Cant join to network at macbook air

cant join to network at macbook air

Until a few days ago mine worked fine. Now it only recognizes other networks (neighbours' and open ones) but not my own - it's disappeared! Even manually adding it again won't help. Its ios is up to date (Maverick).
Neither restarting the modem nor the MacBook have helped (as for other issues). In Applications->Utilities I've run the Airport - and Disk-utilities (repairing permissions). No progress here either! Retried various other settings .... same waste of time.
Strangely enough, the iPad and iPhone continue to work with my own without any problem.
What can be done?
Waiting for another ios update?
Other users with similar problems?

  • HT4628 WHY CANT I CONNECT MY NEW MACBOOK AIR TO MY WIFI NETWORK

Chose all different wifi network settings to connect to my wifi.
I was able to connect my PCs even my other apple computer.
But the new macbook air keeps saying "unable to connect".
    What do I do?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • In hotel w/wireless network.  ATV finds network, but does not ask me for password, so can't communicate through network.  MacBook Air, iPad and 2 iPhones connected to hotel wireless, but ATV does not ask me for the password.  Any ideas?

I have succesfully connected a MacBook Air, an iPad and two iPhones to the wireless network in this hotel.  Apple TV can see the network and "connects" to the network, but w/o asking for password.  I expected to see a screen immediately after selecting the network that asked me for the password as did all of my other devices.  ATV did not ask me for a password.  When I go to Settings>General>Network, it shows the name of the hotel wireless network, but I can't communicate with the network.  It can't set date and time.  When I try to enter my Apple account name and password, it tells me it can't log in w/o setting date and time.
Any ideas on how to connect to this network?

I am having the same problem. In my hotel when I connect my laptop a screen will pop up and you have to hit the button "I Accept Terms". However I can't do that with the ATV. I called the internet provider and they said they could not help me. Any ideas? Do you think the guy just doesn't know what he can do for me? I am thinking I will call later and hope to get a different technician who might know how to help connect me.

    Try resetting your NVRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Potential fix for slow/unreliable network on Macbook Air running Mavericks

    Hi all,
I work in IT support at University of Manchester, UK and have found a fix for for network issues we were experiencing with Macbook Air laptops running Mavericks. These Airs were having issues connecting to our WiFi and experiencing slow downloads, even when switched over to UBS LAN adaptors.
Anyhow, after trawling these forums without success I stumbled upon this solution myself so thought I'd share:
Basically, if you are experiencing speed/connection issues go into the 'Advanced' network settings and change the IPv6 setting from 'Automatic' to 'Link Local' and then reboot. Hopefully, after doing this you should find your speed levels return to expected levels!
    Hope it works for you.
    Cheers.

  • Network speed: MacBook Air and Belkin N1 vision

    Hi all,
I have a MacBook Air wireless connected to a Belkin N1 vision which has an Gigabit ethernet connection to a Maxtor Shared Storage II device. From my MacBook Network Utility, I can see my connection is only 130 MBits/second. I'm expecting to see 802.11n speeds but don't seem to be getting them.
    Anyone know why?

Apple's notebooks only seem to support the fastest speeds when used with an 802.11n router that supports wide-band at 5GHz. I tried the Belkin N1 Vision and D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 before I realized this. With both of those routers, my MacBook Pro could only connect at 130Mbps.
Most 3rd party 802.11n routers only support 2.4GHz. Some routers are dual band and support 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but I haven't found one that supports wide-band at 5GHz.
Now I'm using the Airport Extreme Gigabit Base Station, which supports wide-band at 5GHz, and my MacBook Pro connects at 300Mbps. My MacBook Air only seems to connect at 270Mbps for some reason though. Although it's still impossible to transfer data at 300Mbps, I've seen speeds as high as 12MB/s when within 10 feet or so of router, which is about the speed of 100 Base-T Ethernet. I was only able to achieve about half of that with the other routers I've tried.

  • WiFi and other networking problems (MacBook Air)

Like many others on these forums, I’m having terrible problems with network connections on my MacBook Air 11-inch (Mid 2011, running Lion 10.7.3).
WiFi connections are very unreliable, and often impossible to establish.
On my home network I can ‘force’ the MBAir to connect by manually configuring TCP/IP, and DNS settings. I shouldn’t have to do this.
I do not have (and have never had) problems establishing WiFi connections on all the other Macs that are used on our home network (iMac, and MacBook running SnowLeopard, and an old PowerMac that runs Tiger; I also occasionally use my University MacBookPro (10.6.7) without any problems. So this issue is clearly not network related.
If I take the MBAir out on the road (which is why I bought it) then I invariably struggle and usually fail to establish a WiFi connection, even in my University, where the WiFi network functions with my MacBookPro.
My problems with the MBAir are not however confined to WiFi.
Networking with an Ethernet-USB link is equally unreliable. Occasionally the MBAir appears on network but then fails to connect to any servers. Even when it does appear to connect the network, I’m unable to connect/share the MBAir from any other of my Macs. Ethernet cable and network communications are all trouble-free with my University iMac and MacBookPro.
I’m really disappointed with my MacBook Air what’s going on Apple?!
I’ve tried deleting the usual system preference files (com.apple.airport.- , -.network, etc.) but not much has changed. Now at a loss at what to try next .... advice welcomed.

Whatever was causing my endless problems has been resolved. I was very close to returning my new MacBookAir, as nothing would work with respect to networking; WiFi or Ethernet-USB.
As a last resort I reinstalled Lion using the cmd-R - and yipee all networking problems have disappeared.
The MBAir now works just fine, I can chop and change WiFi connections when roaming without problems, and my ethernet-USB connection allows me to interact with my University network.
    My solution - reinstall Lion!

  • How do I network my MacBook Air to a PC to utilize the PC's LAN connection?

Want to connect MacBook Air (10.8) to a PC over the PC's USB port.

  • Cant join a network

ipad at setup cant joing ANY NETWORK. I just want to skip this setup process..that is it.. I can configure wireless access later at my home

Try activating it by plugging it into a PC or Mac directly if you have one.

  • Cant join existing network as a client.

I have just bought an AE to use as a client with iinet's BoB wifi router, but during setup (connect to existing network) I get 'unexpected error has occurred'
Please help, I was under the impression AE would join 3rd party networks.

The AirPort Express will join a third party network if 3 conditions are met:
    1)  The AX is configured to use the same wireless network name
    2)  The AX is provided with the correct wireless password
    3)  The AX is configured to use the exact same wireless security settings that the wireless network is using
Most users get 1) and 2) correct, but are not sure about the exact type of wireless security that their router is using, so the AX often does not receive the correct configuration information to connect to the network.

  • Wi-fi access i can see the modem, but i cant join the network

I have upgraded my iPhone 4  and my wife's 3gs. Now neither one will access my wi-fi network. anyone else had this problem? FYI: i have gone through all the trouble shooting tiups at apple support. still no go.

I don't know what troubleshooting tips you tried, but one of the standard ones is to unplug the power to the model or router, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.  It's basically a reboot of the device.

  • Cant find messages app on macbook air.

I have version "Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5" and want to iMessage with it. I've looked in applications and spotlight search for message app and nothing has come up. Please help!

It's called iChat in 10.7 and previous - unfortunately your version will not do iMessaging (texting) with iOS devices - you would need to upgrade to 10.8 or 10.9 for that. iChat will do regular computer-to-computer chat using a Gmail, AOL, or Yahoo address, though.
