Cant start iTunes nor Quicktime

When i start iTunes or Quicktime, they won't open, i'm getting an error.
All worked fine, when i had my previous system on my last hard disk. I decided to buy a new WD 1TB harddisk. I did format and installed windows, but when trying to open the iTunes now (to sync music with my iphone) i'm getting an error, the same happens when trying to open quicktime player. Haven't got them working since I got the new WD HDD. Really need help with this!
I have windows XP service pack 3 installed, if it's necessary to point out. iTunes is ver 8.1.1.10 and Quicktime ver 7.60.92.0. If more information is needed to make it easier to solve the problem, then just ask.
I would be very grateful, if this problem get's a solution.
My english grammar might not be good for i am estonian.
iTunes error:

Quicktime error:

In addition to Pamela Gadsden's advice, BEX errors in quicktime can be due to the installation of incompatible codecs.
iTunes can not work if Quicktime does not.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are know to cause problems with Quickitme.
The list of problem codecs may not be complete, suspect any recently installed codec or converter software.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • Cant start iTunes or quicktime

I have just bought my first ipod and installed the package from the start page. However i cannot start itunes or quicktime. I get the well known "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close......"
I have tried reinstalling 10 times and to run msconfig as mentioned somewhere in the support forum.
What am i doing wrong? Why done a new purchase start with this?
    Brgds Veilstrup

I am getting this exact same problem too - the message is the one you get if a programme closes unexprectedly in the middle of something you're doing (ie the programme has opended up OK and you're in it), BUT iTunes hasn't even opened up yet (or quick time) - it happnens whilst I'm trying to open iTunes. If I try to open QuickTime on its own the same thing happens. The frustrating thing is that the message itself gives you no clue as to what the problem is as it's not an error message as such.
I have re-installed iTunes (with QuickTime) twice and nothing changes.
    Can anyone help?

  • Itunes nor quicktime wont open on windows 7

my itunes nor quicktime wont open i uninstalled and installed itunes i tried disabling bonjour i added a new users i did a virus scan i am all out of ideas i need major help

    Many thanks.
I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those error-message-free launch failures for both iTunes and the QuickTime Player.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    I cant start Itunes..."Error 7 (windows error 14001)"
    What I have to do?

Just in case the component being referenced is not part of iTunes but is rather part of one of the other related programs, it might be worth trying a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related componentry, as per the following troubleshooting document:

  • Niether iTunes nor Quicktime will start up?

I've been through **** with this installation. What happens, is:
I'll click the iTunes or Quicktime link, it says it's loading. It appears on the process list for about 3 seconds, then gos away. It doesn't flash the iTunes screen or anything.
Even if I go into program files and manually open them, nothing happens.
-I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes.
-I've tried disabling my firewall, then reinstalling.
-I've tried uninstalling K-lite Codec pack (even though i'd really like to have it >< )
-I've tried uninstalling the bonjour service/Apple updater/ect, reinstalling them, still fail.
Finally, I tried uninstalling Quicktime. I first tried Windows Uninstaller, it said "Fatal error with installation". Then, I tried an unistaller program named Tuneup, it gave me:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."
It says "Installer", but i was trying to unistall.
Anyways, I went through and downloaded Quicktime, then tried repairing. Didn't work, I still can't run the program nor can I unistall it. :/
I know quiet a bit about computers, this is probably the first time in a year that i've had to ask for help with something like this.. I'm pretty lost. x_x
    Thanks for any help.

Okay i read through all those articles.
I used Filemon liek that guy suggested, and I get little to no errors. The only error i really got, was when i run filemon, a few of the Querys-
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/CLBCATQ.DLL was not found.
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/COMres.dll was not found.
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/xpsp2res.dll was not found.
But i think thats common? Even when i run Firefox i get a lot of not foudn errors. Could you check your quicktime directory and see if those files are there?
Anyways, the program seems to start up fine (from FileMon's point of view), it gos and gos until it gets to this step of the process:
    WRITE C:/DOCUME~1/Admin/LOCALS~1/Temp/Quicktimepalyer
    Which is also,
    C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temp
It says the write is successful, but the program ends there.
When I install, there's just a whole bunch of "Directory does not exist" and "File Missing" errors through FileMon. But it's like that with any installation.
If there's permission settings on the Temp folder, I don't know how to check or how to change them @_@

Have you tried removal of all related programs with installer cleanup of any that don't uninstall? I wonder if a problem with Apple Software update is at the root of this, but it is probably best to go straight to the full removal.
Here is a method for removal, cleanup and install.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Can't upgarde or remove iTunes nor QuickTime.

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my iTunes ver. 8; when trying to install the new version I get the following error message:
"The installation of QuickTime did not complete succefully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
I tried installing QT seperately (the version which doesn't include iTunes in it) but than I get a message saying:
"Upgrading QT requires the latest version of iTunes ... continue?" -- catch 22!?
and when I hit next it says that QT encountered errors.
Another thing I tried was uninstalling QT/iTunes using the add/remove program but in both cases got the same error message saying:
    "Fatal error during in stallation".
I'm out of ideas... please help!
    Thank you, S.

    "Fatal error during in stallation".
Interesting ... I wonder if you've had some other program (other than QuickTime) drop old QuickTime componentry in unorthodox places on the PC? That can be associated with "Fatal error" messages with uninstalling QuickTime. (Your other symptoms don't look so familiar in the context of that sort of problem ... but the symptoms for that type of issue are in a near-constant state of flux.)
Let's go looking to see if that type of problem might be afoot.
You'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in XP.
QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.

I did try to reinstall it often (like 5 times), but its always the same message, so I hope you might be able to help me, and know what I have to do.

  • Cant start iTunes with Windows Vista installed

I have a problem starting the application iTunes. When i start i get a message that the folder iTunes cant be created, and the program have to use this folder to work. Vhen i press "OK" the program is closing.

Apple, apparently, had a fix up for an earlier version of itunes, but that is gone from the web page, and has been yanked.
Yes, there are big problems with iTunes for Windows. Until these are rectified, your Ipod will be a paper weight.

  • Cant run itunes, have QuickTime 7.5 but says I need 7.5.5 and can't find it anywhere

I have been having problems with my computer. reinstalled MAC OS X as directed and now have my internet back but can't get into my itunes. It indicates that I need to have Quicktime 7.5.5 and I have Quicktime 7.5.
I just keep going in circles and have no idea how to fix.

Let's try installing a QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Cant install itunes or quicktime

I recently got a new computer (windows 7 x64) and went to download itunes onto it. Everytime I do I get an error saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I extracted the files and i am able to individually install bonjour, mobile device support, and application support. I cannot install the itunes.msi or the applesoftwareupdate.  I get the same error message when I try to do so.  The same thing happens when I try to install quicktime normally or via an extracted folder.  (quicktime is not part of the itunes extracted folder, does quicktime not come with itunes anymore?)
Ive looked around and saw that  the main solution seems to be to "repair" the file in the add or remove programs folder.  However, I cannot do that because I am unable to install the apple software file, so applesoftwareupdate is not in the add or remove programs folder.  I have tried removing all apple related files, using both "fix it" and Revo, and restarting the download.  I still get the same error message. I am completly at a loss here. Any help would be amazing and appreciated.

b noir, Sorry, my mistake. Quicktime isnt even in the extracted folder, it is not installed on my computer currently.  I swear I thought I got it to install, I guess not.  I get the same error message when I try to install quicktime. Maybe I can try the same trick with an older version of itunes that comes with quicktime?
The extracted itunes folder has appleapplicationsupport, applemobiledevicesupport64, applesoftwareupdate, bonjour64, itunes64, and setupadmin. I can not install applesoftwareupdate, or itunes64.msi and setupadmin doesnt seem to do anything when i open it.
When I try to install itunes64.msi I get the same error message. It automatically installs the other files just like trying to install the normal, unextracted itunes64setup.  applesoftwareupdate seems to be the culprit here.

  • I cant start itunes after i tried to install the new update PLEASE HELP

Every time i try to open it it said iTune.exe - Entry Point Not Found then it said The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll. And i tried re-installing it and it went through but it just wont open.

Hello. No message shown. The downloading does not complete at all, I tried like 20 times but no one worked. The closest I was to downloaded it, was with 66 mb (the new version has 66.1)  As stated on the web page of apple I uninstalled itunes and all its accesories or common programs. Now I am unable to install the new version and I am more frustrating since I did it to sincronized it wit my new ipad!  In consequence, no message at all, the downloading simply stops at 49%, 67% or 99% :(
    Thank you for your time!!

  • ITunes and Quicktime crash on start.

Okay, I've been struggling with this one for days.
I'm running Widows 7 64bit. I had iTunes working fine for a couple weeks, then just last week I started having issues. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleaned the registry, uninstalled video drivers, booted in safe mode, installed QuickTime separately, uninstalled and tried iTunes 7 and 8, used the 32bit install instead of the 64bit and still nothing works. This is driving me batty because now I can't update my iPhone which is really annoying. I've looked all over the net and no one seems to be able to help me.
*The problem*: When I start iTunes or Quicktime (including any of the executables in the Quicktime folder) nothing happens for about two seconds then I get the standard Windows error iTunes or Quicktime "has stopped working" check online for solutions...

Hi all - I have solved this - I remember I uninstalled a codec pack and since then Quicktime failed to work.
To solve the problem, I downloaded the latest standalone version of Quicktime and uninstalled Quicktime from my system, then reinstalled using the standalone version.
Worked a dream...... Hopes this helps someone else
