CANT READ PDF FILES IN SAFARI
Was working great. I think I downloaded a .pdf reader. Now Safari won't open file. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. Do you have Tinker Tool on your system by any chance? That turned out to be my problem. I had followed the advice of other posters to 1. Look for the Adobe PDF plug-in in Library/Internet Plug-ins. (That was not on my system.) 2. Then I changed the default viewer for PDF files on my computer from Skim back to Preview. (Select any PDF file on your computer, press Command I, and change Open with to Preview, then select the Change All button.) That didn't help me either.
Then I remembered I had TinkerTool, and I solved the mystery, at least on my computer. Although I did an erase and install, I had then used Migration Assistant to copy over personal settings from my Firewire backup. Apparently one of these settings files was for TinkerTool. When I finally thought to launch TinkerTool today, I noticed that under Safari, the box next to “Disable native support for viewing PDF files” was checked. I unchecked that, relaunched Safari, and voila! Now Safari loads the PDF file in a browser window with the little PDF toolbar. I hope this works for you as well.

You will need PDF file reader application in you smartphone to read PDF files. But if you receive PDF files as email attachments then they'll open in your phone.

I can't read pdf files through Safari.
Just recently I cannot read pdf files from Safari. The file shows up as dark space. I don't know why? Guessing I changed something that caused it. Any ideas?
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -

Read PDF files in Safari on 10.5 --- HELP PLEASE!
I accidently deleted the Internet Plug-in to read PDF files in 10.5. The plug in is located in /Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
I believe it is called "Adobe Acrobat ???" (or something like this)
If someone could post it or e-mail it to me, I'd be one grateful person!

Thanks.you can download Adobe Reader for free from Adobe.com. It will read PDF files, you shouldn't need someone to email you a copy.

Hello all, I am trying to view a PDF file I had sent to me in gmail. When I click on the attachment it downloads the file but when I try to view the PDF file all the pages are white. I did a search on viewing PDF files and some posts said you can read PDF files in your emails while others said you have to buy a 3rd party app, im not against buying one I just want to make sure im not doing anything wrong. Any help is appreciated.
Not sure if there is something wrong with this particular PDF file, but I view PDF files sent as email attachments from within the received message on a regular basis. I exports estimates as a PDF file from an estimating software program that I use for my business so I can send an estimate as a PDF file to clients for viewing and printing.
I use a POP account for business, which doesn't provide for saving sent messages on the server, so I always Bcc: myself with the email to my MobileMe email address so I receive the estimates sent as a PDF attachment with my iPhone. This allows me to view the PDF files with my iPhone when a client calls to talk about an estimate, and I have a server stored mailbox for these estimates that I transfer the received email to for faster reference.
I've never had any problems viewing a received PDF file sent as an attachment by myself, or from others, so you don't need a 3rd party app for this. -
Safari 5.1.4 running under Lion (10.7.3) and the previous Safari version on Snow Leopard alyway tries to open a pdf file using the Quicktime plugin. This results is a mostly unreadable document. The previous versions didn't do that. If I go to Library/Internet Plugins and remove Quicktime plugin.plugin Safari works as before. Is there a way to fix this other than my brute force approach?
Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
Relaunch Safari and test. -
HT5730 Why is reading PDF files on Safari of OS X 10.8.4 still blurry?
This is my first time use of Mac laptop. I have 15" inches MBP with retina display. The Safari on older OS ( i do not remember the version number) has superb PDF reading experience. I thought it would be better with latest OS update but it is on the contrary, the texts r blurry even using Apple's original browser. I need to use Preview ( which i dun feel like a stand alone PDF reader). Acrobat X still doesn't support PDF files on retina display. Do you guys hv any idea? i m a college student, i purchesed Retina mainly for reading ebooks.

The Early 2011 Mac originally came with 10.6
10.7 and 10.8 are paid upgrades tied to the previous owners AppleID, therefore you can't apply security updates to that previous owners copy as you don't have their AppleID and password.
The object to go back to Snow Leopard 10.6 is so that when you upgrade to 10.8, it's yours and you can upgrade all your paid software and operating system through the AppStore concept.
Later, if you need to erase and install 10.8 fresh, then yes, you use Internet Recovery or RecoveryHD as then your AppleID and password will work as intended and there is no need to use the 10.6 disks any longer, they can be sold if you wish as you don't have 10.6 on the machine anymore. -
How do I read PDF files in Safari?
I am using Lion on a MacBook Pro and am unable to read any PDF doc's that I open while in Safari. All I get is a blank black page with no data on it.

Don SI tried opening the PDF docs while using Firefox and a notification came up to install the Schubert-it plug-in. I downloaded and installed the plug-in in Safari and I can now open PDF docs. Thanks for the help.

Cannot read PDF files with safari
Hello,
I cannot read my online magasine with my iPad.
When I open it as PDF with safari, I can read the first few pages but then it freezes and safari just shuts down. It's very frustrating!
There was a similar post to this in the Mac section where they suggest deleting all cookies, history and cache. I tried that but it does not solve the problem.
Any help welcome!It seems that the problem is due to safari crashing with memory overload.
I am very disappointed with the iPad. It would seem it is nothing but an overpriced toy. It's supposed to be the most amazing thing ever for accessing the Internet and yet I can't even read an online magazine. Should have thought twice before buying it. -

Deleting Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder and delete Adobe Reader Plug In (Finder-Home-Library-Internet Plug Ins---Adobe Reader plug In)
and restart your safari. -
Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore. It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version. Please help? I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.

The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -

Save the file locally, open the Reader application and try to open it from there. If it still doesn't work provide the full details of your OS, Reader version and the exact error message you're getting when you try to open the file.

I know you said you threw away the internet plug-ins, but you should double-check this since that is a very common cause of the behavior you describe.
