Cant see the shared external hard drive in imovie on 2nd mac

I have been setting up a 1.5tb external hard drive. It is connected to our imac. It is partitioned to back up time machine on the imac, on the macbook via wifi ad imac and also for mass storage. I have transferred a lot of the archive video from the imac to the mass storage partition but when I tried the same with the macbook, it wont do it.
Just some extra clues, the hard drives are on the imac desk top as u would expect, but in the shared finder window for the imac on the macbook. When the macbook time machine runs, the icon appears on the desk top and then disappears once the time machine is done.
Maybe the mass storage icon needs to be on the macbook's desk top or something but not sure how to do this.
Kind Regards
Stuart
ps happy apple new year

No harddrive list as in the former iMovie.
Take a look here about how to manage libraries:
http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/?lang=en#mov3fa25bae7
The structure of libraries, events an projects has changed in Movie 10, an event contains the clips, projects, photo's, audio etc. used within that event.
http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/?lang=en#mov1d890f00b
if you read the whole chapter you might get and understand it. Once you get it its much more powerfull then with iMovie 9.

  • What is the best external hard drive to use for my mac?

I recently purchase a brand new Lacie 500 GB HD and I thought that it was perfect but the other day its not working, my mac doesnt recognize it anymore.
I saw some post that Lacie is not a good hard drive I read that after I bought my Lacie. I wish that I first read the post here regarding this issue.
SO, I am planning to return this hard drive for a more reliable HD..my budget is about 200-300..

Actually, I’ve been favoring the SmartDisk since it doesn’t require a Driver and that’s a plus in my book. It’s available in FW or USB and though it’s a 5400-RPM, I believe it’s fine as a Backup Drive. I reviewed the customer reviews on the Apple Store site and they are mostly positive with and average of 4½ out of a five-start ranking. Of course, there are many options, although this will likely be my personal choice.
FYI: Here’s an excerpt from their plug-line as well as references for your use. …“Plug and Play: For recent Windows and Macintosh operating system releases, such as Windows XP, Windows 2000, Window Me, and Mac OS X, no driver installation is required. This is an enormous convenience when working with a "borrowed" computer; just plug in FireLite to maintain access to important data or transfer large amounts of data between computers.”

  • What is the best external hard drive to use with a mac

I have heard there are lots of issues going on with WD and Mavericks?  I am scared to try mine, I just got a new my book and it won't work with my mavericks, any suggestions?

People seem to like OWC drives, among others.

I use Time Capsules from Apple as my drives are network attached storage. They just work, especially with Time Machine. If you buy a refurbished one, they are less expensive and come with the same warranty.

  • Cannot access shared external hard drive with other mac accounts

I cannot access a shared external hard drive with other mac accounts (all accounts are on the same macbook Pro). The shared external drive is shared via time capsule and is connected (of course) in USB. I see well this external hard drive as a shared disk with my main account. Yes shared option has been activated with the Airport Utility .. but when I open other account these othe accounts can see the external drive but cannot access to its content that is flagged with a no way sign. Strangely enough when I close my main account and start opening a new session with one of the other account then fine I can access the external hard drive and its content .. BUT then it is from my main account than I cannot access its content the no way sign showing ..
Looks like only one account at a time can access the content of this SHARED external hard drive .. any one as an idea on how to really make it a shared hard drive so that all accounts on the same mac can also access it ? I am at my wit ends on this case. THANKS ..

Results of my enquiries at Apple Genius Bar .. the guys found the problem interesting. They've been unable to provide a fix neither to give any explanation as to the reason why. To be fair I was not much impressed by the technical level demonstrated ..
In the mean time I have found that if account no.1 can see the shared external drive content and in such case account no.2 (same Mac computer) cannot see its content (only the external HD with a no way sign) this account no.2 can UNMOUNT (by ejecting) this external HD from account 1 and then remount it (just clicking on the TC shared part in a finder window) and .. see and access its content ; whilst account no.1 cannot see its content anylonger. Unless it unmounts the shared external HD and remount it .. then account no.2 can see its content anylonger. This can goes on an on.
So eventually YES the TC can allow to share a USB external drive between several accounts and a same Mac .. BUT this require to unmount and remount EACH time the external drive is accessed from a "no.2 account". So OK to share files with seldom access but not practical in case of frequent access needed.
I just I have now to figure how iTunes can automatically unmount and remount a shared external HD when it needs to access one of this shared HD content from on time account no.1 and then next time from account no.2. May be I am asking too much ..

  • My Mac Can't See Files on External Hard Drive

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my iMac today. It can't see any files on my NTFS External Hard Drive after a sharing change, I'm using Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX v8.0.0.
Yesterday evening I tried to share the drive over my network by clicking System Preferences / Sharing / File Sharing and then adding the drive as a shared folder. It is since doing this that I cannot see my files on this external HD. I have a second NTFS HD here which I connected and I can see the files on that drive so I don't think it's a software issue.
I have tried a few things to try and fix it but to no avail.
    1. I have tried removing it from the shared folder list but that hasn't solved the problem. I tried adding it a second time just in case but that didn't do anything either.
    2. I have repaired the disk permissions via disk utility
    3. I have tried "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder" to show hidden files but they still don't appear. I have reversed this so hidden files are no longer visible.
If I connect the drive to my Windows 7 laptop I can see and access all of the files.
I hope someone can help out with this issue. If you need any other information just let me know.
    Kind regards,
    Kim

I had the same problem but only after I upgraded to Lion. I could see the files on my external drive on other Macs using older software. It seems that Lion wasn't seeing old files on the external drive. So we accessed the files on a Mac using Snow Leopard, copied all the files into one new folder on the same external hard drive and now they're there on Lion. Problem solved! I hope this helps

  • I want to take files from my PC (using a Seagate external hard drive) then plug this Seagate External hard drive into my Mac Book Pro and move the files from the Seagate External Hard drive onto my Time Capsule. I do not want to put these files on my Mac

I want to take files from my PC (using a Seagate external hard drive) then plug this Seagate External hard drive into my Mac Book Pro and move the files from the Seagate External Hard drive onto my Time Capsule. I do not want to put these files on my Mac. How do I do this? Where do I put these files on my Time Capsule? Will it affect the functioning of my Time Capsule?

Mixing files with data is not always great idea.
    See info here.
    Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Why not just connect the PC directly to the TC by ethernet and copy the files over?
It is hugely faster and much less mucking around.
In windows load the airport utility for windows.. if you have not already as this will help you access the drive.
    There is more info here.

  • Getting my backed-up photos into iPhoto on the new external hard drive

I managed to use Time Machine to restore the back-up of my external hard drive (that died) to a new external hard drive, however, while I can see the .jpeg images that were in my original (ext. hard drive) iPhoto library on the new Passport Drive, they are no longer set up in an iPhoto library.  I might have confused the system because I had thought I needed a shell structure iPhoto library on the new hard drive, so I basically moved the new "budding" iPhoto library established on my iMac's internal hard drive to the Passport drive before restoring the Time Machine backup.  What I see now is 1. a 4GB iPhoto library existing on the internal drive.  2. an identical 4GB iPhoto library existing on the external Passport drive  and 3. a folder named Simpletech with the entire contents of the failed hard drive including all the photos from my original 54GB iPhoto library that resided on the old external hard drive, which are accessible as independent .jpeg files, but no longer organized as an iPhoto library.
Would love to know the steps to having just one iPhoto library on the Passport external hard drive that contains all my images without accidentally losing/deleting any images and messing up pointers.  I would not mind eliminating the iPhoto library on the internal hard drive either, provided I could get all the images into the main one.

while I can see the .jpeg images that were in my original (ext. hard drive) iPhoto library on the new Passport Drive
When you enter Time Machine and go to the Pictures folder do you not see the iPhoto Library in it at different dates?
If you used Time Machine to backup your hard drive then the iPhoto Library package should be in it.  If you did something different please explain in detail what you did.

    Hi Clarkett99,
To use an external hard drive for your iTunes library, see the steps in this article -

  • What is the best external hard drive for iMac?

The two external hard drives I am looking at are the Seagate GoFlex 500 G for Mac and the Seagate 500G formatted for Windows, but can reformat for Mac.
The first one is formatted for Mac at the factory  and has both USB and firewire connectors, is upgradeable plus it is ready to use with Time Machine. ($139). The second is very similar, but does not say anything about firewire and would have to be reformatted to work with Time Machine/iMac. ($59, Costco). I want the external hard drive mainly to back up my iMac program data and to store photos and other media. I have put off getting an external hard drive, but feel I need one to keep things backed up. One that would automatically back up would be great. Other suggestions than the above two would be fine, too. I know so little and am looking to this group for some knowledgeable feedback. Thank you.

Just setup a USB GoFlex with my Son-in-Law's new iMac and it seems like a fairly sturdy drive. However it is hard to tell at this point how reliable both the drive and enclosure hardware will be long term.
I use both FireWire and USB drives and while USB drives are slower, they will work just find for both Time Machine and bootable clone backups
Personally I suggest using 2 External HD's, one for Time Machine (if you like using Time Machine) and one or both for cloning with either CarbonCloner or SuperDuper.

  • What is the best external hard drive with MacBook Pro

What is the best external hard drive with MacBook Pro?

I agree with Allan, and that link is also called OWC, their hard drives are great.  Have three of their Mercury Pro Elite 2 TB quad interface drives.  They will connect eSATA, Firewire 800 & 400, USB2, so broad reange of options.  Drives seem to come Mac HFS formatted, but I always reformat and partition the drives.  Service and quarantees are top notch.
They offer a wide range of drives/drive systems so like Allan said, spend some time seeing what the have.

  • Finder freezes when attempting to access a "shared" external hard drive (wireless via Airport Extreme)

Finder freezes.   As soon as I click onto my "shared" external hard drive (3TB WD - wireless via Airport Extreme), finder immediately freezes / eternally spinning beach ball (until I restart finder).  Can still access wirelessly on another Mac (not on Yosemite).
    Please help!

Ok - for a while there, the hard drive would not come up on the desktop - but now on a re-boot of the compter, or if I disconnect the hard drive and re-connect it, a message comes up with three buttons which say:
    Initialize
    Ignore
    Eject
Sound like the hard drive has died?

  • Rescue and Recovery doesn't see my wireless external hard drive

R&R does not see my wireless external hard drive so I cannot backup - help?
    Thanks
    Bennie

I've seen some versions of R&R refuse to show backups when their total space taken was at or near the limit set in R&R. In advanced mode, set the limit as high as possible and see if they appear.
This is if you are working from the installed R&R. If you're running from a rcovery CD, never mind...

  • My HP Pavilian dv6910 stopped seeing my USB external hard drive

My HP Pavilion dv6910 stopped seeing my USB external hard drive. Up until 2 weeks ago I have never had a problem with the laptop reading and writing to my Seagate 500gb hard drive. I have  2 other computers that have no trouble working with the external drive. I thought maybe the circuit board in the external drive case was bad so I bought another one. Same thing. The Vista home premium software will not open the drive. Oddly enough, the drive is seen by the hardware manager and I can get volume information but Windows Explorer does not see it at all.
The laptop has 3 usb2  ports and I have tried them all with the same results. I have other usb devises that work just fine on all ports.
I thought maybe the driver got messed up so I did an auto search to replace and was told the current driver is ok.
I do have a program called Advanced System Care Pro that auto cleans the registry (as well as many other things) and it might have removed something it should not have but I am not sure.
I use the external drive for all my backups so I need to get this problem resolved as soon as possible. Can anyone help we with this?

I meant reinstalling the operating system.
There's a repair disc, but it's generally to repair a corrupted boot protocols.
I had a look around and I can't find any place to download it either.
Just thought if something _ you could try doing a hard reset.
Shut down, remove the battery and adapter, hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Plug only the adapter back in and boot up.
Try you hard drive again _ give it a minute.
