needed to restore the entire (135 GB) iPhoto library through Time machine. Now I can see the iPhoto library through finder but can't move them to iphoto
Can you help me please? thanks so much!

Try the following on your library:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhoto Events has restored every photo I have ever deleted. How can I get rid of them?

I have been away from my Mac for 3 weeks and I log into iPhoto today to find that every Event has restored all my previously deleted photos - this means tens of thousands of photos in total and would take weeks to go though and delete again. Is there some way of deleting them? Thanks!

    Restore from your back up.

  • IPhoto Time Machine restore.

iMac went in to Apple store. Came out with a new HD and new install of Snow Leopard and iLife 08. When it went it originally it had an up to date, and what I thought was a slightly corrupted Leopard and iLife 08. Ok fine. SL, but no restore disks, why they did that I don't know.
So I fire up TM first thinking I want to do is restore at least iPhoto and iTunes. Took me a bit to realize that they created an initial account called admin. I created an account for me, same as I had it before when I had leopard and have the imac boot up into that account.
I fired up iPhoto go to Browse Backups, but I can't see any of my backups. After much fitzing about I do manage to recover a backup from about a month previous. It had to do with permissions between the backup and the current Snow Leopard.
I have TM backups going back months, but iPhoto does not see any of them.
TM itself shows the backups but I can not access any of them. I had to modify the permissions on the TM backups directly to recover things with TM.
Many of the folders had a tiny red ! on the corners of them relating to permissions.
So I start going through events and realize that I have the dreaded ! mark when clicking on a thumbnail. It is not all photos. I have an event with 20 photos, about 8 pics are there, but the rest are !. I did not modify any of the files in that event as I did not have time before the iMac started screwing up.
What do I do to recover backups I know are there and go back months?
And what was the point of having TM backups if I can not recover things easily after having apple techs in an apple store reinstall on a new HD?
    Thanks.

    Ok.
I must have done that but the problem is the apple store techs created an account called appletemp, and now appletemp is the only account that has RW permissions to the TM backups. The account I created for myself has no access to those backups. I have to manually add myself to the permissions on the Pictures folder. Is this the right way to handle that? How can I give myself permissions to my TM bacukps?
    Thanks.

  • Should I rebuild the iPhoto library or restore from backup?

When I start iPhoto I get this message:
"Your iPhoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your iPhoto library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
What do I do?  Which is best?
    Robert

If the restart did not solve it, rebuild the library, but make a backup (don't overwrite any backup, that you have).
See Terence Devlin's post on how to rebuild here:
Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable https://discussions.apple.com/message/16810380#16810380

  • IPhoto not completely restoring.

My wife turned the power off on the iMac while I was trying to delete several events from iPhoto. The library could then not be opened. I tried rebuild under the "option + command" menu when I tried to restart. Nothing worked. So, I resorted from a previous library using TM but it doesn't see that all the pictures come over. Some do but I mainly get event headings but no pictures. I've tried rebuild thumbnails using the "option + command" menu but it seems like only a few more show up. The original file that got corrupted when the wife turned off the power was about 80GB. The current on that comes over only comes over at around 18GB.
What am I doing wrong?  Can I just copy from TM to a flash drive and then try to restore from that copy?  Any suggestions are welcome. I am running Lion on a early 2009 iMac 20 inch.
    Thanks in advance.

How are you restoring?  The correct method is to launch Time Machine and go back to the time you want to restore from, select the iPhoto library and click restore
If you are having issues with TM post them in the TM forum
