Cant open a tiff photo retaining its transparent background

When I open a tiff photo that has a transparent background in Photoshop elements 7 it opens with a black background and even if I promote it to a layer it still has a black background and if I erase the background I lose part of the picture. Yet if I open the same photo in PhotoPlus x3 it opens with the transparent background with no problem. Is there a setting in elements that I have missed?

Try something like the following:
1. Open the tiff and promote to a layer.
2. Go to Select>Load Selection, if there is a section you can load,
    then load it.
3. Go to Edit>Cut to remove the black background.

    Someone said to open the application while holding down command + option and select the last option, but that did not work.

    Try downloading the latest version of iPhoto Library Manager and rebuilding. It create a new copy of the library which drops stuff like slideshows but if you can't get it to work I would try iphoto library manger.

  • Cant open pages/I photo/I movie/Keynotes and Numbers anymore

    Dear All
    After cleaning my mac with the program clean my mac (http://macpaw.com/), I cant open pages/I photo/  I movie/Keynotes and Numbers anymore. The icons are still in the bar below, but with a with a crossed circle.
    I took my macbook (Mac Os 10.6.8) to the apple store and they recommended me to reinstall MacOSX again (which I did). Afterwards i reinstalled application and I life.
    With the the small success that I can open the system prefernces again but not the other programs mentioned above.
    Any tips?
    Thanks a lot!
    best regards

    Thanks for the info. I will add one item to my blacklist.
    I would backup my datas,
    wipe out the HD
    reinstall on the clean HD
    restore my datas
    and after that, everything would behave flawlessly.
    Oops, I forgot to say : before wiping the HD, check that you have the iWork registration code available somewhere if you **** bought an iWork license (not a Dvd).

  • How do you make a photo have a transparent background

    I have a photo of a fire truck outside of the fire department. I want to remove the background and select only the truck itself. I then want to be able to have it transparent when I put the picture on a scrapbook page. I do not want a white box background. What steps are needed to accomplish this. I currently have Photoshop Elements 6. Thanks!
    Teresa

    Use one of the selection tools. lasso tool for example, to select the truck
    Go to Edit>copy. This puts it on the computer's clipboard
    Open the scapbook background
    Go to Edit paste. The truck should be on a separate layer
    Access the move tool, position the truck.
    You can resize using the corner handles of the bounding box while holding down the shift key

    To get the best answer to your question, go to the forum that relates to the software you are using and then give complete details on what you have done. There are specific forums for Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Flash, etc.
    Your question is too vague to make sense.

    Do you have and faces and places set? If not or not enough that it would not be an effort to redo, try using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library as follows:
    Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
    4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. *The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.*

  • Can't get photo with transparent background to show up that way

    I'm quite new to PSE (using ver. 6) so thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
    I have a photo, and have made the background transparent, and saved it as a GIF file.  When opened, it shows up with the checkered background.  Good so far.
    When I drag this photo from the Project Bin at the bottom (where I still see the checkerd background) into the image I'm working on, it shows up with a solid gray background once dropped into that image.  So in essence, the background is no longer transparent.
    How do I add this photo with the transparent background to the image I'm working on without a background / frame showing up?  I've combed the internet and can't find an answer, and searching this forum, still coming up empty.  I think the problem has to do with dragging it from the project bin.  How else can I get it into the image I'm working on?
    Thanks!
    Kevin

    In PSE 6, dragging up from the project bin creates a special kind of passthrough layer. Copy/paste, or drag it down from the gif's image window into the other file in the project bin instead.

  • Why does placed eps file containing a drop shadow lose transparent background?

    When I place an eps file from adobe illustrator cs6, which has a drop shadow, into InDesign the file loses its transparent background and comes in with a solid white background. I'v selected the "Transparent" radial button in Illustrator while saving the file to eps but it doesn't work. Any ideas???

    EPS means Encapsulated PostScript (it's really PostScript code wrapped up in a capsule that allows you to place it into other applications as an image), and the PostScript specification doesn't include transparency. That's why even though you have transparency in the Illustrator image, it's format won't translate that transparency data into usable transparency when you place it into InDesign. Lack of transparency support is one of the main reasons people recommend not using eps in a modern workflow.

  • Loading transparent background gif on an image

    Hello everyone! I am trying to load a transparent background gif([http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/graphics/animehurr.gif]) on another image (which is a map). My way is adding two JPanels, each of them will load an image as an ImageIcon, however, the gif will display its transparent background as white. So, I googled the problem, it seems someone has a similar problem([t-681840]). I think the background area is not transparent due to the wrong container under the image, but I have no clue to make it right. I appeciated anyone can post a comment, or give me some advice.
    I attach my code as following.
        jPanel1 = new JPanel();
        getContentPane().add(jPanel1);
        jPanel1.setBounds(12, 10, 647, 358);
