Cant start up

I have had my pb for 3- 4 years now and recently I have been experiencing some power issues similarly discussed by other users. The PB if not plugged in just goes dead ( to black) at about 75% power. Now I can live with this as I have kept it plugged in.
However it has also been making noises recently, squeak- humming.
The main problem being that today is that I did not have it plugged in and it died which I am used to. Though I now cant get it to start up fully.
I pressed the power button and get the chime and then a white/grey screen then after a while the apple then after a while the spinning timer which just keeps going.
I have turned it on and off a couple of times but nothing more. Also during this process I had the apple change to a no entry sign.
Am I completey screwed? I am in Spain on work for 4 weeks and need to know whether this is repairable or I will need to by a new one. Also my applecare is out.

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Sounds like a couple of things going on - perhaps time for a new battery.
Since you're away from home on work, you probably don't have your OS X DVDs with you. If you do, however, run the Apple Hardware Test. Insert the first OS X DVD that came with the system (will say 'AHT Version x.x' in small print), reboot holding the option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, click on the arrow to the right, and follow directions. Choose the extended test. Does it shed any light on the condition? Or, if you go to a local Apple store, they might have some PowerBook OS X dvd's to run the Apple Hardware Test for you.
You probably have hard drive issues, although they might be recoverable. If you have access to OS X DVD's you could boot holding the C key down, which boots from DVD, and run Disk Utility to analyze/fix the hard drive. You could try a safe boot, holding the space key down. That does some disk maintenance in the background. If that works, try a normal boot.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

trying to install the newest version of itunes on my pc and am getting  "program cant start because msvcr80.dll is missing from your computer"  reinstalling doesnt work.  and then it says error 7 (windows error 126).  Any help would be appreciated.  Using Windows 7 enterprise on an hp Z600

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

    I cant start Itunes..."Error 7 (windows error 14001)"
    What I have to do?

Just in case the component being referenced is not part of iTunes but is rather part of one of the other related programs, it might be worth trying a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related componentry, as per the following troubleshooting document:

  • S.M.A.R.T error i cant start my Macbook Air

i cant start my Macbook Air

Backup all of your files immediately if not sooner!
    Your hard drive is failing.
You can either have the failing drive replaced ( if older Mac and no extended AppleCare, this won't be too expensive to replace) or purchase an external hard drive.
You need, at least one external hard drive to both partition for a data backup drive and to install and boot/run OS X Mavericks simultaneously.
If you have an older iMac that has FireWire 800 connection on the back, purchase an external FW800 so that your iMac can run OS X Mavericks from that drive as fast as it can.
If your iMac is even older and only has FireWire 400 most newer FW drives can run at the slower FW speed.
This is still faster than a USB 2.0 style external hard drive.
Purchase Mac compatible external hard drives from here.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
You may, at some point, consider purchasing a second external hard drive for using just as a data backup drive.
    Good Luck!,

  • Upgraded libx*** and now i cant start firefox [Solved]

Well i did a pacman -Syu , noticed lots of x libs upgrading and then rebooted , now i cant start firefox , this is the terminal output
The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
    (Details: serial 1033 error_code 1 request_code 154 minor_code 2)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Any ideas how to fix this ??

Same problem here for every applications... Posted a thread here too http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=21050, didn't see yours.
