There is nothing to overcome, your mac is too old to run Mountain Lion.  For an iMac it must be a (Mid 2007 or newer)  http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/

I nee an easy way to resolve this with Apple.

why is it this problematic to resolve?! obviously there's a valid installer image for our macs, why can we not have access to it to use on our laptops?
I do not understand, nor accept the explanation given before - about it being a newer model... it doesn't make sense... how does that translate to "no download available".
also, if it was a valid point - we would have had that download with the release of 10.9.1 - which we don't.

Installing the appropriate combo update may help...
If you are running v10..7 Lion, install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
For 10.6 Snow Leopard >  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then restart your Mac. Try the App Store.
If that doesn't help, try the following..
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading Mountain Lion.
You may also need to disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall

  • I tried to download Mavericks overnight and it never finished.  When I tried to download again I got this message "We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed." Help?

I tried to re-download Mavericks after an apparent failed attempt and now I get the message "We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed."
    Can anybody help?

Several causes for this problem have been reported. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when it's resolved.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.
    Step 2
Rebuild the Spotlight index. If you try to search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, there will be an indication that indexing is in progress.
    Step 3
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.

I originally purchased Aperture 3 for my MacBook Air via the App Store. There is now an update available to version 3.2.2.
When I follow the download process to update I get the message:
We could not complete your purchase.
The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
There are other discussions advising deleting the App Store then downloading the Snow Leopard 10.6.6 combo update to resolve this problem but my MBA is running Lion 10.7.x (as supplied, not upgraded).
    I have two questions:
    1. If I try to delete the App Store (by dragging it to the Trash) I get a message telling me is cannot be modified or deleted as it is part of the OS. So how would I proceed if downloading the 10.6.6 update is necessary?
    2. Is it OK to download and install an update for an earlier version of OSX as I would be doing if I followed the suggested resolution?
From browsing the support discussions this seems to be a common problem for OSX 10.7 Lion users. I would expect a resolution via Software Update but all Software Updates are up to date on my MBA.

    Donald...
So how would I proceed if downloading the 10.6.6 update is necessary?
That won't work since you are running v10.7
Is it OK to download and install an update for an earlier version of OSX as I would be doing if I followed the suggested resolution?
    No.
Since you are running Lion you can use Lion Recovery to reinstall the App Store app.

  • We could not complete your purchase - Unknown Error

When trying to update my apps, I get this error message:
We could not complete your purchase Unknown Error.
I've been getting this error for a week straight now.
I uninstalled some of the apps thinking that something was just corrupt, and now I cannot reinstall them (or buy any other app for that matter).
The authors of the apps no longer offer downloads from their individual sites so I'm in trouble here. I have to work tomorrow and I have lost the entire night trying to fix this. I have tried everything mentioned on this forum (signed out, reset safari, cleared the app store cache folder) and now I can't even sign out of the App Store. I click the "Welcome (myname)" and "Account" links and nothing happens.
I even tried restoring the system, but the last step said something like "you cannot update mac osx lion server, you must erase the hard drive first." But I didn't know I had OSX Lion Server. I just bought the Server app awhile back thinking it would let me deploy a MAMP development environment and then deleted it because it was a joke of an app.
So am I screwed or just missing something here?

Many Thanks for the info zkc75 it worked for me.
This if for those who dont know how to delete /folders from /var directory.
On Finder select Go, then Go to Folder type /Var, hit enter. You will now get to see all folders under /var.
Delete all the folders under folder.
    Thanks,
    Narayan

    Step 1
If possible, test on another network, such as a public hotspot (if the computer is portable) or the hotspot created by a mobile device. A network gateway that blocks some traffic, most likely on a company or university network, could be causing the error.

    Back up all data.

Update: i spoke to a very knowledgeable applecare representitive who walked me thrue the process, we were trying to figure out what exactly was preventing Mountain Lion from installing & (after a process of elimination) it turns out you need to be log in as an Admin to download it, we also made sure everything was up-to-date. Downloading Mountain Lion took about 40 minutes (with roadrunner high speed internet, DSL might be a bit slower) once it was downloaded the installation process was very intuititive with just a few clicks and about 35 minutes i had the latest Operating System.

  • Install Xcode: We could not complete your purchase. Unknown Error.

After I upgrade the system to Mavericks, I remove the Xcode.
Then when I use the terminal, the system prompt saying whether to Get Xcode or Get Command Line Tools or something like that. (because I am using git)
Now I want to install the new version of Xcode, but MAS says: "We could not complete your purchase. Unknown Error."
I've tried all solutions out there can be found, like:
    1. sign out/back the account
    2. remove app store cookies
    3. delete the app store cache
    4. delete the /var/folders
    Nothing works.
I doubt it has something to do with the already working Command Line Tools. But I cannot find this can uninstall it since it is installed alone without Xcode.
    Please help.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • HT1338 Problem! What to do if my mac prompts this message on App Store? "we could not complete your purchase: unknown error"

Guys I'm facing a problem related to App Store. I managed to update my system to Version 10.7.4 to try to sort out the issue but again I cannot update/buy any apps, OS X ML included.
The message is: "we could not complete your purchase: unknown error"
I tried erasing the cache of App Store, log off and in, restart the system...nothing!
Can Anybody help me, please? I'm a Mac user less than a year but I never had serious issues before.
    Thanks

I can purchase other apps, why not Mountain Lion.   I get the same message on my wife's IMAC.

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down.  Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
    Hope it helps.
