Cant share folders with windows pcs. and

I am sometimes not able to view the other windows pcs over the network. Sometimes i can. But i am never able to share my files with others even after turning the file sharing option on and adding a folder to be shared.

You can share any volume on your mac over samba wether it is usb disk, cd rom, hard drive etc without having to manually configure the samba config file if you use a great piece of shareware called sharepoints.
The problem you have is the volume name of a CD changes each time you use a different CD. So afaik you would have to create a new sharepoint each time you mount a CD rom with a different name.

  • How to share CDROM with Windows PCs?

    Hi,
I'd like to share my CDROM drive with Windows computers on my network via Samba. I seem to be a little bit stuck in determining the file path to use for the drive in my Samba configuration.
    Can anyone help with this?

  • Securely Share Folders With Windows XP Clients

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I have a new MacPro running OS X Server 10.5 and I have configured 5 Share Points. I have created 3 Groups of users: Managers, Designers and Temporary. I have created Users for my employees and added them to the appropriate Groups. The Groups have been dragged into the ACL section of the Permissions and I propagated the permissions.
SMB Service is running and Access > Allow Guest Access is turned off.
For my Mac users this works fine, they get access to the Share Points they should and are denied access to those they should not.
I have 1 User named Temp (for temporary staff) which I added to a Group named TempGroup. This user is connecting from a PC running XP Pro. I have only added the TempGroup to 1 Share Point with Allow and Read/Write Access. To be careful I then added this Group to my other Share Points with Deny Read/Write Access. Disturbingly though when I went to "My Network Places" on their PC I could access all of the Share Points and I was not asked for a Password!
I would be very grateful for some clear guidance for correctly configuring my Sever to control access by PC users.
    Thank you very much.

    hi
I've had weird problems with DHCP on osx-server.
The workaround I'm using that seems to work is to add some rules to the firewall for any request on port's 67 & 68 coming from the internal ethernet interface, in our case en1.
For some reason it appears that the firewall sometimes blocks dhcp requests.
    I hope that helps.

  • Can't share files with Macbbok Air and Windows XP PC

Despite several calls to apple support I am still unable to share files with the PC.The PC is wired to the router and the macbook is wireless.
I can see the shared files on my PC in the finder of the MAC but whan I click on the file it says that 'original item "shared file" cannot be found'.
or when connecting via go-connect to server-, the error message
' the volume "Shared file" cannot be mounted' appears, this is followed by a message 'sorry the operation could not be completewd because an unexpected error occurred (Eror code -6602)
I can also only connect as a guest via Finder and sometimes when trying to connect the error maessages do not appear but the computer seems to absorb a lot of CPU usage, get hot and freeze.
    Any ideas please?
I have tried turning off firewalls on both computers and have spoken to support for the d link router who confirmed that the router doesnt block file sharing.

Actually, I just typed in smb://PCNAME without any folders, logged in as a guest (I don't have a password-enabled share setting in Windows 7), and my Mac kindly asked me which volume to mount. I chose Users, and it popped up in Finder. Fully browsable.

  • Can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?

I'm looking at getting an Intel iMac which will let me throw away my old PC - Yeah!
I will have a couple of Win apps that I will need to hang on to (Quicken - Quicken for Mac is horrible, but that's another tghread). Anyway, can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?
My thought would be to allow my wife to access Quicken from Parallels and not have to reboot. She will only need lightweight access and the overhead of running virtualization wouldn't impact her. I, on the other hand, would want to occasionally boot natively into Windows and run the same application with the same datafile. Is this possible?
Thanks and looking forward to joining the MacIntel world!

Thanks for all of the freplies. I suspected that BootCamp and Parallels could not shar ethe same partition, but wanted to verify. To address some of the other posts:
Re: Quicken vs MoneyDance - I looked at MoneyDance a while back and while it is comparable to Quicken for Mac, it isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows (ergo, Quicken for Mac isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows!). But, as I said, that is a topic for another thread!
Re: Using Bootcamp/Parallels for only one app: I actually have several apps that I still need access to on Windows. I work with many business applications than only run/are supported on Windows as well as receive some complex Office documents which Office for Mac cannot handle. Quicken (for Windows 2007) was just the best example of a consumer app where I could see wanting access from both OS X and Windows.

If you mean just moving files between a Mac and a PC with XP on it, get a USB flash drive, format it FAT32 (they usually come that way) and copy the files to that drive.

Cannot download iTunes to PC with Windows XP and service pack 3. When I hit "download now" it goes stright to the "thanks for downloading" screen but downloads nothing.

I can't answer that. I'm just a user. Apple makes it decisions and does not share that with anyone here as you well know. Apple has also stopped supporting syncing contacts and calendar with the latest version of OS X, Mavericks. Users have to use iCloud. Many are not happy about that. Let Apple know how you feel here: www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Is there no way to share folders with the rest of the Team, rather than file by file, link by link

Is there no way to share folders with the rest of the Team, rather than file by file, link by link, potentially hundreds of links for a folder containing graphics, html, css, etc for a web project?
Not quite sure what's the advantage of a team account - just seems like a bulk purchase of single accounts. As a team working in the cloud I'd expect to be able to collaborate on projects not a single file.

Folder sharing is not currently available.
The advantage of a Team account is not bulk purchase but being able to assign and remove Seats as needed by an Administrator who handles billing. With an Individual subscription the payment information is attached to each the individual.
