Cant restore locked iphone

just got an iphone 4 from my dad that is disabled due to too many incorrect passcode entries. no one knows the original password. i have tried restoring the phone several times and no luck. i have installed all available software updates for my mac and itunes, restarted the computer, and i still get the error message "this device isn't eligible for the request build" when trying to restore it. i have also gone into terminal and corrected the gs.apple.com line, and tried a different computer and get the same error. i cannot find any third-party security software on my computer in utillities that needs adjusted either. i am running Mac OS X 10.5.8. ...do i upgrade to 10.6? ...can i take my phone into the apple store to have it restored?
This is driving me crazy!! Please, is there any other way i can restore this iphone???

You need 10.6.8 to restore the phone, & iTunes 11.1. So, the easiest thing to do until you upgrade the computer is to make an appointment at any Apple store & have them restore the phone.
You won't be able to sync until you do update the computer.

It's 99% sure theat the iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to use another carrier or downgrading IOS. There's no help with this.

Then I get the message that an "unknown problem has occured" after a while in the process. When I push the ON/OFF button I get the connect-to-Itunes-picture and the same restore message pops up. If you have forgotten the passcode you will have to restore to operation by using the recovery mode to attach to a computer running iTunes, per the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 and in summary:
Doing that will erase all content and settings which you can only restore from a backup. In your case it sounds as thought you will have to redownload your apps and music, etc. since your computer is no longer functioning.

Trying to restore locked iPhone, but it's asking me to turn of Find My Phone

Hi, i got locked out of my iPhone because i stupidly changed my passcode and didn't write it down. Now i'm trying to go through the restore process as Apple says you need to (Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support) and restore it from a backup but I'm getting a message that i need to go into my iPhone settings and turn off Find My Phone in order to restore the iPhone. If I'm locked out of my phone, how am I supposed to do that?

Hey there
1. Turn the phone off off & disconnect it from the computer.
2. Press and hold the home button (Round one on the front)
3. Connect it to the computer again with the home button still pressed.
4. Follow iTunes instructions on screen.
Hopefully you have a backup!!
This will start the phone in recover mode and you'll be able to factory reset it. It will ask you to enter your apple ID and password after the phone has been restored so it can activate.
