im running Software 10.6.8 and recently i cant send emails but can receive them fine? bit annoying as need to send important things or reply to emails but cant via IMail ??
ginavee, as I stated in my earlier post, we've no idea what settings you need to enter in your Mail account preferences. You'll have to go to your service provider's web site and see if they provide it in a support section there. For example, if you use Comcast as your service provider, the Comcast web site will have information on how to set up Apple's Mail program. You'll need, of course, your email account name and password.
You may be able to determine your Mail settings by looking at your iPad's Mail settings if you're able to send and receive email from that device. -

mac won't send emails but can receive them
Hi Mick209
I am in the UK and eventually found the problem was due to my BT Home Hub Router. Not sure where you live, but of you are in the UK, this might work for you.
I found this fix below on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4604180?start=15&tstart=0
It worked for me. If you can't link to the URL, here is the body of the text
There's an issue related to the BT homehub that is providing a hostname that is "syntactically incorrect" for several smtp server.
Here's how you can fix it.
Using your internet browser, go to the address "192.168.1.254
- Follow instructions to reset your password if asked.
- Then go to "Settings", then "Advanced Settings" and "home network"
You will see there all the devices that are connected or that has been connected before. It's gonna be easyer if yout computer is the only one connected.
Your computer should have a name like "unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ...
Click on this name, chose another name without any special characters, like "macbook" for exemple.
And then click on "apply"
- restart your computer.
That should fix the issue.
Credit goes to vincentfromcork for providing me with the solution.
If it works, spread the word :-) -
I've reset, deleted, recreated and still can't send emails but can receive mail
I've reset, deleted email account, recreated email account. I can receive emails but can't send them.
Try a refresh on your e-mail account. Go your e-mail screen, where the account is listed, and long press the account name. A box will open with several choices -- press refresh. This may solve your problem.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I can no longer send emails, but can receive them. Something about smtp?
Hi,
I need help.
I am overseas at my parents house and using their wireless internet and i went to go and send emails from my Mail application (using my .Me account) just like i have done plenty of times in the past and for some reason i can no longer send emails, however i am still receiving them. I get these messages pop up:
Cannot send the message using the server:
smtp.mac.com
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Send message using (then there is a pull down menu with smtp.mac.com:yuko as the only selection)
At the base of this box, there are 3 buttons you can press: "Edit Message", "Use Selected Server", "Try again later".
So i select "Use Selected Server" and the following Error message appears:
Message from: Conlan Bryce <[email protected]>
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The server "smtp.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 25
Can any one help me with this? I did not touch any settings in my Preferences and System Preferences. it just happened one day. I dont remember what my original settings were, so i cant tell what is different.
Any ideas about how to fix this?
Thanks,
BryceHi Olivier,
Thanks very much for that. it worked on my powerbook(running Tiger). I went to the link and followed the instructions and it worked. Did i mention that my dad who has a iMac running Leopard now has the same problem. I thought i would just do the same but the Preference in Mail for Leopard is of course different. There is no icon called "Server Settings" under Accounts section like there is on mine. Do you have a link for the same kind of instructions for Leopard?
Thanks again,
Bryce -

Suddenly cannot send email but can receive email
I am running OSX 10.8.2 on a MacPro desktop. I have been using Mail sucessfuly since I originally installed Mountain Lion but now it suddenly has stopped working. I have confirmed and reconfirmed my SMPT settings but have failed to send any mail. I sucessfully sent an email one week ago and have not completed any updates since. Suddenly "Mail" has taken a vacation and refused to send any mail. This has failed using POP, SMPT, EXCHANGE and IMAP.
I am now getting an error message indicating:
"The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.gmail.com.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
I have confirmed my settings are correct with my service providers. I get this message from all of the email accounts that I use. I know the mail settings are right because I can send mail from these accounts using my iPhone,iPad, and Widows laptop without issues.
Attempting to change ports as suggested in previous posts has worked on one "send" test email but has refused to operate since. I noticed that "Mail" will sometimes unilaterally change the outgoing server addresses on it own.
The same issues come up when I tried to configure MS Oultlook:MAC 2011 tehrefore I suspect a problem originating with Mountain Lion and not the email clients.
I checked for APPLE updates to my system and everything comes back as completely current with no updates available. Any ideas?Hello,
All dot.Mac and Dot.Me account have migrated to iCloud.
You should have been given details of expiry for the .Mac account to iCloud. Apple have now shut .Me and .Mac account for web access.

Can't send emails but can receive
Hi all, I have a blackberry curve 8520, my service provider is vodacom and yup, I have a problem. A couple days ago, I received a "warning unexpected error has occurred....". Followed the advice on the net and reloaded os on my device and everything working great, no more warnings. Now, I can't seem to send any emails but I can receive them. So I am using both hotmail and gmail accounts. The problem is as follows, I open up my email client, and click "compose messages", a new blank email comes up and when I try type in an email address, it does not link to my contacts. So I try type in the full email address regardless and something else that's weird is that when I press "space", usually it would automatically put the "@" sign and then also the "." When I pressed space again. So now I've typed in the full email address and when I try click send, the only options I get are "save draft" and "full menu" So I have travelled through the net trying to figure out this issue and the only solution that seems to be offered for this is going to "host routing table" and "registering" and then deleting service books and resending the service books and then a battery pull. I can safely say I have done all of this without success. Please can someone help me?? Thanks! J
Are the service books listed on your device? Go to Options >Service Books (may be under advanced options depending on OS version) and see if you have service books for your email. You should have CMIME service books listed for each email account.

I can't send emails but can receive them
Hi can anyone tell me how to set up iPad to send emails? I can receive them but can't send any except public emails account
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -
