Cant see my pictures, folders still appear in lib mod, but are greyed out

i upgraded to LR 1.4.1, and now when I launch, LR seems to start up fine, but none of my previews, or pictures appear. it is truly bizarre, the folder structure is there, and I can even click and browse through it, but there are no pictures anywhere. I quit and re launched 1.2, and everything was back to normal... any ideas would be much appreciated. I am on a Dell laptop, with XPSP3(service pack 3)
