Cant open over network from Windows to Leopard, but ok to Tiger

Hi
We have a number of Mac Pro's some running Tiger and others running Leopard. I can open any quicktime file over our network from a PC to any Tiger Mac, but not to a Leopard Mac. Why not? I can see the files I can open any other file type, just not QT. Copy the same file over to one of the Tiger Mac's and I can open it from the Windows PC. This would not be such an issue, but we are dealing with 1920x1080 uncompressed files and it is a real pain to move them.
Get Error 43: a file could not be found
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Tony

Well outside help other than this list has solved this. Seems there is a bug in QT windows that if a QT file resides in a folder on the MAc with a name longer than 8 characters, it wont open over the network.
ie. Running QT Windows 7.5 connecting over network to a Mac running leopard.

  • Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?
    Many thanks!

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?

    Hi Catherine ,
I would like to know which version of Acrobat are you using?
If it is Acrobat 10 , go to the "General" settings, and uncheck "Activate the protected mode at start up ".
If this does not work ,try uninstalling Acrobat once with the help of Cleaner Tool .
Here is the link for the same.
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
The try re installing it .Make sure all the third part software are disabled while you install Acrobat .
Try these solutions and see if that works for you.

  • How to disable Setting button in Tools - Options - Advanced - Network from windows registry?

    Dear support,
Now, my office use Firefox as default browser to access WebServer. And there are some policy that users must use ProxyServer. I do not want user change proxy setting in Firefox. How to disable Setting button in Tools - Options - Advanced - Network from windows registry?
    Thank you.
    Treky

You can not use the Windows registry to disable items in Firefox. This link shows how to lock down Firefox proxy settings, change the values to suit your needs:

One minor variation, in step 4 instead of adding that line to all-js, you can create a file called ''local-settings.js'' containing the line shown and save the file in the same folder as all.js

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

  • Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick

Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick, I can only open up docx file. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't use Phantasm or VectorScribe (or any Astute Graphics plugins for that matter). I do, however, have a Wacom tablet and have a few plugins that concern using Blurb Book Creator as well as LiveSurface Context.
I did the very unfortunate and foolish act of upgrading to Maverick without a backup, so postponing isn't an option for me.
I geuss my question at this point would be, would it be worthwhile to wipe all the adobe products from my harddrive and re-install them? Or would that be a useless endeavor.
I don't have an external hard-drive so backing up and re-installing the entire OS would be a bit much. Any suggestions?

On my iPad, I'm trying to open a PDF from Safari with iBooks, but when I choose "Open with ..." in Safari, only Pages and Dropbox show as options.  I'm running iOS 7.1.2 and iBooks 3.2.  I have rebooted the iPad and that did not help, and reinstalled iBooks, which also changed nothing.  Thanks for any ideas!

Yup, it was uploaded to our school Wiki as a PDF, and Pages did open it.  I was then able to move it to iBooks, but I'd rather avoid the extra steps.

    HELP!!!

    Hi ashraf_8900,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when you cannot open iTunes or sign in with your Apple ID. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend. I would first recommend that you completely uninstall iTunes and all of its related components in the correct order, however. Please use the attached article for information and instructions on removing iTunes from your computer. Once removed as described in the steps below, please install fresh and test. If the issue continues, please let me know.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
    Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
    Happy holidays,
    Joe

  • CS6 won't open all images from Windows Explorer

    Hi!
Today a colleague of mine encountered a strange behaviour with Photoshop CS6 64bit on a Win7-PC (also 64bit), which I could reproduce on a second machine.
Highlighting severeal jpg-images in a folder and hitting the Enter-key opens
all images in Photoshop, when Photoshop wasn't running
only some images (1 - 4 images out of 5) randomly, when Photoshop was already running
The same effect happens when I use the "Open with..."-command from Windows Explorer on the images.
    Does anyone know this issue?
    Regards
    Dieter

Normal behavior. Windows only allows a given number of files to be handed over via DDE and that's what happens when a process is already active. When you do this with no program open, it simply blindly fires a standard command with only one file as an argument, but does so for every single file. That's why it works then. Nothing you can change. It's a limitation in Windows itself combined with the fact that only one PS process can be active....

  • Canon MF4150 over network on Windows 2000

I've been searching but haven't found a solution for my problem, so I thought maybe someone could help.
I'm running a Canon MF4150 laser printer on a Windows2000 server. The printer is shared out and can be accessed nicely through Windows machines on the network. Now I need to print to it from my iMac but can't get it to work.
I have downloaded the latest driver from Canon's website, v1.80, and installed the driver. Interestingly however, there is still no imageClass or MF4150 printer in my list. There are two UFRII printer entries but none seems to be an obvious choice for the MF4150, once called "MF4360-4390 UFRII LT" and the other one "D460-D490 UFRII LT."
So I look up the printer on the network using System Preferences -> Print & Fax" and then select it under "Windows" where the printer shows up nicely. Since I don't seem to have a proper driver despite my installing it, I selected the MF4360-4390 UFRII LT driver in hopes it would work. But no luck.
I never get a peep out of the printer and if I go to the printer monitor and select utilities I get an error message saying, "Cannot find the printer to monitor."
Does anyone have any suggestions what I may be doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Guido

I had the same problem when I tried, quite stubbornly, to get my USB-connected Canon MF4150 to Vista Home Edition Compaq Presario machine to print over the network from both my iBook G4 and my MacBook Pro, wireless, both running OS 10.5.5.
I tried every iteration of the Canon UF driver, from 1.6, to 1.7, to 1.8, and I tried both the IP Printing feature with and without LPD support. I enabled LPD printing from within Vista as well in case it was a Microsoft issue. I also tried going through the Windows pane in the print panel. It appears that yes, it's a driver coding issue, one of which I've never experienced with HP. It appears Canon just releases a new model of printer rather than effectively update their drivers to support cross-platform network printing.
Hopefully Canon will release a 1.9 or 2.0 that effectively addresses this issue. I'm able to see the printer over the Windows Network via the Add Printer Preferences pane and the Windows tab. However, even though it "sees" it I get an error code.... 45052 or something like that. The printer just doesn't respond to the command.
Why doesn't Microsoft have something similar to Bonjour which would facilitate printers shared on a Windows Network...wouldn't that make it a lot easier? It's too bad Bonjour is only one-directional from a Macintosh to PCs, and not bi-directional. It would solve a lot of headaches like having to load VMWARE or other bologna like that.
Having solved lots of other cross-platform issues in the past, this one was a doozy and I guess all we can do is call technical support at Canon and put in a trouble ticket for them to release a new driver that's coded to handle wireless network protocols in addition to hard-connect USB protocols. That seems to be the solution but apparently it must come from Canon.

  • Quickbooks slow to open over network

Quickbooks is Database Server Manager is Running R6.5554 each of the end computers is fully patched (not sure version don't have it in front of me). I was thinking that too but I am getting the same issue when I try and run it from a client computer (not touched in server upgrade) to another client computer.

I have a customer that I updated from Server 2003 R2 to Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Now they are complaining though that the quickbooks is very slow to open and I have confirmed it takes about 60 seconds from the login screen of quickbooks to having the file open.My first thought was the HDD was failing so I replaced the entire OS drive with a new SSD. Same issue. Then I thought maybe it was the server's fault so i copied the file to a end users computer and the login process was almost instant. So to take the test farther I then told that computer to host the QB file and connected another computer to the computer hosting the file (straight though no switch just direct connection) and the computer hosting the file was working great. The laptop I was trying to open over the test network was same as loading from the server 60 seconds+...

  • IMac 24" cant connect in WiFi from Windows Vista

    Hi;
First I apologize for my bad english.
    Now, here is my problem.
My iMac 24" running under OS X 5.6 connects itself perfectly in WiFi to my CometLabs WRM42 ADSL router in Mac mode. But i'm not able to establish the same connexion in Windows Vista mode.
According to Windows troobleshooting, linking router and Mac with a cable permits the connexion to work and continue to work after pulling out the cable. But the connexion is not again possible without cable after a restart of the computer.
Many thanks to whom will give me the solution.

well, to be honest...networking in x ***** these days - but not as much as windows does I miss os9...
Anyway, I have a great deal of experience with it and windows, so chances are i've ran into this problem before... so here it goes -
question one - in your "directory access"(in utilities) what workgroup do you have (it has to be IDENTICAL as the one on the windows machine) otherwise windows wont play nice.
Question two- whats the hardware setup like? Is this directly through a crossover cable? Are you connected through a switch? It sounds like its able to connect, so it must be correctly wired, but. There have been instances (here anyway) where the plug on the wire either wasnt firmly seated, giving intermittant access, or it was simply put together badly. Not that this is the case here, but i would try to eliminate that possibility by going directly between computers with a cross over cable (a good one..heh) just to be certain.
id ask the ip# question, but you gave that in your ping report. The numbers appear to be right, the only thing here i could think of is if A) you have differing subnets, or you have different dns numbers. I highly doubt thats the problem though. Now depending on your version of x, i seem to recall there being the need to set a user to be able to share to windows. In the older days i believe that box was in the accounts control panel. Now its a "accounts" button in the sharing control panel. Be sure to give it the name and pass of the account you've turned on.
the other question that might pertain is, what version of windows is this? Strangely enough i seem to have better success with win98 than with xp. But it would be interesting to find out...
anyhoo, good luck with the voodoo
