Cant open Video File

I have bought the book called Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Classroom In a Book.
I'm up to Lesson 3 and the instructions say to go to the Lesson 3 folder and open the video file called Tiger.AVI.
When I do that in Photoshop elemenst 9 it sais "can't open the file because its in an unsopported format"
This video file is from the DVD that came with the book, i have not modified it in any way.
Why can't Photoshop Elements 9 open this file so that I can continue with the lessons?

I have installed Quicktime and i'm able to play the video file with quicktime however, Photoshop Elements 9 will not play it still. I still get the same error message that i have posted in my first post.
Can anyone please help?

Apropos Rick's messages, the IB error you reported is most often caused by an installation or version problem. This often happens when a new SDK is installed over an older SDK, and is often fixed by removing as much of the previous SDK as possible before re-installing the new one. If you search on the text of your error message in this forum and/or Google, you'll find lots of advice on how to clean your system before installing a new SDK.

I'm also wondering what book you have. You said your book was titled "Beginning ipod development". I can't find that title on the net, so you probably didn't type the exact title. However if that is indeed to title of your book, it might be too old. So if the book came with a CD, you could have some xib files that are too old for your SDK.
If the above doesn't apply to you, then take Rick's suggestion and get the latest SDK from the iPhone Dev Center. Then you'll need to clean your system to get rid of the previous SDK. Do this even if the previous SDK is the same one you just downloaded, because that's the best way to fix a bad installation. You should also consult the other posts on this subject that discuss permission problems. For example I think you could get IB to fail by installing as one user and then opening IB as another user.
In any case, if you re-install, there's one step you must never omit: Rename your /Developer folder (e.g. to /OldDev).

It is more convenient for me to play videos in Quicktime since iTunes is such a memory hog. Please help.

You may get better results if you switch to this alternate version: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) and, if needed, reinstall QuickTime. The new (nearly) all 64-bit version doesn't seem to play well with QuickTime. Perhaps if DRM authentication is required QuickTime needs to be able to see something that is part of the older 32-bit code.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. If this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Otherwise, please provide additional details...for example:
What, exactly is the true file format? Not simply the file extension, but the true format?
Does the file extension match the true file format?
Where was the file created?
Does the file work on other devices?
Do other format video files work OK on your device?
What is your exact OS level, and what exact app are you using to try and play the file?

Why does Firefox 4 not open video files (news and youtube) at all, but Firefox 3 and MSIE 8 open these video files quickly, all on my Dell Dimension 8250 desktop with MS Windows XL Pro?

I subscribe to an Earthlink package of telephone and ISP through DSL in Dallas, Texas. To avoid the congestion (time outs and files not found) of the virtual "cloud" servers, as a workaround I connect to the Internet through dial-up on each session on my pc. There is only one pc or computer on my local network. I downloaded Firefox 4 RC and it failed (would not open video files on the Internet), so I removed the Firefox 4 RC program from my pc, and then I downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.16, which works fine.
My operating system is Windows XP Pro.

Try disabling hardware acceleration. Many visual bugs can be attributed to issues with graphics drivers.
(Firefox -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> [ ] Use hardware acceleration when available)

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

We need to know the exact source of the file and what system you're on. Could simply be an unresolvable compatibility issue/ unsupported format.

Sony NEW RX10 & iPhoto Cant open RAW files

Hey Guys, I know that not ALL RAW files are equal! I just picked up a NEW SONY RX10 and its shooting RAW files in Sony's ARW format.. I see that the NEW a7's are updated in OSX updates, Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format, but I cant open these files in Preview and Iphoto wont see them either! Im using OSX 10.8.5 (ML) and Iphoto 11 (9.4.3) (720.91) Is anyone else having this issue with a RX10 or newer Sony camera with ARW files... Please reply! I really would like to shoot in RAW and use iPhoto to edit! I guess not ALL SONY .ARW are equal????

Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format,
There you go - that is an incorrect assumption (as most assumptions are - as you know when you assume you make an ***ume out of ***ume & assume) - every RAW format for every camera is different and requires specific support for tha tcamera - notice in the support list that many different cameras in the same family are listed seperatly
Usually Apple releases Sony RAW support pretty quickly since Sony is a major manfactuer of consumer and professional cameras
Tell Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
The Sony software that came with the camera may help (although my experiance is that Sony has poor to non-existance support for Macs) and possible the Adobe RAW converter can help until Apple releases the required update
And it is very possible that the update will only apply to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.x so it is possible that you will have to upgrade your OS and iPhoto (both free) - when you do be sure to backup first

i get the configuration error that says the software requires certain hardware or software, which is missing. AGP graphic card
i had an ati 9800 graphic card on my g4, now i get the error code. how can i solve this since my g5 duel has the apple graphic card?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all my software of Adobe looking for a solution. After uninstall I have use the adoble cleaner with a sussessfully notice after finished. I have try some of the steps adviced here in some other forums with similar troubles but got unsuccess results. at this point I have reinstalled all my software of Adobe in Win7 64 bit: photoshop CS6 extended and Lightroom 4. In both applications find the same message error when opening video files and both applications works perfect with all other image files: tiff, jpg, raw...
for me its a weird situation that I have not found a clear answer to this problem if we think that I found other adobe users have previously noticed same or very similar experiences with the Dynamiclink Media Server and the "../../Src/directoryRegistry.cpp-283" error message. Actually I wet to Adobe and tried to download the dynamiclink media server and install it manually and there is a failure message saying something that could not install it on this computer.....
The same problem happens having or not having installe the Adobe application Manager which is now CCloud, in both cases is unable to open video files and in both cases the application crashes and have to use Ctl+Alt+Supr to close the Adobe crashed software... before and after being reinstalled a fresh version of my adobe software.

In addition to Mike's suggestions, you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.

thanks for the suggestions weather15 - the firefox help site you directed me to explains what ought to happen but i cant make it work. I shut my firefox browser on my new machine and attach the hard drive from my old machine. I can explore the contents of that drive but when i search it for the suggested folder " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" nothing is found. when i try and open firefox from the old drive, the browser opens that is the new version that i have on my new computer with no saved bookmarks!
