Cant play .qt files on XP or ME win edition

I have Quicktime on my home pc (win me) and on my laptop (win XP home). Downloaded the latest version of directx on them. My problem is I can not get Quicktime files with an
.qt extension to play after I save them off of a web site. The .mov files work great. I check the file properties in windows explorer and it say that its a Quicktime file, but when I try to open it in quicktime, its throws up a screen that says couldnt open the file (gives the name of the file) because it is not a file that Quicktime understands.

Could you post a link to one of these .qt files?
While some browsers (via the QT plug-in) can still understand the file extension you may have to "teach" your PC's to understand it on your Desktop.
Many Web authors use the .qt extension for streaming media via rstp servers. These saved files will require an Internet connection to play.
You may also have some luck by changing the .qt extension to .mov and try the file again.
I just tested on my Mac (QT 7) and changed a .mov file to .qt and the file played just fine.

Cant play local files on mobile

Posting again and hoping for a response before I have to cancel Premium because of it. Hello, I have a Droid Razr M, and I can't play my local files on my Android phone. I have premium, and when I download a playlist/songs to my phone, they come up as (Song Name) Unknown Artist, Unknown Album, and completely grey instead of white with the Dowload Icon next to them. My Phone and my Desktop Spotify are sync'd and I switch between them often.
I used to have success transferring files when working off my Macbook Air to my phone, but no such luck with my HP desktop. I do not have the Macbook anymore so it isn't a solution to this problem. I have connected my phone to my PC yet it does nothing within the Spotify window. When I'm playing a local file on the PC and I try to switch to mobile using connect, it just black screens and I have to back arrow out of that to get back to my playlist, where it resumes fine playing no song. This was not a problem a couple patches ago, yet it may make me unsubscribe because it is my most essential value to my Spotify experience. I will provide more information to solve the problem, if necessary

Yeh it won't sync local files under the latest version of Android.
It's not that it doesnt actually sync it, but on the phone on android. There is no option for local files.
It doesn't come up. Tho it is on the computer Spotify app.
The only way to do it, is to make a playlist. Drag everything from local files into the playlist. Then sync.
You can even click offline mode for what its worth. Obviously its already on the computer as its local files.
It seems files that are not on Spotify are faded out. It is very inconsistent about it. But none the less you can play everything.
Once you have it all on your new shiny playlist. Sync it to the phone. And just sync that playlist which just has local files.
There is no way to work out the bitrate of the files on the spotify app for Andoid, so I can see the kbps. So I know if it is a local version or what the sound quality is either. Anyway you can sync local files only through making a playlist.
The problem lies in the Spotify app. It has the option to click sync local files. And it actually does it, but this is useless as there is no way to search or play these files unless they are in a playlist on the latest Android App. And because it isn't in a playlist you cannot play it.
So yeh Make playlist. Copy Local Files into Playlist. Sync Android Phone with that Playlist. You can now play local files.

Cant play downloaded files

Hi everybody,
I recently conected to internet and of course started download. tha problem is that I can't get any of movie files to be played. It's just shows message "it is file that Quicktime doesn't understand (-2048)" But music files it play just if it is in mp3, but as I'would like to save some space I'm trying to save and play as wma files, but nothing helps.
I'm using DC++ downloading web site, and I have DIVX player and converter. But it can't convert those files to any readable file.
Please advise me something.
p.s Which type of files I can download without fear that I'ts woun't play.

I don't understand the part about the mp3/wma files, but to play movie files that Quicktime doesn't decode, try one of the following:
VLC
MPlayer OS X

Hi, iam using Lumia 520 and i can't play .avi files on my Lumia.... I read that .avi format is supported in 520,but iam unable ... So kindly please help me....

Where did you get the .avi files and what's the error message when trying to play it? Does this happen to all .avi files or in some .avi files only?
Upon checking, the Lumia 520 supports .avi, however it can only play a maximum of 720p.

Cant play some files

The files are .mpg files and i try to open them with quicktime and it says error quicktime can not open this file. and i tried to open it with VLC and then it says "main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format." is there anything i can download to play this files or is there a different video player that i need???? any help would be great thanks

Sounds like either the file extension is wrong or the reference to the WMV3 codec is in error. If it really is a WMV3 (Windows Media Player v9), then neither VLC nor QT will play it natively but you might be able to play it in a v9 compatible Windows Media Player. Might have to change the file extension though to AVI, ASF, or WMV. Not really a windows person myself.

Still Cant Play MP4 Files

The first time I downloaded QT 7.4 , I couldnt play MP4 files in QT and FR. I then had to reinstalled QT 7.3 with Pacifist and it was all okay. Today I downloaded Version 7.4.5 (25) and the same problem cropped up! I thought Apple would have fixed it by now! Anyone else facing the problem? Before installing I had run permissions. I am on the latets verion of Tiger

What's the nature of the files that can't play? Do you hear the audio but can't see the video? Were they converted from .flv using TubeSock or iSqunt? If so, when you download the latest iSquint, it comes with the Debreaker app that fixes those files.
There are other solutions like using Pacifist again or using an old version of a component, but both of those mean that, with every update you'll be doing it again. If your files are of the specific type listed above, that fix has worked through the last few updates with no problems.

6300..cant play music files through music player.

I just got the 6300.
I transferred some music files onto my phone, but i cant seem to play them through "music player".
When i try to search for the songs.. through show "all tracks", they dont appear.
But if i go to my memory card, and play the songs out of there, then it plays, not sure which program it uses to play.
Can anyone help me out?

You need to update the library. In music player:
options .. music library .. options .. update music library
This scans phone and card memory for new tracks. When you see how long this takes, you'll understand why it isn't done automatically each time you start the music player

I cant play mov files saved on an external drive

i exported video from iphoto to an external seagate drive.. when i play them on quicktime i get no sound or video
what am i doing wrong?

please understand i am a complete idiot when it comes to computers..
heres the synopsis of what i have done..
i called apple support and they told me to download vlc from cnet..
it didnt work.
i tried importing the movie files back to my laptop but it says its incompatible..
when i play them with quicktime you can see the play scroll bar move and the time counter is ticking down but i get no sound or video.. the movie files are of different lenghts and they will play for their specified times..
somebody told me it was the codecs and i have seen video of somebody having a similar problem and they said teck support when into their computer online and and changed some settings and the video started working..
i am at a total loss.. i need these files for a court case tomorrow.. the original files are in a lost computer and all i have are the exported copies on the seagate external drive and the ones on this macbook air copied from the seagate.. should i just kill myself now??!!!
any ideas??

IMac with intel chip cant play avi file

I've got some .avi files that I want to watch, but when quicktime launches i just get a blank screen with no sound. The timer bar is going like it is playing, but I get nothing.
The files are avi, but when I checked the encoding, I saw they are xvid.
Any suggestions?

Cant play audio files

I am connecting to the Internet via a highly filtered ISP at a fundamentalist school.
Below are some files that DO NOT play via FireFox (latest version) on the network here on my ibook.

While I cannot play the above audio files at school (the files only play for a few seconds and then cut out) I CAN play them on the same ibook OFF CAMPUS at the local library.

Cant play avi files on osx 10.6.8, quicktime 10.0 (128)

I have a little RC plane that makes AVI files, and my mac wont play them. They play fine on my laptop and my work mac.
quicktime, perian, flip for mac are all installed. The only thing that plays them is VLC player V2.0.
any idea what is out of date that is preventing me from playing them?

Try it with Quicktime Player 7.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

Cant play mov files in speedgrade

I'm pretty noob at this so sorry in advance.
I have a number of .Mov files on my desktop but Speedgrade doesn't show them being playable. I added them to my timeline and all the clips show up, but as one frame clips. I can play these in quicktime fine, the frame rate is 24fps, same as the settings in Speedgrade... not sure what I'm doing wrong.

If no thumbnails show-up in SpeedGrade desktop browser most likely QT player was not installed on OS.
What codec were the .MOV clips encoded with ?

Cant play Quicktime files in IE7/Firefox After upgrading to Quicktime 7.5.5

After upgrading to 7.5.5 I cannot view quicktime files on the apple site using internet explorer 7 or firefox 3.01.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled/rebooted etc but no change.

Anyone with answers please reply because I am suffering from the same problems after reformatting and reloading OEM software and upgrading to current. I thought she had gotten infected from chain emails because of repeated blue screen shutdowns only to find that Quicktime 7 is causing the conflicts.
