  • Power switch on Zen Micro not working. Hold works, though. It turns on if I plug it

I was given my friend's Zen Micro because it was broken.
So I opened it up and managed to fix it...but it only turns on when I plug it in to the PC.
I can switch the hold button across and it holds (the padlock shows up on screen), but I can't actually switch it on or off at all.
To turn it off I have to wait 'till it idles out.
And to turn it on... I have to plug it in, like I said.
What could I do to fix it's The switch looks normal on the circuit board...but I can't help but think that something inside the switch has become disconnected...but it's a bit too small to actually take apart.
The only alternati've I can think of is to buy a wired remote...but that's my last resort.

OK, your Zen Micro worked with your older computer, correct?
Was your older computer an XP machine or an earlier version of Windows?
As far as I know, XP requires the PlaysForSure firmware to work with your Zen Micro. You need Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player 0 too.
You can find the drivers, firmware and software that you need by clicking the Support menu on the Creative banner at the top of the page-> Downloads->MP3 Players-> Zen-> Zen Micro, select your language and Operating System and then the drivers, firmware and software that you need.
Be sure to click the <i>Show Details...</i> pop-up for more information and instructions.

  • HELP i cant charge my zen micro! (power adaptor troubl

I own a pink creative zen micro 5gig MP3 player. when i bought it, a special edition USB.2.0 power adaptor came with it, which is exclusi've to the 5gig zen micro mp3 players. this adaptor plugs into the wall, and charges the player, meaning i can charge my player anywhere without a computer.
well, now its stopped working. the charge just does not go through to the player, and i know it is because of a problem with the adaptor and not the player because the player still works when i connect it to a computer.
this is seriously irritating beacuse for some reason the player takes a huge amount of time to charge using my computer (as i write this it has been charging for almost and hour and the little charge level indicator in the corner of the screen has not changed from "completely empty")
what could be causing this and how do i fix it's

    Starryeyefly wrote:
well, i've just figured out that for my player to charge through the computer, the zen software that comes with the player and allowes you to transfer music has to be installed. (kinda dumb for me not to realise, but it does seem rather unnessesary)
It's not needed, at least you need to update to one of the later firmwares. I suggest using the ..0 firmware, but you want to charge your battery up a bit first before trying to update.
With the ..0 firmware (and the later v2 firmwares) you can lock the charger (slide the power button over) then connect to USB and all the power is dedicated to charging the player.
but that still dosent solve the problem with the wall adaptor. no indicator shows when i plug it in, it just wont charge.
i used to leave the adaptor plugged into the wall when my player had finished charging, with the power socket left on. im starting to think that it may have screwed the adaptor.
I'm not sure what's up with your player or adapter. An adapter could fail but it's very rare. If you have a voltage meter you can check the outputs from the first and fourth pin, which should be 5V. Be careful though.
Leaving the adapter plugged in won't cause any issue to it, other than wasting a little electricity.

  • Zen micro "hang

Bought zen micro for 2 months now. Then just now when i switched on zen micro, it "hanged" at the zen micro menu. i removed and replaced the battery and it undergo re-arranging mode and "hanged" too. wat should i do when it happens again? then when i reached home, i plug it into the com and become normal again..is this a common problem?

I don't remember hearing this before.
If you run a disk cleanup manually does it work? To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro. To access the Rescue Mode: remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position and KEEP IT HELD TO "ON" while reinserting the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.

  • HELP!! Zen Micro- USB Device Unknown Not Recognized!!! HEL

I cant get my zen micro connected. i just bought this zen used and it came with firmware v2.xx. i couldnt connect via usb so i tried reloading the os thinking it would return to factory loaded firmware, but it didnt and now i cant reinstall any firmware. elp!!

I just noticed this is a duplicate thread.
Despite this the two things I would recommend are:
. See if you can find another PC with XP and WMP0 to see if the player is detected. If it isn't then it sounds more like a problem with the player.
    2. Look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net for lots of advice on MTP connection problems.

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • Zen Micro switches itself back on - any solutions plea

    Morning All...
Another question from a newbie.........please don't shout if this is on the board somewhere as I couldn't find this problem........
My Zen Micro has been perfectly well behaved for most of its life but has recently begun to switch itself back on - even if I lock it in the off position. Customer support have been rather unhelpful so far with only standard replies about software probs. This fault happens with both the batteries so I'm guessing its a hardware fault. It doesn't get over used & hasn't been mistreated - it just started doing this of its own free will ! There's a ghost in my machine!
I've done a search on the board & can only find problems switching on - I have the complete opposite! It means the battery keeps draining & I don't realise until I pick it up to use it..... It takes about 4 attempts to shut down completely & even then, I don't trust it to stay off all day......
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone know how to solve it or will it require a replacement maybe? It's still in warrenty but about 0 months old..........
    Many thanks for any ideas.......
    Mach

    Hi
Many thanks for such a fast response!
    To reply;
. I didn't know it had an alarm! So it seems highly unlikely (I hope!) that I have set it. Can you tell me how its done so that I can check that I haven't........
    2. Where is the customer support based in the uk please? the email replies have been less than helpful as they include suggestions like this....& they have no other contact info than the email.
Plug out the headphone then switch off your player. After which plug in the headphone again.Does the player switch itself on?Then switch off your player with the headphone connected,After which plug out the headphone.Does your player switch itself on?
I'm not the most technically minded of people but I'd already advised them that this fault occurs no matter which battery is installed which indicates to me that its hardware at fault & so how can taking the headphones out solve that? (It doesn't by the way!) 3. Perhaps I wasn't clear about the problem - it doesn't switch back on at a set time - it does this the moment I've switched it off & keeps doing it until it gives in about 4 or 5 attempts later then it will stay off....or else I just take the battery out which is a drastic option but the best I could think of stuck on a train!
I love my little micro & have persuaded others to buy them as well but if its going to throw a wobbly like this then I can't recommend it anymore........ : (
Has anyone else seen this problem.... It just seems so weird!
I would refer to customer support if they would give me a UK phone number & address.......so I could talk to a human being.........
    Any info on this please?
    thanks once again!

  • I can recharge my Zen Micro VIA USB, but I cant transfer songs....

    Hello,
Using the USB Port on my PC, I can successfully recharge my Zen Micro. But for some reason, I cant transfer music to it. Whenever I go to the "Zen Micro Media Explorer", I always get an explorer error for some reason, and it says "Zen Micro Not Connected"
I try other programs, such as WindowsMedia Player, real player, and NOTMAD Explorer, and they cant connect to the Zen Micro either (player not connected error)
Does anyboy know why? And can anybody please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for all the input.
    I've Solved the problem!
I called up Creative Tech Support, and they said to reinstall the software, which I did. Now it works perfectly. Thanks for all the support though. I think Creative's tech support is good, not as bad as people claim it to be.

  • Zen Micro lose Power when Switched OFF??

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me. I fully charged my Zen Micro last night and then left it and just switch it on for the first time now (8 hours later), and the battery indicator shows 2 bars left?
Seems like the Zen Micro loses power even when switched off!?!
Can anyone confirm that this is the case and whether I can do anything to stop it from happening? Is this normal with Hard Dri've MP3 player or only with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks.

<EDIT: (April st, 2005):<<FONT color=#330000>JazzMC has taken the initiati've and written a sort of FAQ and put together a website with all the information to date gathered in one place regarding this power drain of the Zen Micro while off (in standby). It's a great read for those who want more information about the subject and probably easier than wading through this thread.<FONT color=#330000>You can view the document by clicking here: <Zen Micro Power Loss<. <FONT color=#330000>Thanks JazzMC!
Ditto here. I did do a disk cleanup last week and the micro seems to be holding it's charge longer now. It's still draining the battery while sitting idle though according to the bar indicator, but slower (go figure?). This is my only real issue with the Zen Micro as I love it otherwise!
One wierd thing I noticed was I charged it full then left it sit for about 3 days (checking it off and on) then on day 3 it was at one bar. So I plugged it into my home sterio and turned it on to see how long it would play for. I was really surprised to see it last a few minutes shy of 9 hours...
Could this be a battery calibration thing instead of it just loosing charge? Like the meter misreads the batteries actual charge over time instead of it loosing power?
Donno it's wacky, please fix Creative!

  • Cant use Napster to go and zen micro windows explor

If i want to use my napster to go and have to use firmware --02, but if I want to use zen micro win explorer it wont recog. my device so I have to upgrade to firmware -2-05 erasing all my dl songs from napster....what i want to do is use my zen micro to upload cd's I own and use nap to go, not one or the other.....btw I woke up today and my micro is dead no matter what I try....so let me figure that out now.....should I take this back? my battery life is only like 6hrs!!!....anyway i want to like this so if anyone can help me out?

i see a lot of threads about charging the battery.
i sell high end digital cameras, have for 6 years now. i'm not talking the stuff you find at fry's but the really high end stuff.
this stuff also uses proprietary lithium ion batteries (actually the only thing proprietary is the connectors, all cells come from the same manufacturers)
the key to lithium ion batteries is:
) let it charge overnight the first time you charge it
    2) it takes about 3 full charges and full drains to get the proper life out of it
    3) they dont have memory, ever. i have several abused lithium ion camera batteries that can attest to this
    4) replace after 8 months without fail
my point is, don't stress over it. my micro only got about 7 hours of continous playback with eq on and it just sitting there, and not much more with eq off. the player's life on a single charge and constant crashing when switching off are the only reasons why i returned it on sunday for an ipod mini.

ryonavin wrote:I would recommend trying to reset it. When you take the battery out there is a little hole that you can stick the end of a paperclip or a ballpoint pen into to flip the reset switch. That fixes most of the issues.
DON'T DO THIS! The small hole on the Micro is NOT a reset switch! It's the MICROPHONE!
To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro you need to remove the battery. While replacing the battery in the back of the player, switch the power button over and keep it held over. The player should boot up into Rescue Mode and from there you should be able to select Clean Up. This acts as a defrag of your firmware and should reset the player to default. If this doesn't work or the player freezes during the clean up try a Format All ( this will erase all media on the hard disk) Again, if this freezes or hangs, the player will most likely need to be replaced.

  • Zen Micro automatically switches back

I have a problem with my Zen micro where it automatically turns itself back on when i don't even touch it. It is the same problem with both batteries. I turn it off, then a couple seconds later it switches back on. This is very annoying because i have to take out the battery to keep it shut off! This problem along with the headphone jack has made me realize that Creative products are faulty. I think the zen micro is almost perfect in functionality but the other issues cause it to lose my interest in it. Does anyone know why it keeps turning on automatically?Message Edited by cheaplikeafox on 04-8-2005 0:25 PM

Also make sure you don't have the alarm turned on (though reloading the firmware should reset all this).
If you're still having problems then, I would recommend you contact Customer Support directly.

  • Zen Micro. I cant transfer the mu

Hi everybody. My english is bad but i will try to explain my problem though. I have a Zen Micro 5 giga since 3 years. I have the last firmware in it. I dont format since or maybe more year couse i have a lots of music inside. Many many times, when i try to transfer music using Zen Micro Media Explorer the green line stops and the Micro doesnt work anymore. So after i have to go into recovery mode. When i clean the % goes over 800%, sometimes 000%. For "cleaning" it takes at least 2/3 minuts. After i reboot. The 2? or 3. time i can transfer the music (by now). Sometimes i have to convert with Altomp3 Gold the songs i cant transfert from Mp3 to Mp3 but using the default settings of this softwere (28bit)My questions are:Why i cant transfer music at the first try?I should format often? Why the "cleaning" goes over 800%?Thank's for any answer

  • Zen Micro Power Switch Prob

I have had my 6gb Zen Micro for about a month now and have been very pleased. But this morning, to my horror, when I woke up and tried to turn it on the power switch wouldn'work. My Micro still turns on if you put the battery in, and the hold feature still works, but when I shift the switch to the left to turn it on or off nothing happens. I haven't droppped it once or messed with anything in it. I don't know what to do. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone have any advice on something to try or what to do?

My Zen Micro has recently developed the same problem. I contacted Support, and they have informed me that I have to pay a $25 fee to get it fixed, and that amount could grow based on the cost of repairs. Quite frankly, I'm upset. This is twice that the player has failed. I RMA'd the first due to a headphone jack problem (which was caused by faulty wiring, which Creative will refuse to admit). This second player has a similar issue. The electronic contacts must not be built/soldered correctly. I will not be recomending this player to anyone I care about, as Creative has proven to have terrible support and exquisitely terrible design. I will not be purchasing another Creative product, due to my lack of confidence in this player. Creative has not even made an attempt to solve my problem, only directing me to the self-guided website that merely showed how unresponsi've their support really is. They have now supplied me with RMA information for my refurbished player, to send into them. I will not likely send this player in. Instead, I'll go peddle the piece of junk off on Ebay, and take the money and put it towards a player that's been proven to be more reliable than Creative's Zen series - an iPod. I know that word is almost a profanity in these forums, but Creative hasn't left me much of a choice. Goodbye Creative, I hope you won't miss my money. As much as I don't like to support Apple, I'm going to now. So enjoy your angered and frustrated Zen users who you don't seem to want to serve. Maybe once you start making quality products again, I might consider buying in.

  • Zen Micro switch probl

I've had my Zen Micro for a while now, it was problem free, and I was quite satisfied in it's preformance, but suddenly it's been plagued with a major problem. I can't turn it on without removing the battery and putting it back in, and the only way to shut it down is to wait for the idle shutdown. The switch will move into hold mode, and will (after several thousand attempts) turn on every once in a blue moon. I would send it in, but it's now out of warranty.
I would be happy to send it in somewhere for repair, but I don't know where. Any thoughts or fixes?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Thank you guys. Of course getting the update in was an adventure. Here is what I did.
. Asked my son if he had updated firmware / software - of course he had.
    2. Tried the Micro on his laptop to see if it worked there - it did
    3. Removed all Creative SW, downloaded new SW
    3. Tried to install the SW - did not work as it wanted a connected Micro and since mine could not be seen.
    4. Installed all the Creative SW from CD
    5. Then tried to install the update. Again was asked to make sure the Micro was connected and powered on, did this hoping for the best (see 3 above). It worked
    6. Am now transferring files.
