Cant remember my airport time machine password ?

Hi when i set up my Airport Time Capsule 2 TB , I inadvertently gave it a password but failed to record it and now I can't remember it and can't find a way to change it , clever eh, can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Soft reset.. press the reset button with a toothpick or unfolded paper clip for 1sec (that means between 1-3sec.. don't hold it too long as it will then cause a hard reset). The main LED should start flashing amber. You now have 5min to open the TC in the airport utility and fix the passwords since they all return to default.. ie public for admin access.
Remember this.. all security on the TC is illusion if the TC is available physically for reset pressing.

  • Reset Time Machine Password to Backup Using External Drive

I have been using Time Machine to backup my files regularly on an External drive. I usually backup my files (using Backup Now option) and then turn off Time Machine. I have been doing this successfully for a month on my new MacBookPro (late 2013 version, purchased 5 March 2014). I used this same procedure successfully since 2010 on a previous Macbook Pro I owned.
I just tried to backup my files, all of a sudden Time Machine now asks me for a password which I don't remember setting. Time Machine Preferences looks like this.
When I try to set Time Machine On I cannot do it (I used to be able to do it). When I click unlock and try to input my MacbookPro login username and password, but this login/password is not accepted.
Frankly, I have no idea what happened. I must have pushed the wrong button at some point. I don't mind losing my old backus and resetting the password on Time Machine software, provided I can and backup my files right away.
How can I reset the Time Machine password? Any help will be much appreciated.

    Dear Eric,
I am using a Western Digital Ultra external drive that I myself formatted Journaled. It is not encrypted.
I went to the keychain and I could not find the password for Time Machine. (Frankly, I am not sure where to look).
I also ran Keychain first aid and no problem was found. I also ran Keychain first aid repair and everything seems fine.
Tomorrow Monday I will call the repair shop, as I suspect they introduced a different password.
Many thanks for now. I will keep you posted.

  • I have a Airport Time Machine at my computer, a Airport Extreme in the kitchen, and I want to set-up my Airport Express in my second office.  How is this done so all show 4 bars on my iPhone?

I have a Airport Time Machine at my desk in the office with the router,  a Airport Extreme to have WiFI in the kitchen connected by my ethernet, and I have a Airport Express in my second business office connected to the ethernet thru a switch.
Will this all work?   And what is the best configuration?
Do I connect my Express to the Ethernet?  From the installation notes it seems I do, but I'm not sure?
Any help on these is appreciated?

  • How to see all back ups on Airport Time Machine?

I have lots of backups on an external HD.
Looking for a folder/file is easy because I can see all backuped folders and files in the folder set up I have decided upon.
I would like to see all my folders and files as these have backed up on Airport Time Machine. I just want to see these folders and files like this is the case on my external HD.
They must be placed somewhere on Time Machine.
    How can I see these?
I am not really interested in going into Time Machine Backups on a date related basis, but on a folder related basis.

I am not really interested in going into Time Machine Backups on a date related basis, but on a folder related basis.
Unfortunately, Time Machine is not really interested in working this way.  Apple takes the word "Time" in Time Machine seriously.
The best that you will be able to do is navigate to find a folder that you want on your Mac
Then, open Time Machine and use the timeline to see different versions of that folder

  • Hi, I am trying to connect a WD Mybook for Mac to my airport/time machine device.  On the AirPort Utility it listed under Disks at 0 Mb.  I enabled file sharing.  But nothing happens.  If I plug it directly into my MacBook it works fine.  How do I fix it?

I am trying to connect a WD Mybook for Mac to my airport/time machine device.  On the AirPort Utility it listed under Disks at 0 Mb.  I enabled file sharing.  And also followed all the steps - "secured disk access: with a disk passord", "Airport disk guest access: read and write", "Share disks over WAN". But nothing happens.  If I plug it directly into my MacBook it works fine.  How do I fix it?  Also, its connected via a powered usb hub.

I assume that you are using  Mac operating system 10.4.11, as your profile indicates.
The instructions that you referenced are for use with AirPort Utility....not AirPort Admin Utility.
Suggest that you download and install AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac , which will run on 10.4.11.
Also noticed that the instructions do not tell you that the hard drive should be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work with the AirPort Extreme, but they should.

  • Time Machine password does not work.

    Hi all,
I have just bought a 2TB WD mybook external hard drive and now need to set time machine to use it as my backup. This is the first time I have used time machine and it will not accept my password. PUBLIC doesn't work either.
Is there a way I can reset or recover my time machine password?

Time Machine doesn't have a password.
That must be a password on the external HD.  If you haven't put anything on it yet, your best bet is to erase and reformat it, per #5 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Why is my airport time machine beeping every 30 seconds?

For some reason my airport time machine started to beep every 30 seonds or so.  I down loaded the latest firmware (7.7.2) but still have the two beeps every 30 seconds.
It still seems to back up my MacPro and I have the internet.

Find out by opening the status on the airport utility summary page when you highlight the TC. There is no way of figuring it out except via the utility. What does it list is the problem.

  • HT201250 where can i find the time machine password

Where can i find the time machine password?

    There is no such thing.
If you're backing-up to a network drive (Time Capsule, NAS, etc.), that drive may have a password.
If you're backing-up to an encrypted external HD, you'll need the encryption password.
Please clarify what version of OSX you're running (your profile says Leopard, but you've posted in the Lion forum), what you're backing-up to, and exactly what message you're getting and when (a screenshot would be fine).

  • HT3275 I forgot my Time Machine password.  Any ideas on how to reset or recover?

Any thoughts on how to reset my Time Machine password?

Exactly which password are you referring to?
People often use Time Machine and Time Capsule interchangeably.. but one is software and the other is hardware.
Time Capsule password can be recovered or reset without difficulty.. Time Machine in later encrypted version.. no, the backup is rendered useless as Kappy says. There is no point having a password if there is a backdoor.
Apple clearly warns if you encrypt a backup.. do not lose the password.

  • What do I do if i can't remember the password to get into my airport time machine.

The hard drive on laptop died and was replaced. I want to use my backup to restore but can't remember the password to the Time Machine.

You mean the password because you encrypted your backups or your wifi password? If encrypted backups, I think you are really really out of luck but hope others can help. It is my understanding that without that password, there is nothing you can do with your backups or even access them from another computer, that's the purpose of encrypting them.

  • Can't remember my Time Capsule (Time Machine) password

    Hi Everyone,
I have a first generation time capsule. I also back up my Macbook Pro. I recently backed up my Macbook pro since I want to buy a NEW Macbook Pro.
Now that I have my NEW macbook pro, I can't MIGRATE my data and info since I can't remember my Time Capsule password. It just automatically backs up my old Macbook pro.
Help! I want the new macbook pro to be exactly like this old one I have.
    I have Yosemite and updated.
    Appreciate all the help!
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    glnikolai

    Hi glnikolai,
If you still have your old MacBook Pro available, you should be able to migrate your data directly from that machine to your new MacBook Pro, as outlined below:

  • I can't connect to the drive on my airport time machine and am receiving the message: "AirPort Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Time capsule has been working perfectly for months.
Suddenly I can't connect to the drive on my airport time capsule and am receiving the message: “AirPort Time Capsule” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Time machine appears to be still backing up (last backup within the last hour), but drive is not visible and I have files stored on it.
I have tried rebooting everything in order as suggested for other issues, anyone got any ideas how to see the drive again??

    What OS are you running??
It is very typical Yosemite issue.
    1. In airport utility does the TC show up.. if so click it.. and see the summary page which will include its IP address. That is what you are after.
From my screenshot you can see the TC address is 192.168.2.57
It might well show up briefly after a reboot or in ipad / iphone version utility. Yosemite is hopeless. The airport utility hardly works.
    2. In Finder use Go, Connect to server.
Type in SMB://192.168.2.57 (replace with IP you discover).
If it is possible it will request a password.. type that in and DO NOT FORGET.. to store it in your keychain.
This will work until the TC changes IP which won't happen if it is main router.. but will happen if it is bridged.. so you need to tell me the whole network setup.
Mavericks is nearly as bad and the above instructions should be universal except I would use AFP instead of SMB. Apparently Yosemite is now totally Windows oriented.
