Cant open firefox on multiple computers due to roaming profiles?

Hello. I am a teacher and multiple students log on to a network with the same user name and password. When they try to dun firefox on multiple computers only one will work. The others say that firefox is already running even though it isn't. i suspect roaming profiles. Internet explorer works fine but firefox doesn't. Is there any fix for this that will allow me to run multiple instances of firefox on seperate computers when users on the network log on with the same user name and password?

Unfortunately, those so called amazing improvements you reference haven't changed much when it comes to the browser freezing on startup when it's being opened. 278,228K memory using when not doing much. Have a couple of small plug-ins but probably not much compared to most FF users.

    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Linux users cannot open Firefox on multiple systems that are mounting the same network drive as their home directory

I am supporting a user who is logging into multiple linux systems that all have the same /home directory mounted to a network filer.
When the user opens firefox on one system, he is unable to open firefox on other systems.
I'm assuming this is because firefox is storing his profile in /home.
These are Centos 5.4 x64 systems, authenticatiing to a Windows 2003 Domain. The filer that hosts the home directories is a NetApp with both CIFS and NFS permissions enabled on the volume that /home resides. We are using the version that came with the Centos installation, 3.0.12

So while this worked well for my computer at home, it does not work for the actual computer the disk is mounted on.  If I try to mount the disk as the "office" user, the computer rejects the connection to itself and tells me to access it locally.  Any ideas on how to handle this?  Thanks again.

  • I cant open firefox, everytime i click on it it just fades away!

I have reinstalled it but it still doesn't work. And the little app thing on the pc, when i click it it just fades away. Can you please help!!

    Hi JakeBubber ,
We might be able to fix this by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com and save the setup file to your computer.
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].
<b>WARNING:</b>Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. • When I open Firefox, I'm prompted to create a profile, but every time I click the create profile button, the window opens and immediately shuts.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled mozilla several times. I've read online about looking for a profile.ini file, that file does not exist on my computer. Everytime I open firefox, the choose user profile box appears, and when I click create profile, a window opens and immediately closes.

If even the Mozilla folder isn't there then it is possible that Firefox already crashes before being able to create that folder structure.
Try to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • Firefox on multiple computers and platforms has been slow over the past month or so.

I first noticed that Firefox was slow on my personal computer.
I thought that it was in relation to the "cookie clicker" window that had been open for months on end running 24/7 on my computer.
But I then noticed it on my work computer. I think it happened around the v26 update.
I am an "IT Guy".. or something.. a network administrator.. I work on dozens of computers a week..
I just setup a "new" computer at work last Friday.. It is not a "fresh install".. it is a ghost image of a Dell Optiplex 780 for a few years ago. I updated Firefox by going to .. "help" -> "about firefox".. It is slow on that computer too.. 3.0 ghz c2d with 4gb ram..
Either way.. I know I sound like a high maintenance, whining bitch.. but, firefox takes a few seconds to open a new window...
I have switched a lot of things to chrome (becuase I know longer care about the old shit where they were tracking my data and browsing habits etc..).. becuase it is faster..
I hit ctrl+N in firefox. shit was slow.. i go to chrome and do it.. 5-7x faster.. in my rough, not completely sober experience..
What I used to do, is click the firefox icon in my "quicklaunch" bar..
here is what I do in windows 7.. I unpin all icons from the start bar. i create a custom toolbar called "quicklaunch" and I put the icons in it.. just like windows xp, or maybe ME edition, or maybe windows 98 with Plus! or something like that..
Not only do I create a quicklaunch on my own computer.. I put it on a hundred other people's computers a year.. Because they don't like change and want things to work how they used to work.... and because I think I am right...
So... I click on the firefox icon in my quicklaunch.. and it takes a few seconds to open ( i can count to 6, but it is probably 2.7 seconds or something)... it doesn't sound like a big deal.. but i grit my fucking teeth when it happens..
i click on the chrome icon in my quicklaunch.. and it does "something" immediately. to reassure me..
so, i am only ranting because, A. i am under the influence of alcohol, and B. because (since I under the influence of alcohol, i have a slightly inflated sense of self worth or something, that makes me thing something will take the time to read this)..
but.. reading it, vs, deciphering it and passing it along to someone who can do something about it..
and shiiiiit.. those people probably already know what is going on and why.. for all I know.. google is fucking with you right and forcing to you make changes that slow your browser down because of some guy a firefox fucked someone's daughter at google...
haven't given up on firefox.. but, my conspiracy is spinning in my head now.. and I am going to have to go to the last browser i used before firefox.. Opera. hahah.. fucking opera.. it does work.. and is decent, right? the other browsers stole the tabs idea from them, right??

Unfortunately, those so called amazing improvements you reference haven't changed much when it comes to the browser freezing on startup when it's being opened. 278,228K memory using when not doing much. Have a couple of small plug-ins but probably not much compared to most FF users.

I work part-time at a school and want to know if there's an efficient way to install Firefox on all the computers in the computer lab, all of which run Windows XP. • Hotmail isn't working on firefox on multiple computers

I have been trying to navigate to hotmail.com and the page simply turns up blank. I am very tempted to switch to IE though I would rather not. I've tried to get this to work on more than one computer but it seems to be a universal problem.

I have had this nagging problem several times. Each time more frustrating than the last.
'''PDF''''s. If you have a .pdf page open in Firefox (as often happens when looking at brochures and whatnot from websites) the mousepad side scroll function will not work. Plugging in an external usb device works just fine, making the situation that much more aggravating.
Simply close any windows or tabs from Firefox that are displaying .pdf's, and the blood pressure "should" return to normal values. If your blood pressure doesn't return to a satisfactory value, see your family doctor. He'll probably ensure your continued trust in Firefox is still better than any experience with explor.er.

  • Outlook 2013 is crashing almost immediately upon opening it, on multiple computers.

So, I've got this client.  He's a lawyer, he runs a small law office with four employees to help him in his day-to-day work.  I'm his IT guy, and I recommended that he purchase Office 365.
I am beginning to regret making that recommendation.
Now, obviously, in a small law office, e-mail is a pretty essential part of the office workflow.  The lead guy usually corresponds with his office from his home office 45 miles away.  He does so via e-mail.  He's not exactly a stellar typist,
either, so much to my chagrin, he's more-or-less stuck with Outlook.  If he wasn't so dead-set on using handwriting and ink, I would have him using Mozilla Thunderbird in a heartbeat, because my experience with Outlook tonight has been unbelievable.
Thunderbird downloaded, and displays 10,000+ e-mails without skipping a beat, and it's free.  Your product costs $100/year, and is crashing on EVERY SINGLE MACHINE.
Each employee has their own IMAP e-mail account from our webhost, InMotionHosting.  My client has three IMAP e-mail accounts -- his main, public-facing account, his internal private correspondence account, and an account to which all newsletters and
such are going to.  Each employee has everyone else's e-mail account on each of their machines, so they can all easily correspond with eachother and keep track of eachother's progress on one matter or another.
    The problem:
I fire up Outlook, at which point, it begins to Send/Receive from all accounts.  This lasts about a minute, before I am informed that "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working."  If I try to click on ANY other inbox, again, Outlook crashes.
I have tried outlook.exe /safe.  I have tried outlook.exe /cleanviews.  I have ensured that I have the latest Windows updates.  I have ensured that I have the latest Office updates.  I have tried the ScanPST.exe utility.  I have tried
deleting my client's profile, and manually re-adding each and every e-mail account.  I have tried a repair install of Outlook.
Nothing.  Works.  Eventually, it gets to a point where Outlook just crashes, and will not stop crashing whenever I open it.  I can only hope that this is happening to millions of other users, and the woeful lack of action on Microsoft's part
will lead to someone, ANYONE, presenting a valid alternative to Outlook.  Your monopoly on office productivity software is obvious to anyone who uses these.

Hi, in case the antivirus software conflicts with Outlook, please disable your security AVG/Firewall, especially the mail scanner module to check whether it would happen again.
For the further steps, please perform a clean boot to troubleshoot the problem:
