Cant move

I am trying to fix my son's flat panel imac. He cant get anything to move. the files on the desktop or inside folders. Nothing will move. He also cant import music cd's into itunes. I tried going to his user library and trashing the apple.finder.plist all i can do is highlight it, i cant move it. He is using mac osx version 10.2.8. 512 MB memory. Processor:700 MHZ . Any ideas? I ran permissions, and reset the pram. Please help.

A system lock can be activated for multiple reasons:
1. This user has no administrative privileges
2. The OS Kernel has been partitioned with a third party program
3. A hardware device designated to make desktop changes is unresponsive.
There are various other things that could have happened. I highly reccomend that all necessary problems/programs are backed up on DVD's (if there is a dvd player), and a system restore be run. Other than that, all that can be done is hardware replacement; which would cost much more.

I don't know when this started but it was two days ago I noticed this. I have changed all the permissions in info to allow me to have read write access to all my hardrives(2) which are both segmented. May have started when I put in the second HD and now I have three systems installed.
I did erase the com.apple.recentitems.plist -- which did not do anything.
I was able to send a copy of the file from my CD via iCHat with no problem.
Originally it would not allow me to move any files even on the harddrives. Not it seem related to the CD's

Kelly - If you just opened the AppleTV1, go to Settings>About and check the software version.
Last software made was 3.02 (one of the better ones).
If lower, update it to that, but make a note of what it shipped with in case you ever factory restore it.
Have you configured ATV1 for LAN/internet access (ethernet by simply plugging in, wi-fi by adding wi-fi details in settings).? If connected to internet you should be able to access YouTube on it.
ATV1 does not use Home Sharing. iTunes computer and AppleTV1 need to be on the same LAN.
To set it up for itunes use you must 'register' it with iTunes with a numeric code. Ideally the main computer used with it should be registered for 'syncing'. Have you added a computer iTunes library under the AppleTV's Settings>Computers menu?
You need to highlight the top entry on this page, press select which should give a numeric code. You then go to itunes on the computer and look for an AppleTV under Devices on the left, select and enter the code. You can then configure auto or custom syncing.
Once configured, locate the rental in iTunes and choose to 'move it' to the AppleTV.

Cant move items between layers CS6

I cant move items between layers in CS6.
The items are not locked
The items are not in groups
The layers are all unlocked
I select the item I want to move then try and move the item to the layer above (or below) with the "dot" on the right side of the layers pallete and nothing happens!
Please help? What am I doing wrong?

true. the <path> was in the toplayer and came from a sublayer. see screens.
I now discovered that with the option 'show layers only' off, I can also move objects from a toplyaer into a sublayer in CS5! great!
by showing the <path> you can drag that into a sublayer. this couldn't be done by selecting the object when it was 'invisible' (as a <path> 'layer') by grabbing the colored square from the top layer into a sublayer (gave a 'no entry' sign).
thing is that in CS6 if the option 'show layers only' is selected, you cannot drag anything anymore...
so there is an extra restriction, rendering the "show layers only" option useless as working mode.

your left side bar is in the header_layer, which pushes the body_layer and footer_layer downward.
iweb does not allow photos grid to be moved into header_layer section, so you have to move the side bar into to body_layer section.
in iweb, do menu --> view --> show layout or command + shift + L
and you will see two thin lines across the page, they are marker for header_layer, body_layer and footer_layer.

Cant move movies to itunes or ipod

ive tried many different converters \i just cant get my movies i downloaded into itunes and when i try to put them on my ipod it gives me an error message "cannot move to ipod because ipod wont play it" or somethin to that effect I have a 160gb ipod classic 6G if that helps anything somebody plz help ive even reinstalled i tunes to see if that would work and it didnt

You have to download a converter (a trial, at least). I know about the issues on trial versions of converters that contain annoying watermarks, but I've found one with a no so bad watermark (at the bottom, not covering the video).

My macbook is overloaded w pics and video that i cant move files around on desktop. what to do?

i have 20,ooo pics and vids just in the photos folder in iphoto not to mention duplicates in different folders. last night i decided to make a movie with imovie and it transfered my vids and it asked me to make thumbnails and i did. today i started to move my pics to ext drive and it is so slow that i cant really do anything at all. right now im on my pc because my macbook is so bloated and i dont know what to do.

Running a program on a disk and the window is stuck in the upper right hand corner, cant move it bc the menu bar is hidden, help?!

Im running a disk from a text book and the window is stuck in the corner and i cant seem to get it to move. Ive tried restarting the computer and the disk, moving it to trash, changing screen resolution, using mission control, command+M, and nothing is working. hi this is so anoying im simply trying to get a work flow going i still cant get this
library i have a folder from i phone, images 99 i create a project to ship them to ,then a album ,as a sub category go fine go back to original i phone folder / i dont know why its folder,   then projects in the iphone pics in library , but if after sorting i go to delete from i phone pics the ones i moved to my titeled album
or project goes to trash to its driving me insane   it also only happens with some ive cleard most of folder to place i want them , this kinda thing happens a lot and really puts me of apeture
some you can delete some you cant some you lose some you thought safe are gone ,   i mean whats the mystry why cant you just move any picture any place and apeture lets you know were and if it needs to remain somwere importent to apeture     i take great phots my libarys a mess from years of not getting it with apeture and lost pictures unsaved libarys    i mean im an artist not a computor wizzard
please simple advice   forget style   just practical advice that works

your post is really hard to understand, sorry. What is the problem?
- You are trying to move images from a project to an album?
- And then you delete them from where?
- And the images end up in the Trash?
One thing you have to remember, is that only projects are containers of images, not folders and not albums. Adding an image to an album will not store it there. To move images from one folder to another, you have to move them from a project in the first folder to a project in the second folder. If you add an image to an album and then remove it from the project, the image will be gone.

I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.

Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

Short answer is:
To use iTunes/App Stores you MUST create an account and have credit card information. You can easily change that and I believe you can also select to not use a credit card, but if there is problems you should contact iTunes support for accounts. Support.apple.com and choose iTunes, then choose Contact Support.

Cant move my stuff from an external harddrive!

i have a windows laptop with a hard drive i have used for a while. all my pictures an videos are on that external hard drive. i recently just bouht a macbook and tried to move my files from the eternal harddrive onto my macbook. but it wouldnt let me. All i want to do is drag and drop my photos and videos into another folder on my desktop. How do i go about acheiving this. Thanks!

When you plug the external drive in does it mount on the desktop? If it does not can you see the drive using Disk Utility?
You can also try turning the external drive off, turning your Mac off. Hooking the drive to your Mac, turning the drive back on and giving it a few seconds to spin up, then turning your Mac on.
See if the drive mounts then.

Hard drive full of back up files, cant move them out

i am new to mac's, i am using a macpro retina 13".
i recently put all my photos in iphoto & edited few home videos in imovie & later moved my iphoto library to an external hard drive. i checked my hard drive for space after moving the iphoto library out to the external drive but it seems to be full, i checked out the storage area in "about my mac" it shows me that the mac hard drive has back ups. i am using an external hardrive for timemachine backups.
my time machine backup was not connected to my mac when i did all the work. i later connected the hard drive & did timemachine back up but the files in the macdrive does not see to move out.
i have attached a pic of the hard drive status in about my mac.
please help me to move this large file out my mac to the external hard drive.

You really should understand what these Time Machine Local Snapshots are and how the impact the storage:

In effect that are temporary and will be deleted as may be required for other data. You may simply ignore them since they will have no adverse affect on the MBP SSD.
