Cant Load personal edition 8.1.5 on Windows ME

Is there a way out to install Oracle personal edition 8.1.5 on Windows ME. Is it true one can't install personal edition on Win ME. If any one had sucess, I would be glad to hear how. Thanks
Adiseshu

Oracle doesn't support Windows ME at the moment.
If you visit some of the Oracle newsgroups, there are folks that have figured out how to install Oracle on a Windows ME box. This would be an unsupported configuration, however.

  • Cannot install Oracle 8i (Personal Edition) 8.1.7 on Windows 98 (Second Edition)

    Hello,
I am unable to install Oracle 8i Personal Edition on my Windows 98 (Second Edition) system. I have selected "typical" install. All the files get installed (100% complete) but then the Configuration Tool install phase fails to complete when installing Oracle Database Configuration Assistant. I get the following error message :
    java.lang.NullpointerException
    at DropOracle.QueryDB(Compiled Code)
    at DeletePanel.InitControls(Compiled Code)
    at DeletePanel.<init>(DeletePanel.java:100)
    at DBCreateWizard.<init>(DBCReateWizard.java:569)
    at DBCreateWizard.main(DBCreateWizard.java:1422)
The system just hangs with the "in progress" message.
    The previous step -
The Net8 Configuration Assistant install completes successfully
    (return code 0).
If anyone can help me resolve my problem it will be greatly appreciated.
Or if you could tell me which Oracle email address (or phone number) I should address my problem to it will be appreciated. I do NOT have a Oracle Support Licence (I only purchased the evaluation CD pack).
I have installed Java 2 (JDK 1.3) in a separate directory - but I understand Oracle 8i has its own version of JRE 1.1... in its own subdirectory structure ... so my JDK 1.3 should not be interfering with the Oracle 8i installation programs.
    Many thanks in advance.

What is your RAM? I ran into the same problem, even though I had more RAM then required. I had to shutdown everything, make a very basic wallpaper that did not put too much strain on the system, then it installed.
Unistall Oracle, remove all the remaining files and the directory by hand. Also you have to remove any trace of Oracle in your regedit. Check if path to Oracle is still in autoexec.bat; if it is delete it - the Oracle path not the file. Reboot and then do Alt-Ctr-Del and turn off all the unecessary programs and try installing it again.
    Hope it works.

  • Installing 8i Personal Edition

I am installing Oracle 8i Personal Edition
on windows 98 and I ran into a problem.
I couldn't install the Database Configuration Asistant. The log reads:
Documents\Downloads\Oracle8i\starterdb is an invalid command line argument
So it is looking in Documents instead of MyDocuments. How do I tell it to look in MyDocuments?

The problem is that Personal 8i isn4t compatible with Windows ME. But don4t worry. There4s a solution. Before you install it, modify the WIN.INI file, in the section [Compatibility95], adding Jrew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and try to install it again. Good luck.

Does the Oracle Home need to be installed on the same drive that the OS directory is located on (C:\)? What am I doing wrong? Are there any pre-installation steps?

  • Oracle8i Personal Edition

    Hi Everyone!
I purchased the Oracle 8i CD Pack (Release3), which comes with 8i PE. The installation goes very well. However, when I try to setup the Network Configuration, it doesn't find anything! Even if I create the listner, etc. I recently noticed that the CD says NT/2000 on it, nothing about Windows 98. However, as I mentioned above, the installation works. Could it be that I have the wrong version and that is why the network part does not work? I have read all the problems people are having with the Win98 download version[\b], so I don't know if I want to go that route. Seems easier to install NT or 2000. Has anyone gotten their 98 PE to work yet? If so, how?

Afaik, personal edition was/is only for Windows plateform.
    Nicolas.
    Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
Choose "...by Product", "Database...", "...Personal Edition", then you will see that is only Windows OS for which this edition was/is certified.

  • Installing Oracle 9i Release 2 Personal Edition

I am trying to install Oracle 9I Release 2 Personal Edition on my home computer (Windows XP). I get to the Database Configuration screen, it processes up to Authentication and Encryption - 93%, then I get an Error - The following running services need to be shutdown before continuing: OracleMTSRecoveryService. I have attempted several times to shut it down, to no avail.
Can anyone give me suggestions on what to do?

    XP Professional, or XP Home?
There are a lot of cases where people have tried and failed to install on XP Home. Also a few successes.
Also, how is your firewall and anti-virus software configured. Those may be blocking your install process.

  • Personal Edition on Linux?

Can anyone explain why one can license Oracle Database (any version) Personal Edition on Windows Server but not on Linux? Both OSs are designed to support multiple users, are they not?
    Ref: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABDJGGI

So Oracle database Personal Edition does have meaning on Windows Server context but not on Linux Enterprise?
Many organizations I know use Red Hat Enterprise Server, or SuSE Enterprise Linux in ''dedicates user' mode. Not to mention those developers and consultants who want a supported environment for Oracle EE and *nix and have an enterprise Linux machine.
Running a single person consulting shop, I find the combination of RHES and Oracle PE totalling USD$650-700 for supported development is a lot easier to swallow than needing to go to a Oracle EE license for an added $50,000. (Too bad SE or XE do not support options like SPatial.)
Right now, the ONLY reason I have any Windows machine left in my shop is for Oracle PE.

  • Burning and installing 8i Personal Edition after download

    Hello,
I downloaded the Orcale DB 8i Personal Edition (nt817personal.zip) for WinNT/2000/XP.
I extracted the zip file and burned the contents on a CD ROM. During the burn software file scan, I got a message saying that the directory depth exceeds the ISO limt (8), and it could cause problems reading it on old operating systems. Since I intended to install it on Win2000, I chose to continue.
When I tried to install from the CD, the installaion stopped with no error during "analyzing dependencies" stage.
I copied all the files from the CD to the HD and tried again, but encountered the same problem.
Only after I downloaded the original file again, extracted it localy and installed from the HD did the installation go through.
I would like to have a CD copy of the installation file, what should I do ? should I burn the zipped file and extract it locally each time I need to install ?
BTW - I used EZ CD Creator to burn the CD.
    Thanks,
    Flash

  • Receiving error when trying to install Oracle 8i Personal Edition

I'm trying to install 8i personal edition, and the installer is attempting to use this file as the stage file: D:\stage\products.jar. I can only assume its corrupt. Can anyone help me?
    Steve

The error message I get on the install is, "INVALID STAGING AREA. NO TOP LEVEL COMPONENTS FOR WINDOWS 95 AVAILABLE FOR INSTALL." The install is using C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\INSTALL\STAGE\ PRODUCTS.JAR, which is where the UNZIP placed the components. The 8i Personal Edition I downloaded was for Windows 98, so I don't understand why it's looking for Windows 95 components. Also, I have Windows ME, not Windows 98, but I assume this download should work for Windows ME?

  • Can't install Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition on Windows ME

I am trying to install "Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition for Windows 98" on Windows ME. I can't install it. During the install on the Oracle Universal Intaller, on the part where it asks for the Source and Destination, after I click "Next" to install, it gives me a error message: "Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Windows 95 available for install from this staging area". So I can't proceed with the installation.
    The computer I am using is a Pentium 3, 700mhz, 128mb Ram.
On my other computer, it is a Dell Dimension Pentium 4, 1.3 GHz, 128mb ram. When I attempt to install it, while running the D:\setup.exe, before it even loads the install program, it gives me the error message: "Jrew has caused an error in JAVAI.DLL. Jrew will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer". Restarting my computer does not solve the problem.
Can anyone help me out, I really would appreciate it. Thank you.

There is supposedly a fix for this 'stage error' but I tried one of them and it doesn't work. What i have found is that you either create a dual boot Win ME/(98 or 2000 pro) or dump ME as I did and run 98 or 2000 instead. It is painful but unfortunately, seeming necessary. I made it a bit less painful by using Symantec Works to back up all of my other loaded APPS (and Registry entries) Most reloaded to 98 even though they were running in ME.
    Good luck.

I try to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7) Personal Edition on my
Windows Millenium laptop (PIII, 256MB, 30GB). When running
universal installer, after first initial screen when installer
has loaded G:\stage\products.jar (G drive is my CD drive), I got
the following message (I translated from french, so english text
may be a little bit different):
Invalid intermediate area. No top level component
for Wondows 95 is available to install from this
    intermediate area.
    The original french message is:
Zone intermidiaire non valide. Aucun composant de

I don't know what to do to correct this problem ! I searched
thru provided documentation without finding anything about this
problem. Note that the message talk about Windows 95 but my

Not only the Oracle Personal Edition but even the Oracle Client
can not be installed on WinMe. I suspect this may be because the
JVM matter. You can try to install JRE1.3.1 and see if it works.
Remember to add in path and Classpath in Autoexec.bat.

  • Snow leopard 10.6.8 wifi connected, cant load webpages

    hi!
just yesterday my computer showed this problem with the internet. as the title says, it is connected to the wifi network (as it has always been) but i face the following problems:
i cant load new webpaged in google chrome and firefox (which are the ones that I actually use)
i can load webpsged that were already saved as bookmarks.
i can load webpages in safari
my icon for dropbox shows a red cross icon
    utorrent works just fine
outlook (the software) get's my new emails
what i tried to solve it:
checked that my wifi networks work perfectly fine with other devices in the house
    restart computer
changed DNS to one that was suggested in another thread in this discussions site
    resetting NVRAM/PRAM
    checked that it is updated
so, i read that some people had similar problems with the new 10.8.2 for mountain lion, or sth like that... but in my case i have snow leopard so i don't think thst's the problem

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Can't  loging to Designer Product in Oracle 8i Personal Edition

    HI YOU!
    Can you help me?
I have problems starting Oracle Designer 6.x in my pc Windows 98 and Personal Edition 8i.
I'm not in a LAN and I don't have the client installed.
I don't know the user systems for Designer, I prooved with the SYSTEM anad SYS user but I cant access to the product.
    Any idea?
    Do I requiere the client?.
    THANKS!
    DAVE.

I think you have to start again with your installation.
A few months ago, I installed Designer 6i r4.3 on my standalone Home Pc.
Installing Designer 6i r4.3 on you PC, with a local database, you need to do the following. I think it isn't difficult, but yu have to read the installation guides of these product carefully before installing!
Installing consist of the following main steps
    1. Install a certified database server, i.e. 8.1.7 or 9i. (And NOT personal 8i! You can download a copy from OTN).
    2. Install the Designer client in a DIFFERENT Oracle Home than the server
    3. Install the Designer Server on the Database server
    4. Install Developer
Do you have a PC with enough power? I need enough diskspace and memory (at least 256 MB, but 512 is much better!)
