Cant run virtual machine
I loaded windows with bootcamp and made a partition and it runs fine. I understand I can open it from leopard os if I install fusion, which I have done. I went into fusion and tried to make a virtual machine with the exisiting windows xp. I cant.
Little help here please.
Jeff
It means that via Netbios communication, a machine of the same "Machine Name" was found in the same Windows Workgroup. You should never have the same machine name in the same workgroup for windows.

How do I run virtual machine on my MacBook Pro running Lion?
I am trying to run virtual machine 7 on my Mac so that I can use windows 7 for some school projects. Whenever I try to run it I ger error messages saying this is not supported. Are there any patches?
Whenever I try to run it I ger error messages saying this is not supported.
When you try to run what? The Windows program?
There are several virtualization options available... Parallels, VMware's Fusion, and VirtualBox. Each of these will require that you have a copy of Windows to install. VirtualBox is free and fully functional. It's not as polished as the other for-pay options, but it's the only one I use. Any one of these utilites creates an environment in which you can install Windows within OS X. -
JInitiator 1.3 Fatal Error Attachment to a running Virtual Machine failed
We are running forms 9i from 9ias R2. We have an outside client trying to access the application from a machine with Windows XP. They receive the following errror after downloading the Jinitiator 1.3.1.9: JInitiator 1.3 Fatal Error - Attachment to a running Virtual Machine failed. As we are using Windows 2000, we have not come across this before and I find nothing on Metalink.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, do you have a solution?Hi,
whatever browser you are running, during installation of the Browser (Netscape 7.x) or IE (postinstall) you decided to make teh Java Plugin 1.4 your default JVM. This means the VM is started when JInitiator loads which then leads to this collision. Disable Java Plugin as a default VM and it shoudl work fine.

Attachment to a running virtual machine failed
I get the error message "Attachment to a running virtual machine failed" when trying to instantiate my active x bundled java bean.
The steps I took to create it are:
javac Person.java
jar -cvfm PersonBean.jar person_manifest Person.class
set JRE=D:\Applications\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_01
set classpath=%JRE%\lib\rt.jar;%JRE%\lib\jaws.jar
java sun.beans.ole.Packager
Then I answered the questions on the packager.
When I try to create the bean from inside my application, I get an error dialog with the title "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error".
When I try to create MSCal.Calendar in my application, all is well.
Anyone know what is happening?If you run the packager, try not to register the
newly created type library (*.TLB) immediately,
but let the packager create the registry instructions
(a *.REG file).
Look at the *.REG file and check all references to
virtual machines. Since you are using the packager
from 1.3.1, probably the virtual machine (path for beans.ocx etc) points to the 1.3.1 JRE instead of the
1.4 plugin.
Make sure, all references to the virtual machine are
linked correctly to 1.4 and reregister your TLB.
Hope that helps and please let us know if you were
successful, as this would indicate that indeed, beans
packaged with the packager from 1.3.1 can run in the
1.4 plugin. Sylvia -

This is because the HA system doesn't know you issues a powerff/shutdown command. It just sees the guest disappear, so it restarts it. -
Total noob Q: Can I run virtual machines on a MacBook Pro ?
My apologies for entering totally green, folks. My last Apple was the first Mac I bought in university, sold quickly, and preceded by a bunch of ]['s. Sadly, I have been living under a rock for 20 years, and just this year spent $200k at IBM for servers etc in a pro capacity ...
My problem is that I am not gonna buy one more piece of lame Lenovo garbage ever again, and I need a new notebook.
The time has come where I am considering the change. I'd enjoy it really, to crawl out of this shell.
Because I am a total noob, the answer to my question is probably so easy for you folks ...
I need to keep Windows for now. I need to run Linux. I need to VM a few Novell 6.5 servers as I transition them to SUSE, and I have precisely zero MacOS apps at the moment.
With this said, does it make sense to consider a fully optioned MacBook Pro to take the place of a highest-end Thinkpad, to do the above (and more), using a Virtual Machine technology ?
My first months with a Mac would probably be spent in virtual machines as I get with the program, but I really do want to get out of this situation that nobody makes a good PC anymore and the best Wintel box seems to a Mac.
I want to believe. Please help me.check

How much ram does the farm need when running virtual machines
Hello Community
When running Hyper-V you need more RAM to assign to each virtual machine.
Approximately how much ram needs to be assigned to each virtual machine?
Thank you

What will Sigar Api reflect (CPU, Memory) when run Virtual Machine
Hi,
I am using sigar api for a module. The Module will be deployed on machines which are virtual machines.
i.e. a part of whole system resource (CPU, RAM etc.) will be allocated to the VM by the OS.
If Sigar is run on VM system, will it give the result for resources allocated for VM or for the System/OS as a whole?
Please reply if any info is available, this is very urgent.
ThanksVery interesting. I'll have 30-40 VMs running, all Generation 2. I notice a significantly faster start time on the Generation 2 than on any Generation 1. Generally it starts in a couple seconds.
It looks like you are using dynamic memory. What sort of value do you have for startup memory? Have you tried using fixed memory (just for a test)? I tend to use fixed memory for my VMs.

Can Hyper-V run in a virtual machine?
Ok, we all know (or should know) that Microsoft's answer is a plain "No!".
But we also know that recent hypervisors can support nested/recursive virtualization, provided the underlying CPU offers hardware virtualization; VMware's recent products (ESXi 5, Workstation 8) even support this natively,
without the need for ugly hacks.
So, my question is: can Hyper-V run succesfully (i.e. allowing to actually run virtual machines) inside other hypervisors?
If yes, which ones? And how?Yes, it can, if the underlying CPUs support the latest virtualization extensions (Intel VT-X/EPT) and if you're using VMware products at least (Workstation 8, ESXi 5).
The relevant settings in your VM should be as follows:
monitor.virtual_mmu = "hardware"
monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware"
vhv.enable = "TRUE"
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE"
The first three settings can be enabled via GUI (where exactly varies slightly between Workstation and ESXi), the last one needs to be manually added to the VM's .vmx file.
Additionally, on ESXi 5, you need to add the following line to /etc/vmware/config:
vhv.allow = "TRUE" -
