Cant Login to my Account or access files

A little while ago, finder wasn't opening on my machine - I opened up activity monitor to see that finder was highlighted in red and wasn't responding. I used the force quit option to shut it down (silly mistake I think). Doing this, I realised that all the icons on the desktop were gone and when I opened finder, it wasn't showing anything at all so I rebooted the machine.
Now the system is not letting me log in and says that the username cannot be logged in at this time because of an error. I've since, tried safe mode, many restarts, eventually i even created a new admin account (instructions off one of the mac related forums - used the following command on command prompt "rm /var/db/applesetupdone"). Even using this account, I can't access the files on my original account as they are locked.
Can someone please help guide me as to what I can do in order to fix my original account (I'll be doomed if I don't get access back) - Desperately in need of help.

  • Cant login multiple network accounts on the same client?

    Setup:
I have created a simple Lion Server on a new i7 Mac Mini. I have configured Open Directory in Master mode and have setup 4 user accounts. I have enabled the File Sharing service and checked the "Make available for home directories" option on the "Users" file share. I have configured each of the 4 user accounts to use this location as the home folder. I have connected my client machines (all OSX Lion) to the Network Account Server.
    Problem:
I can log one user into the client machine, but when using "Fast User Switching" and logging on as the second user I get the following error:
"You are unable to log in to the user account "guestaccount" at this time. Loggin to the account failed because an error occured"
In the console if I search for that user account the related error message is:
    11-07-31 12:30:54.993 PM authorizationhost: ERROR | -[HomeDirMounter mountNetworkHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] | PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication( url=afp://inntaserver01.local/Users, homedir=/Network/Servers/inntaserver01.local/Users/guestaccount, name=guestaccount ) returned 16
Any thoughts as to why the Home Folder "mounter" failed in this scenario?

Historically you have never been allowed to use Fast User Switching to log in multiple network logins on the same client machine. This certainly applied with Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. I have not yet personally tried this with Lion.
I believe that the underlying reason for this not being allowed is down to how AFP volumes are mounted. The AFP mount becomes 'owned' by the user that triggers the login. With a network login the first user becomes the owner and this means subsequent attempted network logins are denied access to that share and hence cannot access their home directories.
With Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard servers, one could configure network home directories to be shared via NFS instead of AFP. NFS gets treated a lot different in terms of mounting, and is done more at a system level than a user level. While again I have not personally tried Fast User Switching with NFS shared home directories, this approach is specifically recommended by the authors of AquaConnect (a Macintosh Terminal Server solution) in order to allow multiple logins on the same Terminal Server. This seems to be for the same underlying reason. Using NFS does certainly work for use with AquaConnect and also works for the competing iRAPP Terminal Server product as well.
Unfortunately, Lion Server while it can be made to run an NFS server, will not let you configure using NFS for sharing home directories. I have actually reported this as a 'bug' in Lion server.
Neither the authors of AquaConnect or iRAPP have actually tested this scenario with Lion server yet, but AquaConnect do plan to investigate it. It could make it considerably more difficult to use their products.
So in summary, using NFS to share network home directories in theory would avoid the problem and can be done with a Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard server, but cannot be done with a Lion server. It is possible however to mix Lion with older server versions. This might for some people be a possible workaround.
PS. A bonus side-effect of using NFS shared home directories was that this allowed badly written software like Adobe's applications which are otherwise notorious for having major issues with network logins and home directories to work without errors. As an example Adobe Acrobat Pro introduced a bug in version 7.0 which prevented it being able to print-to-PDF (one of the major reasons to buy Acrobat Pro). It tooks two years for them to eventually fix this in Acrobat Pro 8.1 (I know because I spent that two years nagging them to fix it and was a beta tester). Unfortunately they then reintroduced the bug in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Fortunately I discovered this side-effect got round the issue although a clunkier workaround was also possible for Snow Leopard clients by redirecting certain folder paths.

    Then you either need to:
    1) Sign up for Creative Cloud so you can build a Single Edition app. Be warned though: this approach will no longer be valid as of May 1st when we retire support for Single Edition in Creative Cloud, and Single Edition apps are only on iPad devices.
    2) Sign up for a full DPS license. You can request pricing information by filling in Adobe | Request for consultation.

  • I need to "reboot" my iMac. Cant log in, profile account file(s) problably missing

I was deleting some applications etc. on my iMac when the screen suddenly toned down
and a message said that i had to restart the computer (by holding the power-button).
    After that I cant log onto my account. This message pops up;
"You are unable to log in to the FileVault user account "daniel" at this time.
Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred"
So I guess that I must have managed to delete some file that belonged to the "daniel profile".
This is mainly a problem since this is the only account on the computer with no Guest-
account activated either. Since their is no option to create a new account at the start-up
dashboard... well.. you see my problem.
So what I have done so far is to try a Safe Boot. The support page here on this site said
that this will include a automatic disc check and repair.. However Im not sure if that
worked at all because i still had to (try) to log onto the Daniel profile which didnt work.
And no difference was made after restarting again.
I have no Mac OS X Install Disc avaliable at the moment, hopefully its still around somewhere.
Since i didnt live where I live now when i got the iMac its problably in my former home
(parents).. Not an option right at this very moment.
So instead i am now moving on to the Single User Mode and Fsck. I write the
whole /sbin/fsck -fy and i do get a FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED message (one time),
even goes for some more rounds just in case.
I reboot but the problem is still there.
So instead i tried to create another user through the Fsck with
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
Which take me to the initial set-up screen however i can now not pass the
screen where you choose language (i click a language and the screen goes black
for a sec and then it turns back to the language screen again)
So i do "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone" and is now back to where i started..
Im thinking that maybe deleting the user ("rm - R /users/username") would
be something that might work.. but then again i dont know..
Also im starting to think that some of the problem is in that i changed the account username
it says "Namn" at the login screen but as i wrote "Namn" cant be find in the system,
but the old one "(Daniel") does.
... Any ideas? Is there anything I can do? Will the CD work? If i dont find the CD can i get another one?
Does your average computer store has knowledge about things like these?

Apple Store should be able to help, I doubt just any computer store will know how.
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

If account was renamed that won't be good at all.
    Do you have a Backup?

Cant login to itunes anymore with any of my iphones.  I have 3.  Now I get an error with the following for any phone I try: Apple ID does not have permission to access iTunes Connect. I have 2 separate Apple Id Accounts for each phone, both get the same error.

  • Cant see the option to login as microsoft account on system after windows 8 was refreshed with 8.1

My system came with Windows8 installation. And I created my windows account on this.
Later it prompted for 8.1 update and I went with that.
After 8.1 got installed, I also created my local account.
I logged in as local account (also admin account) and then logged out. first issue came as system errored out once I tried to login as microsoft account now. I dont know why.. It was not wrong password error. It just said error logging into microsoft account
Now I do not see an option to login as microsoft account. PLease note, I do not even see this listed in user accounts.
There are other issues too, like for every folder, I need to specifically provide admin access even if I am logged in as local administrator account. But I am fine with these issues.Obviously, they irritate :).
But I would like to resolve the microsoft account issue first.. HOw do I get it back ..

    Hi,
Please check your Microsoft Account status in User Account Manager:Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts
In addition, please access to the path of registry to check your Microsoft Account if it locate there.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
If problem persists, the workaround method may be need you delete and readd your Microsoft Account on your computer.

  • Can't login to local NON-admin accounts-Directory Access set to server

I have a strange problem on a set of laptops that I cannot resolve and am hoping someone can help me.
    Here is the issue:
I have a set of building laptops (PowerPC, OSX.4.11) that seemingly will not "search locally" in the authentication process. The logins seem to work fine for NETWORK logins to our Open Directory Master xserve, but these machines will not login to any LOCAL non-admin accounts. The local root and local admin account logins do, however, work fine. ?? The remainder of the building computers (Intel iMacs OSX.4.11) appear to have the exact same settings and login fine both locally and via the network home directories.
    I have tried the following:
    Deleted DirectoryService preferences folder (MacintoshHD-->Library-->Preferences->DirectoryService)
Deleted the mcx cache in Directory Access
Tried adding a new non-admin user to test (still will not login)
Removed and re-created LDAP configuration (all set to custom)
Tried setting the LDAP to the automatic settings ("Add DHCP-supplied LDAP servers to automatic search policies")
Disabled all network connectivity (turned off Airport and disconnected the ethernet cable), still cannot login to local accounts
Tried to bind in LDAP configuration (when I did bind the machine, it would no longer authenticate to the network authentication server, so I did an "unbind" and restarted and it went back to performing the network logins, but still will not login to local non-admin accounts).
Reset passwords in System Prefs and also re-typed them in NetInfo Manager
    Deleted login keychains
    Deleted mcx.plist
Reinstalled the OS from disk and local logins worked TEMPORARILY--UNTIL I set the LDAP directory access to authenticate to our server (which I also need for the network logins to work),then, the issue started again.
*Same results with both ethernet and wireless connectivity enabled.
*Note: I also manage these local accounts via WGM (installed on the local machine) and even tried disabling that and still no luck.
Please help...I have spent hours and hours trying to find a solution and nothing seems to work! What am I missing??

    Mostly just a bump...
How about that .local extension, or trailing / ?

  • Cant access files..?

Hi! Okay I have been through so many of these and tried all of them. None have worked.
Basically I havent been able to log into my main account. It starts to log in, goes to a blue screen then back to the log in page. I tried to solve this issue but failed. All Im worried about are my files, photo's and documents etc. (I was stupid and didnt back any of it up, regretting that now!). So someone suggested making a new account and trying to move the files to that account.... I made a new admin, I have found the files but isssue here is they are blocked. I havent given permission for other accounts to access them.
Now Im completly lost at what to do. Any suggestions would be fantastic. Thank in advance!

Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.
Please let us know if the above worked.

  • My wife has a separate User Login. How can she access photos and documents on my User Account?

What do I need to do under my wife's user login so she can have access to photos and documents on my user account?

Move the data you want to share to the hard drive level Users/Shared folder and she will be able to access them. You may have to do a Get Info (command - I) on the folder and add her with read/write permissions, then select the gear at the bottom and Apply to enclosed items.

  • I have two creative cloud accounts one for work and one is my personal, can I access files and settings from both on one computer?

Basically I have had my creative cloud account for over a year and recently at work they just set me up with one. Can I keep both active on the same computer? My home laptop is sometimes used to do work so I would like to access files on either cloud drive as well as share program settings.
    Thanks in advance!

This is essentially my question as well - I have a personal CC account and I would like to use my personal libraries on my work computer.
Since that involves signing in to CC on my work computer, I am wondering if that will mess up my employer's CC license on my computer (or in general)
Anyone at Adobe have an opinion on this question?
