Cant switch graphic cards

Hello,
I can´t switch from AMD Radeon HD 8610G (low performance graphic processor) to AMD Radeon R7 M260 (High performance graphic processor). Catalyst control center not enables me to choose grafic processor for application.... there are only choices "high performance", "energy saving" or "by power supply". But anyone of theese choices will not set R7 M260 for application. App is still running on HD 8610G.
Thanks
Roman

@Kyborg ,
Hello and thank you again for posting back. There is a bit of confusion here.  Your system only has one graphics card.  It is actually built into the motherboard.  The other R5 that is showing in the spec sheet under the Processor section is I believe a misprint.  It is the AMD Quad-Core A8-6410 APU.
Here is a link you can look at.  This may be able to assist you in finding out the full functionality of your graphics card.  If your system is one with the switchable Graphics.  However in your case it is not.
HP Notebook PCs - Overview of Switchable Graphics or Dual GPUs
Basically you have a combo chip and that is the CPU.  Even though it shows that it has the A5 GPU it is not your graphics card.  All the graphics are being run off your AMD Radeon R7 M260 Graphics (2 GB DDR3L dedicated)
I hope this helps.  Thank you again and have a great day.

I've googled around and found that you switch Graphic cards with this green battery icon at the bottom right
i cannot find this icon, a similar icon does not allow me to switch the cards, devices only show a standard graphics card, not the more powerful one
My friend installed the OS for me, is there a way i can switch cards?

Hey don't give up yet. Sounds like video drivers are not installed on your ideapad. First identify which video card your system has:- http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers.html
Then go to proceeding link to download driver for it:-

  • MacBook Pro will not boot after switching graphics cards

    Dear All,
I have a late-2008 unibody MacBook Pro. I have had it since April 2009, and I have not encountered any real problems with it.
Yesterday, I switched to the 9600 graphics card for the first time since purchasing the machine. It logged me out as expected, but then proceeded to flash a blank blue screen at me for 20 minutes. Assuming that this was not normal, I powered down the computer by holding the power button. I powered it on again, and it will not get past the Apple symbol screen with the loading whirligig. I left it on for seven hours (overnight), and no change.
I booted it from the install disc and ran the Disk Utility verify and repair. It either gives me no problem or a block count error, which goes away when I run repair. I tried running verify on permissions, but this gives me a "failed to exit" or some such error, same with repair permissions. Restarting gives me the same apple logo screen until forever.
I've tried resetting PRAM, doing the battery removal and holding power button for 5 seconds, I've tried booting in safe mode (it won't), and doing an archive and install (which it can't do either, as it can't access my HDD or something). I've run the disk utility verify and repair several times.
I unfortunately don't have a recent backup (slapping myself), so I'm open to suggestions before going into despair over my $2600 paperweight before doing an erase and install...
    Thanks in advance!
PS: is there a way to open the computer in target disk mode via the install cd so that I CAN back it up?
    Message was edited by: Kaklz

Thanks, Joe. That may be an option if all else fails. I don't currently own an enclosure, so I am looking for an alternative before spending any money (I know, "frugal Apple user" is unheard of, but...).
I do have an old G3 tower, which I am using in the meantime, so if I can use this to open my MBP in target disk mode (or some other way of making a backup), I'd be overjoyed!

Iam tring to install nvidia graphics card(PCI) to my MS6166 mother board but cant get new drivers to work,I have disabled on board graphics via jumper on board but new graphics card still wont work.

    Anybody had same problem?

Well, have you tried leaving the monitor cable connected to the onboard VGA and tried booting up? Sometimes you need to disable it within BIOS.

  • W500 switching graphics card

Hi, so on my w500 laptop specs, it says that it has 512 MB ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 graphics card that is switchable to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD. I want to switch to the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator but I can't seem to figure out how to do it- I was told it was easy, but I'm not having much luck. If anyone could help me, that would be awesome, thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Which OS are you using? The switchable feature only works in Win Vista and 7.
    Maybe this will help:-
"How do I tell the system to switch my graphics adapter?
To switch graphics adapters, left-click on the ThinkVantage Power Managerbattery icon in the system notification area. At the bottom of the pop-up menu there will be a Switchable Graphics sub-menu.
Note: Changing ThinkVantage Power Manager from Basic mode (default) to Advanced mode will cause the menu to look different. The menu will no longer be transparent and the slider is replaced with a list of schemes. The Switchable Graphics sub-menu is still at the bottom."

  • Switching graphics card when on battery

I have a W540 with the nvidia K1100M graphics card. I'm trying to configure my laptop so that when I'm running on battery power, ALL programs use the integrated graphics adapter. When I'm plugged to AC in I'd like ALL programs to use the nvidia card.
I've looked into the nvidia optimus program, but it seems like it has a different card selection philosophy that isn't quite what I'm after.
Is there a way I can achieve this? It seems like a very straightforward config.
    Thanks!

True, but you'd still have to restart all of your existing processes. Worse, if something like DWM ends up on discrete, you'd be stuck with high power consumption until you stop and restart it.
If the caveats are acceptable, you can probably script switching between "Auto-select graphics processor" and "Integrated only" as found in the NVIDIA Control Panel and set the program list according to AC power conditions. You'd also probably bypass the NVIDIA Control Panel itself and toggle the setting in the registry directly (don't know if it's actually in the registry) or using a CLI tool (don't know of one).

  • Crashing with Skitch, Snapz Pro, Fast User Switching - graphics card issue?

Noticed this issue when I switched back to a G5 from a Mac Pro.
Clean install of the OS and apps but Skitch locked the machine when accessing prefs etc. in the app. Then discovered Snapz Pro locked the machine when attempting to screen grab. Now, after creating a new user account and activating Fast User Switching the machine locks when switching to the new user.
Could this be an Open GL or Quartz Extreme issue? Ran Xbench and everything went fine. Normal day to day use of the machine is sound.
System Profiler tells me this about the graphics card:
    *ATI Radeon X800 XT:*
    Chipset Model: ATY,R420
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4a48
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-A35801-109
I just flashed the ROM to 109 (from 108) today, but still have the issue.
    Thoughts?

    Malcom,
If I turn it off, then I lose the ability to jump between users without having to kill everything I'm doing. Yes, that does solve the problem, but only because it removes the cause of the problem. I'm trying to find a solution to the issue.

  • New Catalyst - can't switch graphic card

    Hi,
I recently updated Catalyst control center to the version 14.11.2 Beta to solve crashing problem with Dragon Age 3. However, since then I cannot manually switch between graphic cards, the option simply dissappeared in this version. Am I missing anything or the option is really no longer there?

  • Install Win7 with no Lenovo software - still switch graphics cards?

I'm thinking of wiping our T500 and installing Win7 Pro without any Lenovo software.  Will I still be able to switch between the dual graphics cards (discrete/onboard)? And I assume the special key combinations won't work anymore? Thanks

As long as you install the necessary drivers and software components from the T500 driver matrix, it should be fully functional. That said, you won't benefit from the Enhanced Experience of the Lenovo preload.

  • No display switched graphics card

So at work I've used two different towers--a 2007 Mac Pro, and lately a 2009 Mac Pro tower. I made the switch because the 07, while generally decently fast, was having some harddrive errors and making me a bit nervous about how long it would last.
The ideal swap was to move my user to the 2009 tower, which has better specs in most everything BUT graphics card--and then swap the graphics cards. The 2007 had a ATI Radeon x1920 xt and the 2009 came with a Nvidia GeForce GT120.
My coworker and I swapped the graphics cards and put the Radeon in the 2009 and the Nvidia in the 2007 and booted both machines--but neither had a display. The machines booted up, just... black, no display connection at all. We switched back to make sure we hadn't broken anything--worked just fine.
The 2009 machine already had drivers for both brands--Nvidia and ATI. I tried researching online but the general consensus among the Apple crowd is that the machine should already have the drivers, and at least display should be a given?
Seems like this is a simple problem! I must be missing a really basic step, simply because I've not done it before, don't know the process, and can't find a specific tutorial online.
Also, the Radeon required an additional power source, but it was plugged in. I can't think of anything to troubleshoot beyond this, I really don't know enough.

The card you mentioned (Radeon X1920) is not offically supported on any model Mac Pro:
Mac Pro (all models): Graphics card compatibility between models
If you mean the X1900, that does not support 64-bit kernel, so it will not work in 2008 and later models.

  • Manually switching graphics card on T410S (with switchable graphics)??

Hi - does anyone know if it is possible to manually control what graphics card to use?
I can set it in the power plan options, but I want to set it manually too. I might need to use internal graphics even if I have power on, or the discrete graphics on battery, and that is not reflected weill in the "timed" options you get through the Power Plan.  There is no way to set it with the Notification Area icon, or through the Nvidia control panel :-/
    regards
    Lars

It probable just needs a good switch "kick" in the nvram noggin' is all!
Try zapping pram/nvram or open firmware. Any drivers for Radeon are part of OS X.
You could look on ATI but I don't think you need these.

  • HT3207 Can't switch graphic cards

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro (mid-2009) osx 10.6.8 and I want to change the graphics performance. I read that there's an option under Energy Saver.
Unfortunately the supposedly graphics options "better battery life/higher performance" are not available in my Energy Saver window.
Please advise and thanks for your help.

  • Cant replace graphic card

I have IPISB-CH motherboard and i want graphic card. I dont need anithing fancy, only for work. So i first bought Asus Nvidia GT720 and it did not work. Computer wont boot, its stuck on boot screen with BIOS beeping every 20 sec etc. googled it and figure that i have compatibility issue. Ok... weird but ok. So i went to the store and bought lowest card that they had, Gigabyte HD 5450 1024MB crap and it doest work either. Now when i plug it it monitor just goes to sleep when i turn it on..
Ive tried updating bios, chaging cables, and checked graphic on my other PC it works, so apparently this crapy motherboard needs something special. Since there is no list online my question is WHAT TO BUY???

I've found your MoBo specs, but what is the model number of the desk top that it's out off ?
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02854392
It's probably the MoBo, but I am also thinking that your power supply isn't up to the task as well.

  • Switching graphics cards in bootcamp?

i use vista64 via bootcamp for gaming on my early 2009 unibody macbook pro. i know in the mac side you go to system prefs to change which card to use, but how do i select it for the Vista side of things? i want to make sure im using the better card when playing games over there.

You can't switch in Windows. In Boot Camp, the MBP will use the 9600 card only (you can't change that). Since that's the better card, that's the one you'd want to use for gaming anyway - so, it's not an issue for you (it is an issue for those who are seeking better battery life in Windows, though).
