Cant save project in iMovie...

I save the project in iMovie then close the file. When I reopen the project files have been placed in the trash resulting in my havine to re-add the video clips and still pictures - re-adjust the audio used in the slide show.
Again I save the project before closing out.
Is there a step im missing???

Hello, buddyhat,
Welcome to the discussions.
As per Sue's post above, are you sure your external drive is Mac formatted?
You can recover your iMovie's last save, so don't save again or iMovie will save as it is now, with all the clips in its trash, and you will not be able to recover the last save. Follow the directions given by Karl Petersen in this thread:

Post back if that does not help.

i just bought the app pease any help thanks.

In addition to greule's helpful post, I have posted several screenshots to illustrate this process.
    1. As you can see below, Tap the Share button, then Save to Camera Roll (you can also select upload to creative cloud, or share, etc). For this demonstration, I have selected the "Save to Camera Roll".
    2. The Save to Camera Roll dialog will appear, prompting you to select the photo or photos you would like to save. Select your photo(s).
    3. Once photo(s) are selected, select the file type you would like to save. In this case, PNG.
    4. When done, Tap OK.
I hope this helped you, please post back with any questions. In addition there is a helpful tutorial on how to save for Facebook, or Photoshop.

  • How do I save project in IMovie 3.0.3

I am tearing my hair out. I can't load footage into the Mac with IMovie 4.0.1, and I can't save project in the Mac with IMovie 3.0.3. I work for an hour (or now for a minute) and CAN'T save the project. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks. I can save project with 4.0.1, but I can't load footage into it, and it isn't as easy as you would think to schlep the hard drive around. Marcia

    What's the error message?
You must save to a Mac-formatted drive, not a PC-formatted drive.

  • Can't save projects in iMovie

    I keep getting this message:
    Cannot Save Changes
Please check the disk to ensure there is enough free space and you have permission to write projects. iMovie will try to save periodically, but your changes will be lost if you quit iMovie before the problem is resolved.
I have already "repaired permissions" in the Utility Disk and it's still not allowing me to save my project.
    What can I try next?

  • Does FCPX auto save projects like iMovie does?

One thing I don't love about iMovie. Is the way everything is auto saved. You can't choose to save or cancel your changes like other apps. Please tell me FCPX doesn't do this, or if it does, there is a way to disable that.

I hated it at first, but now I love it. As Floridajo says, you can duplicate a project if you really want to but as long as you have a reliable backup system, you don't need to do this. FCP X's Autosave is generally very reliable indeed. There were some issues with autosave not working in the original version of the app, but in 10.02 (current one) it works very well.

  • Cant save project

Adobe Premiere Elemets 8 for windows vista 32 bit with 4 gb of RAM  I have been trying to save my project in varuious formats like windows Media HD 1080i 30 and MPEG H.264 1920x1080i 30 and it only saves a buit of the movie, its laggy, the audio isnt good and it always says : export error unknown error error compiling movie. I Tried to cut it into different parts with the workarea only but that didnt work either... PLEASE HELP

What kind of camcorder is your original video coming from? When you set up your project, which project settings did you select? Matching your project settings to your source video is vital to efficient performance.
If you are only outputting a segment of your video project, make sure that the Work Area Bar (the light gray bar along the top of your timeline) is over your entire project. To ensure this, press the \ key (above the Enter key) to display your entire project and then double-click on the Work Area Bar. It should automatically extend to cover your entire project.
As for outputs, how well a hi-def output plays depends on the speed of your computer. A hi-def Windows Media file almost always plays like crap on all but the fastest computers. But you should be able to output a standard definition WMV Windows Media file to test your video. (I know you want to see it in hi-def, but until you get the bugs worked out, you should test it in standard def.)
Beyond that, we'd need to know more specifics about your computer, including how fast the processor is and how much RAM you have.
Version 8 was probably the poorest performing of any version of Premiere Elements. (Though make sure you go to Help/Check for Updates to ensure you have the patch. It will help tremendously.) But, on a good quad core computer, you should still be able to work with hi-def fairly effortlessly.

  • How can I save and recover projects in iMovie 09?

I created a (slide show) project for the first time in iMovie 09, sent it to iTunes and then closed iMovie. The instructions said it should have automatically saved my work, but hwhen I opened iMovie again, the project was empty. When I go to the Finder and then Movies, then iMovies, then click on the project and do Get Info, it says it is 78 MB and that it was modified at the date and time I modified. If I right click and choose Show Package Contents, there is a folder there is  quick time file with  with the slides I used and a folder with the mv4 file. but the iMovie file is still blank.
Why did iMovie not save the project? And is there some way to recover the project?
    Many thanks for any help.

I don't think you can import a FCP X project to iMovie, but if I am wrong I guess someone will correct me.

  • Imovie 11 on macbook pro get error message cannot save project changes

imovie 11 on macbook pro get error message cannto save project changes:
Please check the disk to ensure there is enough free space and you have permission to write projects. iMovie will try to save periodically, but your changes will be lost if you quit iMovie before the problem is resolved.  I have 462 GB disc space available.  I don't know about "permission to write projects".

OK - bad luck about that. I hope you weren't too far advanced into your project. Sorry to hear that repairing permissions didn't help.
When working on a long project, it's advisable to duplicate the project from time to time. In Project Library view click on your project then select File>Duplicate Project from iMovie's menu. A number will be appended to the name of the duplicate, otherwise you can rename it. A short-cut is to control-click (or right-click) on the project name, then select Duplicate Project from the pop-up menu. Duplicating doesn't take up much extra space, as the project points to the clips in the Event (or Events) and doesn't contain actual video as such (it's basically a text file which also holds information about your edits, added photos, music, titles and so forth).
Also, it's best to have a backup, such as Time Machine. It gives you peace of mind when things go wrong!

  • When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

The latest version (iMovie 10) doesn't have iMovie projects and iMovie events folders - these were for iMovie 9 and earlier.   In iMovie 10 Projects are in Events and Events are in Libraries.  When you quit iMovie the current status of your projects and events are automatically saved in the library so there is nothing to do.  The default location for libraries is in ~ / Movies folder but you can put them anywhere, such as on an external drive .  If you want to backup the library you can make a copy of it on a separate disk or memory stick using the Finder.

  • IMovie 09 doesn't save changes to iMovie 08 project - Help

After having issues with trying to export my project in iMovie 08 I have just installed iMovie 09 but when I make changes (eg, Use the map of the World to display our travel) and close iMovie 09 down, the changes aren't saved.
Also, I tried to copy and paste the project into a new one and it selects the movies, pictures & transitions but not the audio files. Can this be done? When I try to duplicate the project I get an error saying that I don't have the permissions to do it although I am the author and administrator.
    Pls Help.
PS, my first Mac, my first movie project, my first grey hairs.

This month a brand new version of Final Cut (named Final Cut Pro X) will be released by Apple. It will retail for $US299 and will remain as a fully professional product - but now available at a reasonable price for the prosumer and general user (google final cut pro x).
Your camera definitely should work with iMovie. I viewed a YouTube video earlier today that was shot with the Nikon Coolpix L110 and (clearly) edited in iMovie (not sure if it was '09 or '11). It was this one:

Possibly there is a glitch with iMovie. Try deleting the preference file. Close iMovie, then in Finder locate the file named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist" in your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences. Drag the file to the Desktop. When opened, iMovie will rebuild the .plist file with the default settings which can be changed if desired in iMovie's menu item iMovie>Preferences.
If all works OK, drag the original .plist file to the Trash. The file can become corrupted in some circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly or is Force Quit. Deleting the file will not harm existing Events or Projects but may fix iMovie's odd behaviour.
It will be well worth upgrading to iMovie '11 - it has many new and enhanced features and can be purchased from the Mac App Store at a very reasonable price ($AUD17.99)
    John
PS If possible, try your camera with iMovie at an Apple retail outlet. If it works there, then there is something amiss on your Mac. Perhaps try a different User Account on your Mac.

  • Creating a new project in imovie '09

    Good afternoon.
When a user creates a new project in iMovie '09 it gets put into the user's Movies folder. This is fine on a stand-alone, but with Network Home Directories it's not, because of the bandwidth needed to transfer files across our network. Is there any way for the user to decide where their new project is to be stored please?

I also successfully created a still frame to a new project I created for this purpose.
Move to a frame in your EVENT, control left-click and select "Add Still frame to project" from the pop-up menue. It will be added at the END of your selected project.
After that, I am still trying to find a way to save that still to iPhoto'09 as a photo.

  • Creating a new project in imovie

I have a project that is having a lot of issues playing back in full screen...iMovie 11'...it is running over an hour, I have a suspicion it is the audio (voiceovers and such)...how do I save, finalize, or move half the movie so that i can create 2 halves? I am assuming that in doing so, I can alleviate the size and perhaps create a first and second half...does this sound correct or is there a way to help this in the current project?
    thanks!

You have to update iMovie 9 projects to iMovie 10 from within iMovie 10 before they will appear in iMovie 10 as iMovie 10 uses a completely different project/event file system.  After updating you can still work on projects in iMovie 9 but you won't see any changes made in iMovie 10 and you can't transfer them back.
I would have a good look at the iMovie 10 help files first since a lot is changed and some features have been discontinued that might be important to you.
In order to try out iMovie 10 on just one of your iMovie 9 projects, put the folders just for that project in a separate iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folder and hide the project and event folders containing the projects you don't want to update from iMovie 10 by enclosing them in a higher level folder (only projects and events folders in the Movies folder of the boot drive or at the root level of another drive or partition will be visible to iMovie).
I did it this way and I'm glad I didn't try to update evrything at once!

  • Cant save or save as or export in motion 3!!!

this ***** I cant save or save as or export in motion 3!!! what is the deal anyone know how to fix this problem???

WOW!! Thanks so much, I've been banging my head against the wall for several days now thinking, was it something I did, reinstalling like five times, getting chewed at by my supervisor because the project wasn't completed, etc.... and all along it was Shapeshifter. I was about to call it quits and do the project in after effects, but thanks to your post I can still streamline the motion graphics portion of the project with FCP and Motion. Thanks again, you really saved me!!

  • Movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project in imovie 9 it works fine

movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project
in imovie 9 it works fine and there i cant copy 5 different project into new project
but in imovie 11 i only can copy project with option dubler project?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion
