Cant see my airplay icon, cant use my remote app on either of my devices

Hi
I have the gen 3 apple TV and somehow i can no longer airplay, from my mac book pro, ipad, ipad mini or iphone.  It used to work on all of my devices and now I cant see the icon.
When I open my remote app it tells me that I have to turn on Home sharing on my itunes or apple tv.  It is turned on, on all of my devices.
I have been trying to trouble shoot this issue (all of my devices have the latest updates) and I still cant use my remote or air play
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I was able to fix the issue by unpluging the apple tv, router, and modem all for about 2-3 minutes and then replugging them in

This is from the "Troubleshooting AirPlay" article:
    Resolution
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Check for the AirPlay icon ( ) in the recently used apps section on your iOS device, or in iTunes on your computer (as in these articles about how to use AirPlay and how to use AirPlay Mirroring). The icon will only appear if your device or computer is logged onto a Wi-Fi network which has an AirPlay-enabled recipient, such as Apple TV (2nd generation or 3rd generation).
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon, try one of the following steps:
Verify that your AirPlay-enabled devices have the most up-to-date software or firmware.
Verify that your iOS device has Wi-Fi turned on. Enable Wi-Fi on your iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are logged on to the same home Wi-Fi network (check the home network names on your devices to confirm).
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with security software by updating, correctly configuring, or uninstalling security software.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring is supported on your Mac, but it needs OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
    You have two possibilities:
    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion to upgrade to this OS X. Then, you will find the AirPlay Mirroring icon at the top right of the display, on the menu bar, or on System Preferences > Displays.
    2. Keep OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options work properly, but I recommend AirPlay Mirroring as it doesn't need a third-party program

  • HT204291 cant get the airplay icon on my iphone 4.

I've tried all recommendations in troublshooting but still cant get the airplay icon on my iphone4, I can use the remote app, so its definately connected, any ideas?

Responses can only be as helpful as the details provided.  What are you trying to setup an AirPlay connection to?  Did you enable AirPlay on that device(s) and create an Id?  Did you enter that id into your iPhone?  Did you do any of the steps to setup AirPlay?
And the Remote app using HomeSharing which only connects to iTunes and iTunes connects to the other devices.  It has nothing to do with AirPlay.  So that does not really mean anything.

I set this up in the UK but have taken my macbook and bose speaker travelling with through Thailand. Ive wifi in my room and am able to access the internet on my laptop, Ive also been able to through the Bose Soundlink air wifi set application connect the bose speaker to the Wifi too.
I am only able to play my itunes through my macbook speakers and cannot find the airplay button which should be next to the volume slide once turned down to less than 1/3 of the volume..

Thanks for your help.  Since I'm uninterested in loading all my photos (the only option) into photostream, I won't be able to use the settings in ATV.  I guess I'm just stuck with using iPhoto on my MB Air.  Thanks again.

  • Cant see my airplay even after swipe up

I havnt been able to see my airplay icon when I tried to mirror my IPad Air on to the T.V. . I went a purchased a HDMI Adapter for 53$ Apple brand because all I want to do is mirror, no movies and music, just for work and nothing pops up,  even swipe up from home page. I tried replacing the HDMI cord 3 times and tried it on 3 different T.Vs. I turned my ipad off with it plugged in and with it plugged out, reset the All T.Vs.. and stilll nothing.. I contacted Apple support but all they told me was exactly what i did and was told either exchange HDMI Cord or make a appointment with a apple store.( by they way this is my 3rd IPad since July 22 first two were defects)...so please dont tell my the only way to do this is through buying a IPad T.V. and pay more money for something i dont want and necessarily need. On website say you can mirror with a HDMI adapter. Thank you for reading.

A couple years ago at a friend's house I did use an Apple HDMI adaptor with my iPad 2 (30-pin) as in theYouTube links I provide below and it worked fine.  (I use Apple TV in my own home.)   These vids are obviously old and implicitly imply that you don't have to diddle with the Settings or AirPlay button - that it just happens once you connect the adaptor to the TV.  That is my recollection also but obviously that was a few IOS versions ago and my memory may be faulty.
I apologize if this seems very basic and that you already covered this - are you sure you have your TVs set to the correct external input when you attach the adaptor?   Similar to how you set up external DVD players and such?   Most TV's today have numerous HDMI, VGA, etc... input plugs on the back and sides of the  TV.  The plug you put your Apple Adaptor into must then be selected correctly by your TV remote control.  For my Sony TV for example I must push the TV/Video button that then lists all the input ports - DVD, HDMI1, HDMI2, Video Game 1, PC..... Etc...   Let's say I connected the Apple Adaptor to my HDMI2 port.  I would select that and when the screen refreshed it would now be mirroring the attached iPad.

The Airplay icon does not show on my Mac Pro, regardless that it is clicked on display. How can I do to see the Airplay Icon in order to connect my apple TV with my Mac Pro?

To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

  • Blind user on iPhone 5S, voiceover on, can not see the Airplay icon in the Pandora app

Blind user with an iPhone 5S with iOS 7.1 updated, have the Pandora app installed, and playing streaming music from the phone. My problem is that , while the Airplay icon is visible to a sighted person holding my phone, when I attempt to activate the Airplay icon - while using Voiceover - the phone doesn't seem to be able to "see" the Airplay icon, thus won't allow me to activate it. I have tried both methods of finding/accessing the Airplay icon, via the ""pushing up" of the volume bar, as well as trying to go tot he app-switcher and doing a left-to-right swipe x2 to get to the icon without positive result. The above worked just fine in my old iPhone 4S and iOS 6.X. So, what has changed, and what should I be doing differently? Thanks!

Yes, under the Settings menu of my AppleTV, I have gone into AirPlay sub-menu and the AirPlay selection shows "ON", Onscreen Code is set to "OFF" and no Password is set up.
I also have a Tick against the AppleTV listed under Speakers.
Is there anything else I should do to enable AirPlay on the AppleTV or my iPhone?

  • I'm trying to mirror my iPad 2 or my iPhone 4S to my Apple TV but I don't see the Airplay icon on either device.

I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S. I bought Apple TV recently and I've gotten bored of just using it to stream Netflix. I've been trying all morning to get Airplay to work on either my iPad or my iPhone, but I don't even see the Airplay icon when I doubleclick the Home button and swipe right. For a while when I first bought my Apple TV, I was able to play movies from my MacBook to my AppleTV, but now I don't see that option on my MacBook either. What is going on?!? At this point, I'm feeling like AppleTV might have been a waste of $99 if it's so difficult to get to work properly, but there has to be something that is wrong. I haven't changed any security settings or anything recently, and all my devices are running off the same wifi network. I tried everything that Apple says to do if Airplay doesn't work, but nothing is helping.

You have to swipe in a left to right motion. If the airplay icon isn't showing up it's likely something within your network that is blocking it. You can also try rebooting devices and router.

    Hello there Phillip,
If sounds like you updated to iOS 8.1.3 and now do not see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center. I would run through the troubleshooting and setup verification. It should get that rectified for you:

    Hello jsimard,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215?viewlocale=en_US
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Ensure that you have followed the steps in using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring.
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon  , try one of the following steps:
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay.
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices. Some content requires an Internet connection to authorize content playback. AirPlay capabilities may be limited if your network is not connected to the Internet.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Airplay icon missing using Remote app

I have an iphone 5, a 3th generation apple tv and an receiver Pionner Airplay compatible.
The apple tv plays streaming my music library stored on iTunes Match.
The songs are selected via the Remote app installed on my iPhone5.
While using Remote app, I can not send music from the ATV3 to the receiver Pioneer because the Airplay icon does not appear.
    I also made these tests:
If I use the remote control of the ATV3 instead of the Remote app, I see and I select the Pioneer among the members Airplay compatible
If I use the Remote app to control iTunes server installed on a PC instead of ATV3, Airplay icon appears correctly and I see the Pioneer among the components Airplay compatible.
    In conclusion:
Airplay functionality working correctly between ATV3 and  receiver Pioneer only if I use the remote control of the ATV3, but does not work if I use the Remote app from the iPhone 5 (Airplay icon missing).
    Any idea?

I've just bought an Apple TV yesterday and what a surprise to find this behavior as well. I use the remote app for everything about the Apple TV but swapping left and right to adjust the volume of the Airplay speakers doesn't work, so I need to use the physical remote only for that. Hope it's a bug that will be corrected. Doesn't make sense.
