Cant "see" external ADSL modem [D-link model DSL-500B]
Hi guys!
Im here in poor Brazil, and I just bought a new DSL-500B external ADSL modem, and I can make this machine turn to router, to stop login every time I turn on the computer.
The manual says that the IP is 192.168.254.254, but Firefox and Safari cant "see"... I ping, and cant find... I tracerout to a google site and the modem dont appear, its invisible!
Im properly conected on web... But I have this little problem...
I dont know what to do...

In order to support ADSL2+ on a pre ADSL2+ router and in preparation for a later migration to BT infinity I am trying to configure the Router using an external adsl2+ modem appropriately.
The original configuration had 3 ports configured as one (internal lan) vlan and bridge group together with one wireless sub-interface, the remaining port configured a second vlan and bridge group with a second wireless sub- interface. The Dialer was a member of the second bridge group. This way the second wireless interface and associated bridge group provided a kind of DMZ for outbound access.
The configuration I am attempting is similar the lan ports remain the same, but port 0 as a member of the vlan and bridge group (now a pppoe client) associated with one of the wireless sub interfaces as per above. The ATM interface is downed. This nearly works except that if the wireless subinterface on this bridge group is configured the dialer no longer dials giving a 'no dialer string' error. If I do not configure that wireless sub interface all works well.
If anyone is interested to look I would appreciate any comments. I enclose a sanitised config in which you will note the 'commented out' wireless subnet interface (in red).

Apologies delay in replying. I have done the following:
Made two of the FE ports vlan1,BVI1 (for LAN traffic)
Left one port as VLAN10 as the pppoe client conected to the externalmodem
Made the last port VLAN10 as well and gave it an IP addess as for a DMZ client.
I have DHCP configured to serve the DMZ addresses.
This all works for LAN clients and also works for a client attachedto that physical DMZ port.
When I added a dot11radio sub interface into VLAN 10 the wireless client did not get an IP lease. Everything else continued to work.
I had never thought about this before, but if a dot11radio interface is on the same vlan (but not being part ofa bridge group) why are DHCP broadcasts not propogating to all the vlan members as I would have expected. I recognise that this isa limit in my understanding.
If I then made VLAN10 a member of a new Bridge Group, I lost WAN connectivity as per original posting.
I cannot add another VLAN due to the 2 vlan limit in this image.
Finally regarding your comment about giving it what it wants, what exactly did you have in mind. The dialer already has a dial string parameters configured.
Think I am about to give upon this.

Wireless sometimes cant see a particular modem

Maybe this subject was discussed here before but I couldnt find any related topic. Here is the problem: Sometimes I can reach a particular modem for 3, 4 hours which uses WEP, but after that I lose my connection and even cant see that modem anymore. Infact there is no problem with Networkmanager, I can see other wireless modem but that particular modem wasnt seen by my laptop. How can I fix this problem or which log helps me to figure out problem?

ADSL modem D-Link DSL-G684T slow down my system

I`m using Archlinux [core dump] with GNOME 2.20 and from yesterday I have got new modem-D-Link DSL-G684T.. When I plug Eth0 connector and internet is up, system is totaly slow!!! I try this on machine with Windows XP- Here work all fine. What is the problem? Some wrong settings? Is here some special setting for Linux machine?This is my /etc/resolv.conf:

Cant see external Hard Drive connected to TC

Love my TC but still cant get it to work as I want. I will list my challenges seperatley.
The first one is I have a hard drive connected by USB but I cant see it in Finder? I can see everything on my TC but not the connected HD.

You can also plug the USB drive into a Mac.. Mac OS can read NTFS but not write to it. You could then copy the files to the TC. My experience is Mac reads NTFS very slowly..
You do want to get the PC working I think, by ethernet to the TC and copy the files.
If this is just temporary that is fine.. using the TC for a data store and mixing with Time Machine is not such a great idea.
IMHO USB drives are cheap.. go and buy a new one. So you can copy the files direct from one disk plugged into your computer to the drive correctly connected to the TC or to the Mac.. Keep the old USB as a backup or format it and use it for something else. -
D-Link Model DSL-2750B and Kindle WIFI
VERY confused about Verizon vs. Verizon Wireless services/product/support. I now have high speed internet and a land line. I also have a smart phone wireless for one week which I am returning ASAP. Why can I not change my Kindle codes to coincide with this new modem. I was on Concast. I am Kindleless and hate the cell phone. I miss my Kindle. Shouldn't thhis D-Link include WIFI? That is what I asked for. But then, they told me I could not get Internet without a land line and Verizon Wireless told me that is not true. ?? I want my Kindle.

For the intent and purpose of this thread though, yes, the modem you have is a Wireless Gateway. The Wireless network name and key should be foundd on the D-Link as a sticker. Look for words such as "SSID" and "WPA / WPA2." When you find this information, open up the Settings on your Kindle and visit the Wi-Fi settings. From there, you will need to tell the Kindle to scan for networks. Once scanned, pick the network name (The SSID) from the list of networks, and then enter in the Wireless key (WPA / WPA2 ).
If you've already gotten the Kindle connected up to the Wi-Fi poperly, then check to make sure you have service. The D-Link modem should have a DSL light or an Internet light on it. These lights, notably the DSL light should not be flashing or red. If the Internet light is flashing, that shows it's likely connected in some way, shape or form.
For Internet, if you're trying to get DSL, Verizon Wireless has nothing to do with it. They are a completely separate company with Verizon having a 52% ownership in the company. The rest is owned by Vodafone (a provider known around Europe). Stick to Verizon Communications (1-800-VERIZON) and yes, a landline is required to get DSL. This is not due to a technical limitation as Verizon sold DSL without a phone in the past, but it is due to a company policy to preserve the landline business.
Also be aware, DSL setup may still require a computer if you've never been able to use it before. If you don't have one around, see if you can borrow one or have a tech come out and get things working on a Verizon laptop.

HP Stream 8 tablet cant see external & internal drives at same time
I have an HP Stream 8 tablet. I have plugged an OTG 64gb flash memory card Sandisk Dual USB drive into the tablet charging slot. The Tablet recognises all of the 64gb of storage & can read & write to the drive with no problems.
However, when an external storage drive is plugged in, the device cannot see the 32gb sandisc micro usb , which I installed . The tablet only seems to be able to see 1 removable drive at one time, which is frustrating as I cant then copy items from the micro sd to an external drive.
Is there a way to make windows/hp stream tablet see all drives at the same time. I have insufficient space on the built in 32gb drive , after win 8.1, office 365 & other programmes are installed so I can't copy items onto that drive.
When the external flash is connected, I can only see the C: Drive & the plugged in flash drive. When the external flash drive is disconnected, I can then see the c: Drive & the microsd32gb card.
One of the problems I think is that the tablet doesnt seem to always assign drive letters to extra storage drives. How do I activate this?It's something to do with the OTG 64gb flash memory card Sandisk Dual USB drive. Mine sees an internal 64GB uSD & a flash drive connected with an OTG cable. Drive letter asssignment is a Windows thing. You can customize it with USBDLM.

and finally I've solved the problem!!!
I tried everything to share my external USB HDD over my home network through my Apply Airport Extreme, but couldn't get it to work!!!
I have a mac and PC, with the PC being closest to the DSL modem so I installed the Airport utility on the PC to configure it.. that was my mistake!! ..I fixed the issue my installing the utility on my Mac and configuring it from there.. now it works great!! - I can Access my hdd from anwhere on the network - and as a bonus, I have managed to copy files direct from my mac to my shared files folder in windows!!

There is no Ethernet port on the HP printer, nor does it have a wireless card; it is not a "network ready" printer, just a USB printer. I connected the printer to the network via a USB cable from the printer to the Airport Extreme. All the systems on the network can see the printer, show it as the default printer, but they can't print to it. When I was using the Airport Express as a print server, the printer was connected to the Express via its USB port and the Express was connected to the Linksys router via an Ethernet cable. In this scenario, everything worked perfectly, I could print from my wireless and wired systems with no problems at all.
Your printer has wireless capablities so has an IP adress. Does a USB printer have an IP address? I don't think so, but if it does, please tell me how to find out what it is - maybe that is my problem; I didn't need this info when I was using the Express as a print server. (Maybe I just need to buy another Express and use it as a print server and forget about using the USB port on the Extreme...defeats the purpose of getting the Extreme in the first place, but at least I could stop wasting my time with all of this!)

Cant see external devices using firewire in Final Cut HD
After installing iLife anad iWork I stopped being able to import from an external device over firewire using Final Cut Express 2. I upgraded my OS to X 10.4.7 and that didn't help. I upgraded to Final Cut HD 3.5 and that didn't help either. I am able to capture in iMovie just fine. Any help would be appreciated.

VM Fusion Cant see external drives in XP
I am new to the Mac world. I haved installed VM Fusion to run XP but windows does not see any of my external devises. I have tried both a thumb drive and a external HD. I can see both of the devices on the Mac side. My Mac is running Tiger.

Can't connect to internet w/ Graphite ABS via ADSL modem
Hi,
I'm trying to get my parents set up with a wireless net connection using my old graphite ABS & airport card with his G3 iMac (I'm not sure of the precise model, it's a graphite case and I think it was the last one before the flat panels were introduced) and a new ADSL modem (D-Link DSL-300T).
- The ADSL modem is working and can get a working internet connection (verified by connecting it directly to the Mac via Ethernet).
- The ABS seems to be working, and can "talk" to the modem because it is possible to navigate into the modem's setup screens in Safari via the Airport connection.
- All Airport and network status screens/messages say the Airport is working and connected to the internet via Ethernet.
- I have checked all the modem and ABS settings with the ISP, modem manufacturer, and against my own working setup (using the same model of modem, an Airport Express, a G4 iBook and G5 iMac).
- I have tentatively ruled out a DNS problem by trying to navigate to web pages using the "numbers" (with help from the ISP) but still had the same problems.
- In every case when trying to navigate to any internet page (using its domain name or "numbers") Safari says it can't find the server.
- We've tried the old switch everything off and then back on again in the order modem -> ABS -> iMac with no success (waiting for each component to fully start up before switching on the next).
What am I doing wrong? And/or what else can I try?
I'd be extremely grateful for any help, as at the moment I feel like I've let my parents down by failing to get this working for them.

The connection to the ISP is fine as when a Mac (his iMac or my iBook) is connected directly to the modem via Ethernet we can connect to the internet.
So the modem seems to be working fine, the problem seems to be the ABS sitting in the middle.
(The ISP requires PPPoA but this is all correctly set up in the modem).
I'd be grateful for any further advice.

I am having problems setting up airport extreme.
What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2+ modem and I can't get the configuration working. Can I Bridge the Actiontec MI424WR router that Verizon provided, when I signed up for FiOS service?
The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem... -
I am trying to use an external 3g modem made by Huawei model e173s-6 and when I do connect it on my usb port the macbook pro just do not recognize it. I own a 2012 model with mountain lion 10.8.2 . What should I do ?

Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

Well as I can see from other questions asked people are already aware that when you hover over a link the link preview appears at the bottom of the page instead of the status bar.
Other people have said to install https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
Well thats fine for me to do that but what about the users who come to my site and cant see my toolbar at the bottom because the link preview (with a long URL) is obscuring it? I cant tell them to go and install an addon, what bright spark thought of this I find it very disrupting.As far as I know, [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ the Classic Theme Restorer add-on] is the only way move the Reload button outside the address bar.
# Install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] and restart Firefox when prompted.
# Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
# Next to Classic Theme Restorer, click the Options button.
# On the Main tab, make sure "Movable back-forward button" and "Hide urlbars stop & reload buttons" are checked. You might also want to check "Combine stop & reload buttons". Close the options window when done.
# Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize.
# Drag the Back/Forward, Stop and Reload buttons onto the navigation toolbar.
# Click the Exit Customize button in the lower right corner when done.
That being said, I should point out that you can reload pages in other ways.
* Right-click any tab and choose Reload.
* Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Reload.
* Press F5.
* Press Ctrl+R (Mac: Command+R). -
Cant see the page links text in my main & side navigation bars

I published my site to Mme yesterday and I have noticed a few problems have come up. The main problem is my main and side navigation bars. In the top nav bar you cant see all the page links text, they should show up in white. I can only see them when you roll over the page name (this is in grey) and that is the rollover colour. Not sure what to do to get the text colour to stay white all the time so it is always seen once it's been clicked. It just disappears, but is still there if you roll over it
My side nav bar, the text should also all be white and when you roll over it turns red. For some reason when you click on the page link it turns grey and stays grey. I also want the page links to stay white once clicked on

Turning Off Genius in iTunes 10.4
How does one turn off the "Genius" when the Turn Off Genius is greyed out in the Store Menu. I have 42,000+ tunes & I don't think it will finish whatever it is doing for the next couple of hours. Thanks for all of your help.
