Cant send mail out.

Hi-
I'm running an Xserve ( new intel build) , using OS X server 10.5.5.
I can send mail from one user to another from within the domain. I can also receive email form the outside world.
however, I cant email out.
SMTP log file reports the following
"Oct 17 19:25:08 BHW1-Server postfix/qmgr[42665]: warning: connect to transport smtp: Connection refused
Oct 17 19:25:15 BHW1-Server postfix/smtpd[42715]: warning: 189.71.93.145: hostname 18971093145.user.veloxzone.com.br verification failed: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
Oct 17 19:25:48 BHW1-Server postfix/qmgr[42746]: warning: connect to transport smtp: Connection refused"
The ip changes based on whom I try to email to ( I assume I'm getting bounced by someone's mail relay or servers)
I have rebooted, restarted various services and am fairly convinced this is a configuration problem somewhere-
any mail guru's help out?

How is your server connected to the world? Are you relaying your mail server trough your ISP? Or is the domain you internally use, known on the internet? From the mail you try to send, is the info included in its envelope correct?
As I assume that you use an internal FQDN not publicly know, this is how I resolved a similar situation:
1. the server must be using the correct relay server
2. per (local) user the email address must be set to an allowed (publicly known) email address.

  • Cant send email out

I cant send emails out, on my iphone 5s, its telling me to go to account setting and put a password, i cant locate account settings. Please assist

    What email are you using?
Go to settings->mail contacts and calendar-> then tap in your email and re enter the password to your email. You may need to renter the SMTP server password too. Just anytime you see password type in your password. That should fix the issue.

All of a sudden, I cannot send mails out from MAIL.
I can still receive mails though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. I use Gmail, for instance, even though I could get an account through my ISP. The nice thing about web-based accounts is that they travel with you. Most have a website page devoted to configuring your email properly for both incoming and outgoing mail servers. You may have something as simple as a port misconfiguration.
So who do you have this account with?

  • C6-01- Cant send mail via yahoo mail

I have set up my yahoo mail account on my Nokia C6-01. I receive mails as they should do. But I Cant send mail. When I compose a mail and try to send it it just stays in outbox. I have set the mailbox settings correctly. While my gmail account works fine to send mails. Mails are sent instantly. Is anyone else going thru this trouble? And I Cant set up the Ovi mail mailbox. It keeps telling me "unable to sign in" How shall I solve this problem?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, it works fine if you use Nokia messaging service. If you use the standard mailbox it has been failing. I have some reservations about Nokia messaging service and thats why I dont want to use it.

  • Can receive, but cant send mail

Any ideas? I can receive but cant send mail. It says..
The SMTP server “mailhost.zen.co.uk” rejected the password for user
    Have mail version 4.4
    Many thanks

    Hi,
I would double check your settings and port numbers.
Incoming Mail (pop3) server mailhost.zen.co.uk and port for Incoming mail (POP3) is 995
Outgoing Mail (smtp) server mailhost.zen.co.uk and port for Outgoing mail (SMTP) is 587

Also make sure under SMTP that the outgoing server requires as secure connection (SSL) box is checked as well as the incoming POP3 (SSL) box.
Can you say if this is a recent issue or one that has been there since setup?

  • Cant send mails with mountain lion

cant send mails with mountain lion, but i can recive....

Hi, i am having the same problem. this is what i have noticed.
    I have 2 x imac's and 2 x macbook air's
i upgraded the 2 macbook air's and 1 of the imac's to Mountain Lion, all these have problems acessing sites that require you to login .
the one remaining imac is still running lion and works perfect.
i am using a dlink router with DD-WRT firmware, i tested teathering from my iphone and i can log into websites fine using the newly upgraded mac's.
It's not a wireless issue as my imac is using an ethernet connection.
is there a compatibility issue with some routers.

  • Cant send mail using hotspot

Hi.  I have started using my iPhone 4S as a WiFi hotspot for my MBP when on the road.  Mail collects from all my accounts ok but I cant send any mails from my MBP thru the Hotspot connection.  I dont get any error message, just the spinning icon next to the sent mailbox and no info in the activity window.  Any ideas welcome.  thanks

Are you sending mail using a Broadband provider account?
For instance, Virgin Media Mail can only be send through the Virgin Media Sever when you are actually connected to your Virgin Media line (at home)
An attempt to send mail using the outgoiong server smtp.virgin.com will be blocked if it isn't coming down one of their own lines.
To cure it, you'll need to add a different smtp server to our mail account that can be used while youo're out an about. Normally this would be the smtp server that your phone company gives you i.e smtp.orange.co.uk or whatever.

  • Cant send mail within certain wifi networks!

    Hi.
I have my own wifi network at home which works fine.
When i come round to my mums house, she has an orange (phone company in UK) wireless router.
It all works fine and im on websites and downloading mail etc but i just cant send it from mail.
It says the selected server is unavailable.
As soon as im out of this wifi network its fine...
Any ideas what this could be?
    Thanks, Ben

Some ISPs, that provide their own email service to its customers, block traffic that is destined for port 25 of mail servers if it is not their mail server. So, if you don't have the same ISP has mum, that's likely why you are not getting through. You might try specifying port 465 or port 587 as your outgoing mail port, most likely with SSL enabled, but I would start by asking your email provider what should your smtp server settings be when you are on a network that blocks port 25 traffic to anyone's mail server but their own. Also ask whether those same settings would work when you are on their network, that way you wouldn't have to make two sets of outgoing mail servers for your mail account.

  • Moved my IMac to new location -- can receive, but can't send mail out!!

Help, help!! You guys, I'm pretty doggone mac literate ... and I am completely frustrated over this. I took my beautiful iMac to my new office from my home. At home, mail sent and received beautifully on a wireless roadrunner network. At work, I am globbing on to the office's wireless network, which I am told, is sbc.global.net. I have put in the smtp for that for the outgoing messages, the darn thing will not send messages out no matter what smtp outgoing server I select. Interestingly, however, I AM able to send a message to myself -- from roadrunner to roadrunner. I called the roadrunner people, and their suggestions that I use the sbc.global.net as the outgoing server did not work. This problem is really messing up my business ... can you please help?? Many thanks.

Who provides your internet service at your new office? Check with them for outgoing mail service. Generally your best option is your ISP for outgoing service Road runner probably will not accept remote mail (only from people who are connected to their network)

  • Cant send mail but can recieve

have an iphone 3g and just today its stopped sending emails. it comes up with error message
user name or password for smtp.(email [email protected] is incorrect??
is the server just down or have i stuffed something up. like i said still receive but cant send from phone

I began having the same issue today. Several people have posted on the MS livemail forum with this issue today with no response. I was able to work around (found it in the troubleshooting section here) by going settings > mail > livemail account > outgoing mail server > at&t smtp server > on. This is only a work around. There is clearly something that changed today. Another thread talked about not sending when on wifi and using this work around but even with wifi off it will not send without this work around change.
