Cant Mount Drive

HI I hope you can help,
I have for many months ran my TC (Time Capsule) without any problems, i have extended my network from the TC with 2 other Airports just for airtunes.
then recently i can not connect my mac mini to my TC.
Set up:
Mac Mini connected to TC via Cable all working fine for internet and use of printer.
Mac running 10.4.11
Problem
View: Finder: in finder select network, then select the TC asks me to confirm password, the a new window with select which volumes to mount TC displayed in list Click OK , then just spinning wheel for ever, the longest i have left this is 11 days nothing, the is disk noise from TC at the start of the attempt, TC can still be accessed by other machines.
any suggestions would be welcome

Hi j1s,
On this noise, can ou explain further?
So, other machines can access those volumes?
Have you tried making a new User to see if they have the same problem on tha Mac?
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

  • Cant mount ntfs drive in os x 10.8.4

I've tried with several drives and bought software but still cant mount a pc hdd.
    Needed strongly to work.

NTFS is a windows format, not Mac.  You will have to reformat it to ExFat on a PC or use software such as this:

    Ciao.
Note that these are recommendations for use as an external HDD.

  • Cant mount /dev/sda2 /mnt

    hello,everybody
        I'm a beginner
I want to install ArchLinux in my Dell notebook ,the sda1 had installed window xp,i want to make a dual system .
I burn a Arch Linux ISO cd and enter the live system, then the questions are coming....
After partitioning the drive by cfdisk tool,i cant mount the sda2 on the /mnt
the error code list this :
SQUASHFS error: Cant find  a SQUASHFS superblock on sda2
            EXT4-fs(sda2)     : cant find ext4 filesystem
What's meaning ? I have partition the drive like this .Please other Linuxer help me  or tell me how to solve this problem
                               cfdisk
    name    flags    partType    fsType    size(MB)
    sda1                  Primary     ntfs         30000
    sda2     Boot      Primary     Linux       100
    sda3                   Primary     Linux       10000
    sda5                   Logical    Linux swap  2000
    sda6                   Logical      Linux        70000

After you partitioned the drive, did you put filesystems on the partitions? Follow the steps in the Beginners' Guide, and use mkfs to put filesystems on the partitions. If sda2 is your boot partition, it's not the partition you want to mount at /mnt (you should mount your root partition there). Read the Guide.

  • How to remove a mounted drive at startup in a mobile account, using netinfo

How does one remove an mounted drive at startup in a mobile account, using netinfo?
One of the user automatically mounts a network drive on her new intel Macbook in her portable account. Trouble is that the network drive is only available on the intranet. So when she is on the road, it take the Macbook very long 3-4 minutes before it let's her log in.
Simply I thought to remove the drive on her macbook through the system preferences -> account -> login items. However the "login Item" GUI is very slow to respond and if it respond it does not let me remove the network drive. I tried this both on the intranet and off the network.
I tried to remove the mounted drive at start up through the workgroup manager, but it does not show up there.
So I thought that I try to use netinfo on the local machine. But I can't find where mounting info is stored in a mobile account. I thought it would be in the local @ localhost or should I connect to an other DB?

The login items are not stored in Netinfo, they are stored in loginwindow.plist in the users Library/Preferences. You can either remove the entries for the server or simply trash that file and let a default one get recreated.

  • Question: Best method for mounting drives at log-in time?

I would like to know what others consider the best method for mounting drives at log-in time is? I can see a few methods such as start-up items on the client, start-up items on the server to managed users and possibly a start-up script. One wrinkle in the scenario is that users can log-in directly to the server so the method should allow that to happen gracefully. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Bigsky,
You are asking some really fundamental questions that require quite a lot of explanation. Luckily Apple has some great documentation on their server software.
You will be able to find your answers here by diggin in a bit:

  • Mounting drives on the desktop for all users

    Hi
Is there a way of mounting drives ( like USB pens) on the desktop for all users please?
It's a causing a lot of confusion here... you think the USB drives aren't working when you can't see them being mounted in front of you.
I do realise you can set this in Finder/Preferences but I wondered if there were a way of just making it the default for any user that logs in ( whether locally or to the domain).
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Thanks for your help Barney.
Hmmmm....why would anyone disable this basic thing?
Here's a reason. I don't use the Desktop, so why would I want the drives to pop up on my desktop.
They appear in my Sidebar in any Finder window.
That's why I turned it off on my system. You'd have to ask the 1000 users why they turned it off.
However, I'm not sure I understand what you want. If you mount a usb drive on your system, and share it out over the network, it is not a Hard Drive on any network user's desktop. It is a network share.

  • Using mounted drives for storage

iMovie 08 only allows for saving on internal drives, or connected FireWire drives. Well, I have 2 TB of storage on an old Mac connected over Gigabit Ethernet, and I intend to use it. Here is the solution:
    1. Move your iMovie Events onto your choice of mounted drive
    2. Delete the iMovie Events folder, located in your Movies folder
    3. Use Coctail or the Terminal to create a symbolic link of the moved iMovie Events folder (on your external drive) and place that link back in your home Movies folder
    4. Start up iMovie again, and you will see that all is well
Using regular Alias did not work for me. I got the thumbnails, though with a warning triangle, but not the source to play.

no, I use FAT32 so I can use it on both Macs and PCs
Note that the Mac doesn't require using the same disk format on both "disks" of a partitioned drive. You could use Disk Utility to partition the drive and format each partition whatever you choose.
Partitioning/Reformatting will erase everything on the drive, so make backups.
Not sure how your PC will respond to the presence of the Mac partition, however. (No experience.) You may want to do some testing.

  • How to mount drive or library on OSB 10.2.0.3.0

how to mount drive or library on OSB 10.2.0.3.0. My Tape library is DELL TL-2000 with windows 2003 (but the windows identify it as IBM TotalStorage 3575 library and IBM ULT3580-TD3 drive).

  • Cant mount /var at boot

I am experiencing problem with our v480 server, as ocasionally it fails to boot and gives cant mount /var error and goes into single user mode. (Log file is attached below). Once this happens, it doesnt come back into runlevel 3 until it is completely powered off and on.
I fixed the (ufs log for / changed state to Error ) message by removing the patch 113073-14 and making / as nologging in /etc/vfstab file. But the problem with not mounting /var still comes up. I am attaching the log file below with the ufslog error message included (which doesnt show up after patch removal).
I am looking for any suggestions or hints, what would be causing this. Thanks a lot.

This error doesnt occur in all boots, but once it occurs , we have to power off the machine and power back on and machine boots normally into run level 3 without this /var error. otherwise a simple reboot doesnt help and we get the same error.

You need to obtain the drivers from your motherboard manufacturer. The drivers you have downloaded are for STAND ALONE cards only, not for integrated motherboard sound cards. I do know that Gateway and other manufacturers have these bundled with their systems. Try here also for a tweaked driver/install package......

    {****Edit of my own message*****)
I looked for MSI motherboard drivers for that integrated Creative chip and the ones I found were not! for Windows 7. That is why I hope Dan K.'s drivers help you. I have not used that specific Creative onboard chip, so I do not know if Dan K.'s drivers will install. But users in other forums say his package works better than Gateway's inside Windows 7/Vista.
After looking for the options for downloads, I see that there are some drivers out there for integrated realtek/Creative MB software and there are X-FI extreme audio cards that come separately with motherboard that plug in like a standalone sound card. Again, you should check on the MSI home page for their newest drivers. The Creative drivers available straight from Creative may not have your sound card's ID in the driver files for "retail cards" that they have drivers up for. Daniel K and other modders add the proper hardware manufacturer IDs to their driver packs so you can install their ALL IN ONE packs on your system. But I have not seen any users talk of doing that.

  • How do get a mounted drive to always be shown in 'devices'?

    Hello,
some time ago, I accidentally clicked "remove" on a mounted drive which was shown in the devices section of finder, on the left. Now, whenever I mount a drive on my desktop, it doesn't show in devices unless I drag it there - and then disappears again on restart. Any ideas how I can get it to stay in the devices section whenever it's mounted?
    Thanks!

Would it help if I just trash the preferences? Which file(s) should I look for?
    Yes.
Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then, restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Removing desktop icon of NFS mounted drive

    Hi,
I have an NFS mounted drive (on a linux server) on my mac mini, running OS 10.4. I don't want the icon to appear on the desktop. Is there any way to remove this?
    The reason is as follows:
    - the NFS mounted directory is of the form servername:/home which contains home directories for all the students. This is mounted to /Volumes/servername. The students home directories are set to /Volumes/servername/userid. Thus, in the finder, their home directory shows up correctly, and they can browse their network files.
    - However, /Volumes/servername is shown as a mounted disk icon on the desktop, and if students open this, they get a list of everyone's home directories, which they have to scroll through to reach their own home directory. This gives them immediate access to other people's home directories. Granted, these should all be locked and inaccessable to them, but if anyone has messed up their permissions, everyone will instantly be able to see that there is no red X by the home directory, and they can browse in.
    - I realise people can browse in anyway, through the Finder, but its just nice not to make it quite so obvious to them.
So... any ideas on how to remove this desktop icon? Note that it needs to be removed for all users (a hundred or so students, logging in through LDAP).
    Thanks!

I have figured this out now...
If you mount the directories at the point /home (or at least ask it to - in fact it mounts it somewhere in /private) then the desktop icon is not displayed by default.

  • Cant mount CDROM

Hi, i was surprised when i figured out that i cannont mount my cdrom.
I have 2 DVD trays. I cant mount cd's in one of them. But in the other i get this:
    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result).
I did some chmod there and i got this error:
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Imposible encontrar el motor de temas en la ruta al _modulo: «ubuntulooks»,
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Imposible encontrar el motor de temas en la ruta al _modulo: «crux-engine»,
    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)
For the one who doesnt speak spanish, the traslation will be:
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot find theme at al _module: «ubuntulooks»,
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot find theme at al _module: «crux-engine»,
    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)
I googled this, but all that i found was "chmod a+rwx /dev/cdrom0.. " and things like that, but still dont work

You could also try with http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26195 which does the job without the whole policykit mess.

  • Archiso no longer auto-mounts drive

I'm using a custom installation with archiso..
It used to boot and auto-mount the drive with archisolabel="XXX" (where XXX is the drive label) to /bootmnt
Now, updating to newest archiso-git it always brings me into maintanence mode (cannot mount drive at /dev/disk/by-label/arch)
Typing "mount /dev/disk/by-label/arch /bootmnt; exit" works and finishes the init.
I've tried setting the drive label on this -- however the new archiso doesn't seem to support that:
    [root@image64 iso]# tune2fs -L arch /dev/sdc1
    tune2fs 1.41.9 (22-Aug-2009)
tune2fs: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sdc1
    Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.
Any ideas what I'm missing here?

That’s correct Bob and that behaviour is fine for the purpose which it is intended i.e to relink when a job has moved in the filesystem or across workstations. The file selection/highlighting behaviour may just have been a quirk but it was a useful one in some specific scenarios. Mine was (magazine production workflow):
Images are placed by a layout artist in the format they are supplied (usually JPGs). The job folder is then passed to a prepress operator to perform finished cutouts and retouching. They output a corrected PSD into the same job’s images folder. They alt+tab to Indesign, select the image and got to Relink. The app file browser window opens and the linked JPEG is highlighted. Immediately above/below it is the matching new PSD (if they’re sorted by name). It therefore becomes far less likely that the operator will select the wrong file to relink because of the new PSD’s immediate proximity to the JPG.
With no highlighting the operator has to scroll/search for the file visually (with one eye on the window title bar to get the ridiculously long but fabulously descriptive filename :) to relink and this not only slows them down but also greatly increases the possibility of a selection error without the visual cue.
This may sound like a trivial gripe, but when some layouts contain large numbers of images, some of which are visually similar (and therefore can not easily be spotted shifting when the Relink is committed) it becomes an issue.
    To be fair to Adobe:
    1. This is not a normal scenario for the vast majority of users.
    2. It was probably only a happy accident that files were highlighted in the first place.
Anyway I have a workaround. I asked my picture editor to convert all images to PSD before they’re placed :-)
