Cant power up (start up) my computer...

Hey I have a problem. I cant for some reason power up my computer. I've been building one. My thought is that the motherboard may be messed up, but the thing is there are lights coming from the LAN jacks in the back when I get ready to power up my system? If not than I don't know. Nothing is wrong with the PSU. Can some one help me. Oh a question that I have is, how can you tell if your motherboard is messed up?
THANK YOU

Well you have to dismount everything from the case and outside gather a pile of newspaper put the motherboard on top and start mounting from scratch outside the case, first reseat the processor, have thermal paste at hand, clean both the processor and the HSF of the remain of old paste, be carefull with processor pins, the in slot 1 put one stick of memory, insert gfx then connect the PSU both 24 & 4 pin plugs connect the power cable to the PSU turn it on and with a screwdriver short the 2 pins of the power button, see if it starts....

I haven't tried that RAM thing yet. But can you connect SATA 150 drives to the motherboard's SATA II?
Yes you can, is backward compatible.
Be well....

just bough OSX Mountain Lion, my laptop operating with v10.6.8.  Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition table. 24.44gb disk available.

Verify your computer can run Mountain Lion:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Now try installing Mountain Lion.

Beware!  When you initialize your boot disk be sure that you specify "Journaled" and not "Case-sensitive, Journaled". Previous OSX installers would check this and give an error message. Mavericks does NOT! If you install using "Case-sensitive" many apps will not work.

  • ThinkPad t420 cant power on after some water...

An accident happened today morning. I was drinking above my laptop and accidently some juice is spilled into the keyboard of my T420. After that I plugged out the AC and removed the battery immadiately. It dried out and I tried to power it on. The windows was booted, but suddenly the laptop powered off. Since than I cant power it on. I made a video of its behaviour:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iZykN4Dtz0&feature=youtu.be
If I plug in the AC power, it is blinking like this and when I try to power on, it cant start.
Can you help me? What is the problem with it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

However, you should still removethe keyboard and clean up all the juice residue. Acidity and sugars can cause problems down the road and none of that is covered by warranty if there is any indication of liquid damage.
Unplug everything, remove the battery and keyboard and cleaneverything with a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Let dry and reassemble.
For water damage, remove the battery and keyboard and place the affected item (cell phone, computer etc) in a classic bag with desiccant. Rice works in a pinch but not as well. Leave itthere for two or three days.
DO NOT TRY TO START THE DEVICE ONCE IT HAS GOTTEN WET UNTIL YOU HAVE DRIED IT OUT USING ONE OF THE METHODS ABOVE.
I know it is hard not to try to restart it right after it has gotten wet but that may cause additional damage.
Lesson learned - don't eat or drink by your computer..

  • I cant find my pdf/ibooks on computer after backing up my iPad (they are on my iPad).   Also, I'm having issues with my Ipad turning off about every 2 minutes so I want to restore it.  Dont want to lose my files from my iPad.

Actually I have 2 problems:  I cant find my pdf/ibooks on computer after backing up my iPad (they are on my iPad).  I looked under Ipad, I Books, PDFs, and it doesn't show them on the computer. How do I manually transfer these files?
Also, I'm having issues with my Ipad turning off about every 2 minutes, and I want to restore it.  I want to make sure all of the files are backed up before I restore.  My trouble started when I was trying to update my IPad but it was taking too long (internet was scetchy) so I powered off...now Im having problems.  I haven't tried to update again since this problem. Any suggestions?  Should I restore? Should I update to 7.0.6?  (currently 7.0.3).

  • Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in, any ideas?

Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in so I cannot restore or anything.  Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously.  Has anyone had this problem?  I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

    Hello DJJOC,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To start troubleshooting this issue where your iMac's screen will not illuminate, please reset your SMC by following the information outlined below.
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: For Intel-based Xserve computers that are not responding, you can shut down locally, or by using remote commands, or by pressing and holding the power button for five seconds.

  • Launching Labview as Power User starts installer

I installed Labview 6.1 as admin on a Windows XP SP1 machine. I gave 'everyone' full control to C:\Program Files\National Instruments.
Labview launches fine when I log in as an admin.
When Labview is started when logged in with a Power User account, it launches Windows Installer and starts to give error messages it can not find the required package.
When I make sure the LV CD is in the PC at that time, Labview does not give these errors, but starts to install something (doesn't say what). However, each time LV is launched: same installer messages.
How do I get rid of these messages? It speaks for itself I can not leave the CD in the CD drive.
    Thanks,
    David.

    Hello,
I have the same problem with LabView 7.1 under Windows 2000!!!! I installed LabView 7.1 with admin-rights and every time a power user starts LabView, it trys to install something and says "Please reboot ....." After the reboot nothing has changed. The power user has to click "no" about 10 times to prevent LabView from rebooting. After that it runs fine.
Another problem occurs when the power user trys to restart or shut down the system. This takes about 3 minutes! I figured out that there is a LabView-task appearing and disappearing every 10 sec. in the task-manager during this ~3 minute period preventing the computer from shutting down (sounds strange?! - yes it is). I tried the previous hints about reconfiguring the windows-installer settings but nothing has changed!
    Anyone has an idea???
    Thanks

  • Question about "Power On Start Test"

Hi... I have owned TWO MacBook Pro's, one built back in 2006 and a newer one built in 2009 (both 17 inch)... On either one of them, on say about every 20th or so "pressing of the power key" to start the machine, rather than hearing the mac startup chime and see the screen light up within a few seconds, instead there is no chime and the screen stays black for a long time, maybe up to 30 seconds... Then the chime sounds and the screen comes to life.
If it's quiet in the room when this event (or non-event) happens I can usually hear the quiet sounds you hear when the machine is starting, a bit of clicking and perhaps the sound of the hard drive starting up (??, never been sure what those sounds are other than to say they are "normal"). But you don't hear the chime and nor does the screen light up until some time significantly later...
It's been my belief though not my knowledge that when this happens, again maybe one in every 20 or so starts, that it is the Power on Start Test that is, for some reason, not completing quickly but instead taking some time for whatever reason... If I'm patient, eventually, like in maybe up to 30 seconds, I then hear the chime and away it goes...
Again, this occurs on not one but two different MacBook Pro's and it's done it on both of them at what I would guess would be this same 5% rate since both were new... And over all versions of operating systems that those two machines have seen... So it does NOT appear to be anything tied to something faulty in the individual computer unless I just go so unlucky as to buy two machines 3 years apart that both came with the same problem (unlikely)... I also have an older G4 desktop at home and I have a G5 desktop at work... I've never noticed this on either of those machines so this would perhaps appear to be laptop related????
But as I peruse around and look for other folks who describe such an issue, I don't find much... So, I decided to post this question...
Can anyone offer insight into what might be going on??? Is it a problem??? Might it be hardware, software, what??? Any feedback would be much appreciated...
    thanks... bob..

    try a power manager reset.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if AAS won't install normally.

Clean iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush. Try a different USB cable. Try a different USB port on your computer, try a dedicated USB port on the back of computer.
Maybe a bit easier than DFU Mode is Recovery Mode. Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone, hold both Home and Power buttons until iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the Firmware.
