Hi please can somebody help me i have a brand new iphone 4s telstra and am using my already activated telstra sim but cant set up phone as wont connect to internet. Have tried a different sim too same thing

Restore or set up new phone

Hi, when i plug my iphone updated 4 into my Mac it only lets me restore or set as new phone?/whats going on??.

Restore will update your iOS, and then restore contents from your last iTunes backup. Set as new will do what you expect - set it up as a brand new unit with no history at all.

I just set up my new iPhone 4 but when I was syncing it I selected restore settings instead of set-up new phone. Is there a way I can un-do this or is it no big deal?

Contacts and calendar events should be synced with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac and notes can be synced with the Mail.app notes feature on your Mac.
The only data you will be losing will be existing iPhone settings, 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, and SMS/MMS. In addition, any photos and/or videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll will also be lost that haven't been imported by your computer. If any photos and/or videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll have not been imported, you can do so before restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. With a Mac, this can be done with iPhoto, or with the Image Capture application located in your Applications folder.

I downloaded the iOS 6 on my iphone 3GS and now it is stuck on gthe set up. It does not recognise a simcard even when inserted and tells me 'No Service'. So actually I cant set up the phone. What could be the problem since I have never encountered such.

It is most likely permanently bricked. Jailbreaking can do permanent damage.

I set up new phone (5) as a "new phone instead of backing up from icloud. How can I get back in to use the icloud backup? If I hit "delete account" does that just clear the new phone or does it get rid of my whole icloud account.

In the set-up process I clicked "set up as new phone" when I should have clicked "back up from icloud". I can't use itunes for the back up as it is not current. Is there a way to get back into setup? If I click "delete accout" in icloud management will it clear just my phone (so I can start over) or will it actually delete my icloud?

Settings>General, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Reset, choose to delete all data. Then attach to itunes and choose to perform a restore. You'll get the option to restore from icloud.

Set up new phone or restore?

When I want to backup my iphone to itunes using a PC it asks me if i want to set up as new phone or restore from the backup. I don't want to do either. How do I get around this?
I used to be able to find the answer to this just googling the question but the answer no longer appears anywhere. I also can't find it on the apple site.

If you choose Setup as New, it will erase ALL of your data from the phone. If you have been syncing regularly you can then restore it from iTunes.
However, it sounds like you are choosing Restore rather than Sync when you connect the phone.

Setting up new phone with iCloud

My iPhone 4 was water damaged and I bought a new iPhone 5. I am setting up the phone and trying to restore my data from my iCloud back up. It is saying there is a problem loading my iCloud backups. If I set it up as a new iPhone have I lost everything? Thank you in advance for your response.

You will lose settings, saved app data, your camera roll, etc..
The ponly things you can retain is what will sync back via iCloud:
Settings > iCloud

Trying to set up new phone with iCloud. My backup shows up but not in bold so it won't let me select it. Any ideas??

Make sure your 5c is running the same or higher version of iOS as the one you backed up. If it isn't you cannot restore the backup until you update the phone. Then make sure you are restoring the backup this way: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.
You phone won't need to be from the same provider or have the same telephone number to use the backup, but you will need to be signed into the iCloud account that you backed up your old phone to.

Could not sign in error when setting up new phone

Trying to set up my new 5S using restore via iCloud but keep getting the following:
'Could not sign in - there was a problem connecting to the server'.
Any ideas? Won't let me pass that screen and I'd rather not have to set it up as a new iPhone as I'll lose stuff from my 4S

On your phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content & Settings, or Plug it in, iTunes running, and hit the "Restore" button on the Summary Pane...eject when finished. Either choice will return the phone to a state just like it was when first taken out of the box.

I can't set my new phone up

I've got an Iphone 4 today and when I plug it into my laptop (Itunes been set up for a few years) its not doing a thing. My laptop just asks if I want to import items from my device. Itunes doesn't seem to even notice it's there. Help me please, its doing my head in! Is it my Itunes??

Setting up new phone with old apps

I got the iPhone 6 yesterday. First of all I synced my iPhone 5 so that it would have all my current apps etc then I plugged my iPhone 6 into my MacBook and restored it to my most recent backup. It synced photos and music but no apps. I looked at what apps had been saved to my MacBook and there was only 1. I then restored the iPhone 6 to factory settings and did the whole thing again. Same problem.
I did a bit of searching on google and found a piece of software called 'TouchCopy12'. I used this to put all my apps from my iPhone 5 onto my iTunes. This worked perfectly and now could see all the apps I wanted on my computer. I plugged in my iPhone 6 and chose all the apps I wanted and synced it. Some have transferred but I got an error message saying that i was not authorised to do this on this computer and I needed to authorise it. I did this but it said this computer was already authorised!
Does anyone know a way around this? Most of them are paid apps and some are free. I don't mind downloading the free ones but I don't want to have to pay for the paid ones again.

Is this a good option to avoid clutter? I have two computers that have backed up iphone 4, and would like to think less apps the better performance.
If one chooses this option do I have an option to restore from backup from another computer, or is it saved under itunes account/ is it serial # specific.

you can connect your iPhone to as many computers as you want. you can only have 1 computer as your "master control" to sync your iPhone. if you try to sync with a different computer, it will erase the iPhone.

ITunes consistently thinks my iPhone is a new phone and wants to set up as new

I have had an iPhone 4S for 4 weeks and have had every other iPhone since 2007. I plug my phone in regularly to my computer and change the content that is synched to it. Something happened yesterday, however, that makes iTunes think it's a new phone every time I plug it in -- instead of the usual media selection tabs at the top, iTunes gives the "Set Up New Phone" dialog with the option to restore a backup. I have restored from my most recent backups, erased and restored, and today even got a replacement from the Apple Store, all to no avail. There is some file on the phone that makes it appear to iTunes as a new phone and it won't give up.
I have now restored from an October 14th backup and I get the options back, but obviously lose a good bit of stuff that I'd really like to have had. It has been escalated through AppleCare to engineers, but it could take a couple days to hear from them. Thoughts are welcomed and I'm not afraid to get messy with some files :-)

Do you mean that you bought a new iPhone and are trying to sync it with iTunes, or that you restored your iPhone and are trying to set it up as a new phone? In either case, iTunes will recognize the phone as being new. If you actually bought a new iPhone, you can't change how iTunes recognizes the phone. There is no personal data on the phone because it's new, so it will need to be set up as a new phone with iTunes.
If you restored your iPhone and chose to set it up as a new iPhone, but no longer want to, you will probably be able to go back and choose to restore it from a backup with either iCloud, if you set it up, or iTunes. If not, you can try to do a restore from iTunes if it's available after the phone is set up, or while you're setting it up.
I hope that's not confusing. What exactly are you trying to achieve?
