Cant revert back to Win 98 after Win XP

I have been running Win XP Pro on my MSI KT133a Pro mobo.  Been running well, but I play Everquest.  And Everqeust(EQ) does NOT like Win Xp any thing.  SO, I was told to reformat and reinstall Win 98, and dual boot to WIn XP.  Ok cool.  So I format, and proceed to install Win 98.  Well, after about 10 attempts, I cant get Win 98 to load.  I get the 2nd blue install screen and i get errors saying cant write to disk, fatal exemption, you name it.  So, I try Win Xp again it installls perfect.  But that is not what I want. I need Win 98 back on it.  So I try again, same results no go will not install.  Ok, I go to antoher machine get it to install Win 98. I finally get Win 98 installed.  I change back over to the MSI mobo machine (was Win XP but now, via a differnet pc trying WIN 98 on it now), i start the machine up.  Cool it boots get screen welcome to windows etc, I start to load drivers.  Video first,  BUT, I cant get my AGP drivers to work now.  PCI fine, AGP no go.  I did download the latest 4.33 version of VIA 4in1 drivers from this site and I installed.  Once they load, PC starts to enter a LOOP reboot after I see the Splash Win 98 screen.  I cant even boot into safe mode.  All I get is Splash screen, reboot, splash screen , reboot, etc etc etc.
I have taken all hardware out ther than memory, video and hard drive/cpu of and stil same problem.  Only way I get win 98 installed is by using a different motherboard!  What the heck??!  SO, I take harddrive out, put it on another athlon machine, and oh my it loads. hmmm.. put it back on my MSI board, reboot reboot reboot.
It appears my MSI board will now only accept Win XP Pro as its OS.  How can this be?  How can I fix the board to forget Win XP was ever on it?  Any of you out there have same problem?  Win ME does the same thing, no go.
BTW, i HAVE reset bios, updated BIOS with newest from this site, taken battery out, unplugged machine, tried a different processor, tried 4 different harddrives, tried  PCI vid, tried 3 diff AGP cards, I have run out of ideas.  PLEASE help me!!!
System:  Athlon XP 1900+

               1.3 gb SDRAM PC 133

Western Digital Caviar 7200 80G harddrive
                Hewlet Packard 9200i CD ReWriter
                Toshiba 3.5" floppy
(now these are what are noarmally in machine during the time I had Win Xp PRo on it.  I have tried all kinds of different parts in this machine even changed out ram trying to get mobo to forget it was ever an XP Machine)
Please any suggs!!!!

When you fdisked the drive did you also do an fdisk /mbr
If XP  is hiding anything like a boot loader it could be there.
Also try using another hard drive if you have one laying around dosent have to large just enough to install 98 on.
If you can do that then you know its something up with that hard drive as oposed to the Mobo.
Also if you can get your hands on the latest partition magic ive heard that xP does some nasty things to hard drives if you use their new formating for the drive.

    Hey Bakak,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you keep getting a message to authorize your computer when trying to transfer applications to your iPhone. Here is an article on things that may cause this. I suspect that the section "Authorize using the correct account name" may be most relevant. It is possible that you have multiple Apple IDs and iTunes accounts.

  • Is reverting back to photoshop CS6 after a CC subscription possible ?

I am considering to use to subscribe to the photoshop CC + lightroom 5 offer. I have a full photoshop CS6 lisence so I can use this offer.
If for some reason I decide to stop my subscription after a year can I still revert back to my photoshop CS6 perpetual license ? Or do I lose the right to do this once I subscribe to creative cloud?
I realize that in practice there might be compatibility issues with files I modified with photoshop CC, when i want to open them in the "old" cs6, but my question is about the license only.
My apologies if this question has been asked before.

Yes, perpüetual licenses never run out - like forever.

  • Facetime reverted back to older version after Lion install.

I purchased Factime from App Store and after upgrading to Lion OS, it has been reverted back to Version 1.1. App store is asking me to purchase it back again to upgrade it to V 1.2. Does it mean for every bug fix and version upgrade i have to pay apple $1.03.

lol what are you talking about? The one with LION is 1.1 The one in the app store right now is 1.02 not 1.2
Anyway, you can always download the app again anytime as long as you purchased it once. (though the button said buy, but dont worry, they wont charge you again).
Though if you have Lion, it wont let you reverse back to the older version of 1.02 since you have 1.1

  • Apple Mail (7.3, OSX Mavericks) reverts back to default settings after close.  How to fix this?

For example, if I choose Mail->Preferences->Viewing->Use classic layout, it reverts just fine when the program is open.  However, when I quit out of the program and then reopen it, Apple Mail reverts back to its default styling.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Can I revert back to Snow Leopard after upgrading to Lion?

I would like to install Lion over my current Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installation but I have some concerns that I may not like it.  If for some reason, I want to revert back to SL, can I use a Time Machine backup to return to my former OS?

Yes.  Just boot up from your Snow Leopard DVD, and restore the last Time Machine backup that was made before you installed Lion.

  • How do I revert back to Iphoto '11 after an unexpected library migration to Photos app

The 10.10.3 Yosemite update unexpectedly migrated the iPhoto '11 library to the new Photos app format.  I have 15,000+ pictures and prefer iPhoto.  How to revert back?

    casablanca 24
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Crystal report reverts back to saved data after drill down

    Hi,
I've created a crystal report and published it to BOE. Whenever I open the report and refresh it, it fetches recent data without any problem. But when I drill down in the report, it shows the saved data instead of showing the recent data in the drill down. If I come back to original report from that drill down again it reverts back to saved data. Again I've to refresh the report to view the recent data.
Any idea how can I fix this?

  • Reverting back to win 7

MY DELL DESKTOP COMPUTER CAME WITH WINDOWS 7 O/S. I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 8 AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS SINCE UP LOADING WINDOWS 8. HOW CAN I RETURN TO THE WINDOWS 7? I BELIEVE IT IS STILL ON THE COMPUTER.

    Hi,
You need have a Windows 7 installation media and valid product key.
If you get ready for that, backup all your personal file. And then do a clean installation.
After you finish installing Windows 7, restore your personal file to Windows 7.

  • Reverting back to CS2/DW8 after CS3/DW3 trial expires

I tried installing trial DW9 while DW8 was open and was asked
to close DW8, from which I surmise that the trial "replaces" DW8
rather than running independantly of it. Is this correct or will I
be able to run both the trial and my licenced DW8 "simultaneously".
(i'm win xp in case that makes a diff.)
If not "simultaneously", will I at least be able to just
uninstall the trial DW9 and be reverted to DW8 or will I have to
    reinstall CS2/DW8?
    Gary

They are - these products always install as stand-alone and
    independent
    applications.

  • User folder has reverted back to "new user" after Finder crash

A co-worker here was working on his Dual G5 (10.3.9) tower when his finder froze up. After not getting any reaction from the computer, he held down the power button until the computer shutoff. After restarting, it restarted fine with his user but all settings have been reset to those for a default user and all of his files, documents, desktop, dock settings, email and work is gone. It is the same thing you get when you create a new user and login.
The HD icon has been replaced with that of the orangish-install package. Right now I have shut down the computer because, even though the data is technically still on the HD, the HD may think that the space where it is stored is available to be written over. Any tips? I can get most of his stuff from the back up tapes but it will take a long time (OMG, thank you Retrospect). Anybody had a similar problem before? This is bizarre.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nathan:
It never happened to me but I feel that the login data is still lurking somewhere.
Have you already tried "Log out user"... and log-in again? But if you are afraid to touch anythinmg, then here is a link to Applejack that may correct the situation:

  • How to revert back to iMovie 9 after reinstalling Mavericks?

    Good Day All,
I recently had to reinstall my OS (OSX Mavericks) for my MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2012 Model. Prior to this, I had iMovie 10 (yuck), AS WELL AS the old iMovie, which had remained behind in my applications folder (iMovie 9).
Before I reinstalled the OS, I made sure to copy the iMovie 9.0.9 application to my hard drive, and once a clean OS was installed, I made sure to drag iMovie 9.0.9 back to my applications folder and run it, however I am met with an error:
iMovie 9.0.9 has failed to start (not the exact words I cannot remember, as now whenever I launch it the icon pops up in my dock and than a split second later disappears)
Is there anyway I can get iMovie 9.0.9 back after a clean OS install?
I already downloaded this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1574 (the iMovie 9.0.9 update), however it fails to work, as the only iMovie I have on my machine is the horrible iMovie 10, and it required an older iMovie to update too.
Any help at all will be very appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Can I revert back to release 5 after installing rel 6

I installed itunes release 6 (I know, I know)and have had system instability (automatic reboots)on XP Sp2. How can I get a copy of release 5 to reinstall?
    Appreciate any help. GuitarMan

Well after doing this and yes restarting my computer etc. it took 2 minutes for itunes to start up
yuck. that shouldn't be happening. i get a 10-second start up on a good-but-two-year-old PC using itunes 6.0.0.18.
hmmm. okay, other possibilities. see the listing of itunes and QT processes given in the "Lorraine" technique:
    Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 12:51am Oct 17, 2005 CDT
    ... head into MSCONFIG:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
... and check to see if any of the processes/startup items from that list that show up in your startup items happen to have been disabled.
it might also be worth experimenting in there to see if there's a conflict between itunes/QT and one of your other start-up itmes.
    love, b
