Why is my iPhoto damaged or incomplete?  Now what do I do?

Why? Who knows. What to do? Reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

i  cant open iphoto here, open with a circle turning show loading, how to fix it. help!! i nit to reopen it and keep my precious photo

    What version of iPhoto?
If it's 09 or later try
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and cant open iPhoto!  Saw an update for app but it won't let me; says not available for this AppleID because it was bought by a diff user or item was refunded.   Not so. What now?

UPgraded to Yosemite and now I cant open iPhoto.  App says it needs to be updated but yet I cant udate cause it says update not available for this ID cause it was bought by another user (I only have 1 Apple Id) or item was refunded or cancelled.  ANY IDEAS?  Thnx!

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

You need to re-install iphoto as it is missing parts of itself.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)

  • When opening iPhoto: Error, can't open because damaged or incomplete

I tried installing iLife '11 (accidentally) even though I already had it but quit the installation process. Now, my iPhoto application shows a white disabled icon and when I open it, a message is displayed that says "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." I don't have an iLife '11 disk. How can I fixed iPhoto?

No. Installing an existing program is not necessary but (generally) will not hurt anything
You can reinstall iPhoto for the original source - either on the system restore disk that came with your computer or on newer Macs accepted from the App store
Worst case is you can purchase iPhoto '11 from the App store for $15.00

  • Just installed iLife and get error message on iPhoto - damaged or incomplete

I have a Mac version 10.9.4. iPhoto worked fine.
I previously had a Mac and bought iLife 11 for it.
I have just installed the iLife 11 on the new Mac.
Now my iPhoto will not work. The error message I get is "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.'
I don't want to delete the app and re-install it yet because I fear losing all my precious photographs.
Can anyone tell me if my photographs will be saved? I have literally thousands.
    Is there any other fix?

Your photos are stored in your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder.  Reinstalling iPhoto will not delete the iPhoto library, only the iPhoto application will be replaced.
The iPhoto version, that comes with the iLife '11 DVD is not compatible with OS X 10.9.4, you need to install iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store. Remove the damaged iPhoto.app version from the Applications folder and download iPhoto 9.5.1 from the Purchased tab of the App Store.

  • IPhoto damaged or incomplete-Don't want to lose photos

My I mac is about 4 months old. Yesterday I installed iWork 09, no problem. Today there were updates for my i work, so I downloaded and updated my iWork. After that my iPhoto is damaged or incomplete. I cannot access my photos due to iPhoto's malfunction.
I am afraid I will lose my photos. If I reinstall iphoto will I lose my photo's?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You probably have a damaged iPhoto library but your image files are safe. Did you repair disk permissions after installing iWork and it's updates? If not do so, reboot and try iPhoto again.
Next, backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2

  • Iphoto damaged o incomplete. I need a cheap solution

My MacBook said that iphoto is damaged or incomplete, so what do i?  I Don't want to pay for te the application because i have paid quite a bit of money by the MacBook

If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Cant open iphoto after getting ilife

Like others I downloaded ilife and get a message "in order to open iphoto you need to update for latest version". I removed everything, tried again but no good. What should I do please. I was happy with previous version of iphoto. Looking at all the problems reported here, i think I will revert to that. How do I do that please, if i decide to do so

Like others I downloaded ilife and get a message "in order to open iphoto you need to update for latest version".
No - no one here has downloaded iPhoto '11 or iLife '11 - it is not an available legal download - updates are available to download
I removed everything, tried again but no good.
    Exactly what did you remove?
What should I do please. I was happy with previous version of iphoto.
What version of iLife was that?
Looking at all the problems reported here, i think I will revert to that.
Note that the reason all for those problems are here is -- BECAUSE - this the place to report and solve problems - making a judgement here is like going to the hospital emergency room and deciding that everyone in town is sick - few people have had problems and with the 9.1.1 update almost every thing appears to have been cleared up
How do I do that please, if i decide to do so
To revert is simple - load your backup of the previous version and install the previous version from the the disks
