Cant receive text messages

I have the original iphone and up until yesterday I never had any problems with texting. Now all of a sudden, I can send text messages but I can't receive them. Any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated

Thank you for your response. Yes I reset it a few times. Last night i actually ended up calling AT&T and they said they think it may be a problem with my SIM card. They said they would ship me a new one free of charge. Although about 15 minutes ago i reset my phone again and received all of the texts I had missed at once. It seems like it only happens when receiving texts from Verizon users because i had my sister (also with AT&T) text me last night and i received it immediately. Could there be a problem between the two services?

Cant receive text messages after update

Updated my phone last night and now I can't receive text messages. I can send them but not receiving them. I share my account with my wife and I was receiving her text messages. When I go to iMessage, I can't select my own number. It is grey and not checked, but won't let me check it. I sign out of my account, and sign back in, and it shows the number checked when I sign in, but is not checked in the iMessage settings.

you might want to consider backing up your texts with Gmail so you can access them anywhere, instead of storing them on your phone.

Had an Iphone 4s switched to samsung galaxy s4. Now I cant get text messages from people with Iphones. Need help. Starting to get extremely mad and upset with apple products. HELP PLEASE

Speak with an AppleCare advisor either over the phone or by chat.
They will remove your phone number from the iMessage system. That's it! Otherwise after 45 days your phone nymber will automatically be removed from the system. Now or later, it's your choice.

Same thing happened to me what you have to do is go in to your account online and remove the iPhone as well as change your password.
I called tmobile about it and they told me it could take up to 45 days for it to configure correctly and you will get text messages I do that and it worked by removing my iPhone and changing my password
But I ended up getting an iPhone again anyway lol

Hi, I'm new to this but here i go. I have a 3GS Iphone that has the latest update. Recently the plan i had was a family plan and just a few days ago i split the two phones that was on my plan to be two separate plans (accounts). The other phone that was on my plan texts and receives texts perfectly, but as for my phone i cannot. I compose the text and send it but it never reaches the person. Also people call me asking why i am not texting them back so that means i cant receive texts either. I restored my phone twice already, one i restored it as my original phone then as a brand new phone and i still cannot receive or send texts. I havent gone to an apple store yet because they are closed right now but if someone knows how to fix this please let me know. Thank you, i appreciate it.

Initially it sounds like a setting with your carrier and the plan the iphone is on is not enabled for text messages by your carrier.
With the phone in a 'new' state and not working again indicates that it is probably a carrier issue.
Questions for you;
1. Was the iphone being used before the plan changed and was it sending and receiving texts fine then?
2. Did you receive a new SIM car for one or both of the phones when the plans changed?
3. If you swap the SIMs between the phones, does the issue follow the phones or does now the other phone have trouble with the texting?
If when swapping the SIMs the problem follows the iphone, then there maybe some problem with the phone.
If when the SIMs are swapped and the problem does not follow the phone, then the problem is with either the SIM or the carrier settings.

Hi lwatkins! Do you use the default messaging client on the phone or a custom application? Do you get an error message when the message comes in? If so, what does it say? Does the sender get some kind of alert that the message they sent cannot be delivered?

Follow this article: iOS: Deactivating iMessage - Support - Apple
If that doesn't work, contact Apple Support who can revoke the iMessage/Facetime certificate from association to your phone number.
Also:
1) Go to www.icloud.com and remove the device from Find My iPhone.
2) Go to appleid.apple.com and change the primary email address of your Apple ID to something different (per Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID).
3) Also at appleid.apple.com, change the password to your Apple ID (per Apple ID: Changing your password).
4) Have any iPhone user attempting to send you a text message do the following:
4a) Verify that in Settings > Messages that if iMessage is turned on to ensure that ‘Send as SMS’ is also turned on.
4b) Delete the existing message thread, if any.
4c) Delete your contact and readd, using only the phone number (no email).
4d) Attempt to send a new text message to you.

Incredible not receiving text messages

Ive had this phone for about a year and a half and to be honest i love... no major issues... only complaint would be it constantly tells me to free up space even tough it says over half my storage space available... weird
The problem i have now is I can't received text messages at all on my phone, sending texts and receiving/making phone calls/emails all work fine
I googled the problem and found a discussion where someone apparently said i can take in my phone and a get a refurbished incredible 2 for free.... ima go after i get off work and see if there's any truth in this
My wife has the droid 2 and HATES IT! and cant say i blame her - i tried to talk her out of it when we went to get new phones but no wife will ever listen to her husband (that advice is free) ... the keyboard doesnt work and now when she texts after every word the digital keyboard goes away so he she has to bring it up to text every word.... verizion stores just keep resetting the phone and the problem comes back within 12 hours... they refuse to replace the phone even though its still under warranty... wife wants an iphone now because apple customer service is the heat apparently... i told her just dont get a phone with a slide out keyboard because they notoriously suck...

brinface, I'm sorry you and your wife are experiencing issues with your Incredible. Messaging issues and keyboard problems can definitely be hard to deal with and cause frustration when using your device. In regards to messaging issues, you can check the messaging settings on your phone to ensure you enable the appropriate features. I will list the steps below to check all your messaging settings. I also recommend clearing the cache, browser history, and long message thread. I will list a link below with steps.

I can call out but all incoming calls are going directly to VM with no signal that I missed a call or have VM. I can send/receive text messages from other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users, I am assuming this is really "iMessage." Is it apple software?

I have spent hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T. I went thought reset, on/off, etc, etc with both companies to no avail. Each company pointed fingers at the other....as being the source of the problem.
Problems: Suddenly ALL incoming calls were going directly to VM with no signal I missed calls and/or had VM. I was also unable to receive all Text Messages...Oddly, I could send text messages to anyone (even non-apple users but I could not receive their responses)........then I when I got home I started receiving text messages from other apples users ONLY. I assume now - iMessage kicked in and I could text (send/receive) other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users ONLY. ....yes, I could still (send) text messages to my husband's blackberry (he received my messages fine) but my phone would NOT receive his text respones.
Finally, I googled the problem and found this community where other people have had the exact same problems! One person said he "turned off 3 G" which was the solution for him....so I did the same and VIOLA! My problem solved! Nevermind the fact that I pay for 3G and cannot use it....so here's my question, if 3G is the problem on my phone is this an APPLE issue or a NETWORK problem? Do I purchase a new phone and slip in my same SIM card and hope the same does not occur or do I get a whole new SIM card and phone? What is the long term resolution to this problem?
I am happy however to find that my problem is NOT an isolated incident and wish Apple or AT&T had told me this is not so uncommon because I thought (based on the baffled response from Apple) that this has never occurred before. Where is Steve Jobs when we need him?

LG Revolution not receiving text messages from iphone user

I am not receiving text messages from iphone user, sporatically. The messages are showing as reveived on Verizon website in usage detail, but not being received on my phone.

This issue needs fixed asap! I have a few suggestions that should help you get this resolved. If they are showing up in the usage details, that means they are hitting the Verizon network, but for some reason they are not showing up on the phone. I recommend clearing the cache from your messaging/text messaging programs. Go to settings> applications> manage apps> all> Messaging/Text Messaging> Force Stop/Clear Cache/Clear Data. Erase the old text threads that you have saved and retry.
If that doesn't work, please let us know the following:
1) Do they come in delayed or not at all?
2) Do you have any 3rd party messaging apps installed?
3) Do they have any problems receiving messages from you?
4) When they're sending messages, are they directly to you, or do you have this problem when the iPhone user sends to a group of people?

LG Revolution receiving text messages

I just got this phone on 7/1. It was all programmed and I started using it. I was both sending and receiving text messages. I noticed that since 7/3 I have not been receiving text messages. I can still send them. I am sure it is probably something I did, but have no clue. I powered the phone down (without battery removal) and powered back up. Still no texts receive.

Are you having issues receiving any text messages or receiving replies back to your text messages? I would try doing a soft reset on your device. Afterwards, send a message to a person asking them to reply back to your message. If the reply message does not come through, contact the person to ask what error messages did they see when they tried to send you a reply. Also, use this link to our website site. You can send yourself a message. If the message does not go through, it will give you back the results with an error message that will shed more light on the issue with posting back the results you observed. LG Revolution isn't receiving text messages?

I got my cell phone on Black Friday, I was so excited and no I am just frustrated. I don't receive text messages half the time and my phone randomly turns off and on. Is there anyway to fix the text message problem because as a young adult that is how I mostly communicate. Please and thank you.

I can understand why you're frustrated with the problems that you've listed. There are a few suggestions I can think of to ensure your issue is resolved. For the texting problem, are you using any 3rd party messaging applications? If so, please remove them and retest using the stock messaging application. If your device is resetting intermittently, I would recommend performing a factory reset on your Revolution. This will rule out any issues potentially caused by 3rd party applications.
You can also ensure that your software is up to date. You can check the current version of software here and see if your software is up to date.
