Cant put ipod in diagnostic mode

I've tried so many times and still can't put my ipod in diagnostic mode. I think I have a hard drive problem because my ipod always freezes in the middle of updating songs. Anyone know why I just cant get it in diagnostic mode?

i did it! just hold the home and power button till the apple appears!! whooO!!!!!!!!!! no points for you but thanks anyway!

I have put Ipod in restore mode and about 1/2 way through download it goes back to message "disabled type in passcode" ?? I have turned off all security and all trouble shooting ideas, any suggestions?? besides paying $$$$ to apple tech support

What appears to be happensin is that before the actual download finishes/restore starts. the recovery mode is timing out. I would do a manual download using the instructions here:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Then place the iPod in Recovery mode and restore using the instructions in the link.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you have been through ALL of the troubleshooting steps and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for investigation.

HELP! iPod Classic has "X" with a circle around it, and i cant put it in disc mode

Hello.... the iPod classic doesnt work anymore due to a "x with a circle around it". I tried putting it in disc mode and it wont come up on my computer screen and when I try to reset it, it still comes up with the "X" on the screen. I cant see the menu on it, and It wont work at all...

The RED X most likely indicate that your iPod hardisk is dying soon or already dead, the only solution is to have the Hardisk replaced, either by Apple or 3rd Party service vendor.
Some people have some luck, but banging the iPod on the rubber mouse pad, like myself, but after recovery, it only last above another 3 months, before the final RED X, when I got the hardisk replaced.
To check you hardisk health, read this earlier, excellent post from tt2, although it wont fix the RED X, it does gives you some idea, of whether to sent it in or make it an expensive paperweight.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode

You have to set the iPod to update all songs and playlists automatically. Not sure why, but that's how it works.

I plugged my ipod in to my computer in disk mode, to charge and i was loading...so then I left it while it was charging...came back about an hour later and computer was asleep so I unplugged my ipod to see if it was charged...thing was i forgot to eject it..so its locked up! HELP PLZ!!!

If you format iPod on Mac your iPod disk will save in Macintosh format and it will only use in Mac not for Windows (except you install some application to make Windows understand Mac OS X filesystem). But if you format in Windows (restore in iTunes on Windows) then you can use on both Mac and Windows.

I've followed all support steps and my ipod mini wont go into manual disk mode. The apple icon never leaves...I've downloaded update and tried everything. I just got this one from apple as a replacement as my old one stopped working too. This one worked for a week, then stopped too. Arghhhhh...any ideas?

So you don't see your iPod in Windows nor iTunes? You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #61711, which troubleshoots When Your Windows PC Doesn't Recognize iPod, Knowledge Base Document #301343 on iPod Not Recognized When Connected to Windows Laptop over USB, and "The Five Rs". Itunes put ipod into recovery mode. how do i get out

I was updateing my ipod and then my plug came out of the ipod. Now it says its in recovery mode and i have to restore it. Is there any way i can get out of recovery mode so i wont lose pictures and videos?

If this program will not get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore via iTunes and erase the iPod.
