Cant send files

when on ichat i cant share or send files to others why?

Sending files without zipping them first works for me.
What methods are you trying? There are several ways to send a file. In my testing with other iChat users, the most common technique to try first seems to be to drop a file into the text entry line in an iChat IM (text) window and then pressing the <<i>return> key. Occasionally that method fails.
When the text entry line method fails, try the methods recommended in your Mac's iChat > Help. I find that when dragging to the text input line fails, usually using the iChat > Buddies > Send File... method will not work either, but it does no harm to try.
When the menu command method fails, if you have an open video or audio chat window with the buddy to whom you want to send the file, you can drag the file and drop it in the open video or audio window. Note that iChat pauses AV transmission during file transfer to make the process faster.
Alternatively, try dragging the file and dropping it on the name in your Buddy List of the chat buddy to whom you want to send the file.

Also consider that the problem may be at the receiving end of the file transfer. Does the problem occur with everyone, or only with a few of your buddies. If file transfer fails only with some of your contacts, ask them to be certain that they are clicking on the files to receive them. If those few buddies receive no indication that you are attempting to transfer files, ask them if they can receive files from anybody. Perhaps the problem lies within their systems.

If none of those suggestions help you, consider possible issues within your system. Your system info shows that you are still using 10.4.7. Consider applying the 10.4.9 Combo Updater using the following method:- Backup your Home Folder, or at least, your important files.
- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply the appropriate combo updater for your Mac:
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel) or
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC)
- Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then try sending a file again.Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.

If your Mac checks out, your internet connection may be causing problems.
Do you have anything other than your computer (for example, VOIP, game, etc., that use the internet) connected to your internet connection? If so, disconnect everything except your compute, and try sending a file again. If it works with everything disconnected, you can try connecting one device at a time to test for which device is the source of your problem.
Alternatively, I note from your system info that you have two Macs. Do you use a router to create a LAN at your location? If you cannot transfer files from either Mac, your router may be the problem. Disconnect your router, connect your Mac directly to your modem via ethernet cable, and try again.
If your problem goes away whenever the router is disconnected, add the router back and test again. Try this test two or three times. If the problem returns every time the router is connected, your router is causing the problem. If you have another router (or can borrow one) you can test whether any router will work with your system.

    At first glance I would have asked if you have the 5190 port open to both UDP and TCP protocols. But this would have made more problems for incoming files.
    My second thought was that the College may have some Virus checking software on their connecting server. But again I would have thought this would have effected incoming stuff more.
    This make me wonder about full caches.
    I would run a Utility to runthe Cron scripts and clear caches as list in the <a href="http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?50@@.6890d19d"Routine Maintenance Tasks</a> of this FAQ (MacJanitor or Cocktail or Using Terminal to Force them to run)

  • Cant send files from imac to ipad in any way. SOMEONE HELP

    somebody please help .cant connect to itunes (need upgrade apparenty but how do you upgrade itunes on ipad)) and cant send over blutooth file exchange ("dosnt have nessecary services") somebody please help.

    i dont know if i have the new or the old ipad, but i cant connect to itunes to do that. itunes gives me a message saying i need to upgrade so it cant run its software. but to upgrae it i need to connect to itunes so im basically stuck.
    the itunes on my computer is 11. something so its fully up to date.
    on my ipad it says iOS 6.0.1 so i dunno if thats up to date or not.

    when u plug in your phone to your computer, on your phone select data transfer. If an error message apears on your phone saying its unable to connect, restart your phone and plug it in again. after selecting data transfer, your phone's memory should appear as a flash drive on your computer. select images for your pictures. the pictures are in folders arranged in date order. for videos go to the videos folder. the videos are in MP4 format.

  • Cant send file with outlook in preview

    Hello,
    I'm a new Mac user and must say very happy with my change.
    However I have one problem I can't seem to solve.
    My work forces me to use Microsoft Outlook on my Mac.
    But I can't seem to figure out how to send files from the preview program.
    When selecting "send e-mail" in preview. It always opens the Mail program, even though I set Outlook as the standard mailing program.
    Anyone has an idea on how to fix this?

    hi ppl a recently bought a usb pen and a new cell phone with bluetooth suport...well im using bluetooth gnome libs and utils...a dont have anyproblm on sync the pc and phone..all works fine if i send from the cellphone to pc...ok...but the reversed way doesnt work...i notice that on gnome it exists on menu (right mouse button) a "send to..." ok..but it doenst work..i opened a terminal ran: hciconfig -a ....ok got the adress..and tryed to send..nothing happens...does any one can help..or had the same problm?

    i've done everything! i can sync my address book with my Verizon V3c with my macbook pro running os 10.4.6...
    BUT how do i browse my device or at least send a file...it says "Device does not have the necessary services."

    Does anyone have a solution for converting Palm Contacts?  I'm happy to buy software to make this happen.  I have 2500+ contacts and use many of the fields (and would like to keep them).  I am on a mac and use a droid phone (Samsung Intercept).  Sprint says that they can convert the contacts, but that they will then only be on my phone.  I need to be able to update on my computer and have that sync with my phone.

    You are probably using a router or a gateway acting as firewall.
    So you have to configure the NAT feature on that device.

    Trying to send a file from imac to macbook keep getting massage on macbook to check setting, all settings or as they should be on both machines , but i can send from macbook to imac no prob.
    But if i make a new user on the imac and send the same file it will send no prob.

    You can't send folders by Bluetooth. Just files.
    Also, older Pages files are a special type of folder called a package (right-click on the icon and choose *Show Package Contents* to see what's inside). So you can't send those by Bluetooth without zipping them, or if you're using the latest version of Pages, make sure the "Save new documents as packages" option is unchecked in Preferences > General.

  • Unable to send file in binary mode to ftp server using AIR application

    Hi,  Can any one help me. i am trying to send local files to ftp server  in binary mode from AIR application using sockets.
    I cant use PASV mode for this FTP server because security restrictions. when i am trying to send Binary command i am always getting
    error code 500 which is unrecognized command. I googled for solutions but i cant find any one using Binary mode to send data every example is using PASV mode to send

    I don't think they're commands that are dependent on each other

    I don't know when this started but it was two days ago I noticed this. I have changed all the permissions in info to allow me to have read write access to all my hardrives(2) which are both segmented. May have started when I put in the second HD and now I have three systems installed.
    I did erase the com.apple.recentitems.plist -- which did not do anything.
    I was able to send a copy of the file from my CD via iCHat with no problem.
    Originally it would not allow me to move any files even on the harddrives. Not it seem related to the CD's

    this was related to Leopard refusing to give me administrative rights
