  • Using accents/special characters in keyboard WAY TOO SLOW!

I'm often using french, and thus many words have many accents (just a short phrase exemple : l'été passé j'ai dû boire l'amère potion de la déception... A short sentence, 5 accents. Can be worse).
I'm typing pretty fast, and already getting frustrated because the french keyboard doesn't have the ' included, which would save so much time in contractions. (Would probably be added automatically if I could use the corrector, but I can't, cause switching from french to english all the time, I just get stupid jumble all the time).
But the worst of the worst is each time I need to type an accented letter, I lose 2.5 seconds! Because that's how long it takes for the accents options to pop-up after I hold my finger on the letter...
    It's completely ridiculous!
Typing a short 3 letter word like "été" takes over 6 seconds!
    It makes me so mad!
I almost completely stopped writing my french emails or Facebook updates and such from my iPod Touch and prefer to wait until I'm on my MBP! Is that normal when you have the chance to own the Touch?!
I've contacted Apple about this many months ago, but like any complaint I've had in the past, never heard of them.
Has anyone else have such a delay with the accents/special characters keyboard (popups)?
Is there something I can do?

Simply copy and paste. Just did it and it worked. Perhaps I'm not understanding something. What do you mean by "insert a font."

  • Special Characters issue in DEV and QAS

    Hi,
I am uploading a file that has special characters (Japanese).
In the DEV system the special character is converted to #. Which the business wants.
In QAS system the special character is not converted and is as it is, which makes the business users difficult to find out if any speical characters are there and they don't want the special character as it is
The file consists millions of record with a possibility of four or five records with special characters
The special characters on keyboards is not an issue.
The programs in DEV and QAS system are same and the file tested is also the same but different results.
Tried in Tcode SNLS to find something but didn't know what and where to look into.
What could be the issue in this? Looks like this is Basis issue but would like to know if anyone can let me know.......
    Regards
    Sandeep

    Hi ,
i want to check ur open dataset statement in the program which is being used here if at all in ur case.
Can you please check the relavant code page in both the D and Q systems and search with the appropriate hexa decimal values(for the special characters ) in both the systems ..
u can use code page by tcode scp ..
ex -> as u say a special char sp1 is having entry in q and code page which is being used (like 4200 )
is not having in d03 .
then if in d03 this page has no entry then it shows as # , since it is showing in q then it has an entry over there. this is my guess..
so if at all the client wants not to see this special char's , u need to remove them from this code page.. and check ..
Cant say if this can solve but u can take this as one more way of dealing with code pages  and special chars....
    br vijay..

  • What's wrong with the built-in keyboard on my macbook? The caps button does not work rite, no matter what letter button i push they all come out capitals and the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers!

the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.

You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

  • Why can't I use special characters in my password? This isn't 1995 anymore where a lot of people don't have QWERTY keyboards.

Why does your site not allow the use of special characters in passwords? Do you not want your customers to be as secure as possible?
As a network security admin, limiting passwords to prohibit special characters is an extremely poor security practice.
Telling me that my security as a customer is important, then tell me that your own system limits my ability to keep my account as secure as I would like seems quite backwards. I understand the archaic reasoning was that not all devices have a QWERTY keyboard, this logic is flawed and is no longer necessary.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems, but sometimes a new machine (be it Apple, Dell, whatever) can be defective right out the box - its not unheard of.
If your machine came with defective hardware and is still under warranty (seems to be the case here) then you have nothing to lose taking it back to where you bought it and, if there really is defective hardware present I am sure they'll rectify the problem.
A small note: these problems are not manufacturer-specific - its pointless blaming the manufacturer as I can assure you this happens with ALL brands. Apple supplies quality hardware and software - I know of a user who has had a machine switched on since 1987 without problems

  • Special Characters on the keyboard

Is there a way to assign special characters to particular key sequence? When one needs to write in different languages switching keyboards becomes impractical. There must be a way to assign, say: ą, to a combination of keys such that US keyboard can still be used.

    1) Lots of such characters can be made with the US Extended layout. Here is a list

    2) You can make your own layout with any characters you want with Ukelele

  • Cant type certain kind of letters or special characters on PS

Can you guys please tell me, why I can´t write certain special characters in PS, like " - ; \ ~ " and other special characters like that? I usually could but now i can´t and its stressfull!!
    PS
    Its not the font problem...

Are you getting nothing at all, or the wrong characters when you enter these symbols?
If they're coming up wrong (i.e. you type one thing but another appears on screen), check Windows to see if your keyboard has been switched to another language.  I'm not that familiar with multiple language support, but I believe there are key sequences that will cause the keyboard mapping to switch.

  • Have a problem in Numbers with entering data directly into a cell when a table reaches a certain size and special characters are used?

I am creating a list of words with special characters in some of them. I get to a point where I cannot enter data directly into the cell. I have to use the data entry bar at the top in the toolbar. Any solutions available?
This is the table I am creating...
From row 25 on, I am only able to enter data into the cell through the toolbar at the top and not directly into the cell itself. I believe that this problem originates from the special characters I have inserted in the previous records because if I do not use special characters, then the spreadsheet acts flawlessly. Have there been issues in Numbers with data entry, the size of a table, and using special characters?

I would try removing the rows with "special" characters one at a time to see which one is causing the problem

  • Special Characters Table makes crash Numbers & Pages

    Hello All,
I have a small problem with Numbers & Pages.
When I open the "special characters" table and keep it opened to insert characters, after 3 or 4 insertion, it makes freeze and crash Pages or / and Numbers.
However, I've found out that if I close this "SC" windows after each one or two insertion, and re-open it for next insertion, everything run smoothly. Obviously, this method is very messy if you've got to get special characters twice or three times in every word you're typing.
Anybody has faced the same issue or found a better way to solve it ?
    Thanks
    IanX

    Hello
I never met this behaviour so I made a new try.
I was able to insert the entire set of Greek characters with no problem.
So, I guess that something is wrong in your system.

  • Special characters with English aluminum keyboard

well, considering there's probably no Spanish ISO version of the Apple Keyboard (aluminum) available in the USA, does the English version allow the typing of special characters like ñ, á and ç?

Yes. Press Option+N followed by N, Option+E followed by A, and Option+C respectively to produce those characters. For other characters, open the International pane of System Preferences, turn on the Keyboard Viewer as well as the input menu, and see the keystrokes to produce them.

    This question was solved.

Hold down fn and ctrl then double tap on the right shift to disable blue keys. Same way to turn it on but use single tap on the right shift.

  • How to add special characters into numbers?

Hi, I wonder how can I add special characters like the one in the "Edit" menu for the Mac versions? Thanks.

It all depends what exactly you are talking about, so if you tell us, someone can help you. Some can be made from the keyboard, others you would need to copy/paste from an app like Unicode Map.

  • Keyboard binding special characters

I'm a new Mac/pages user and I'd like to be able to keyboard bind several special characters I use for my legal notes (π, §, Δ) through a command + p, s, d or something similar. It was fairly easy to do so in Office, but I can't seem to get it to work in pages. Pull downs work fine but I'm looking to streamline and the number of time I use, at least, those symbols will slow down productivity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Consider yourself lucky.
France and the EU have intelligently not signed a "Free Trade" agreement with the USA unlike Australia and Canada.
We both got screwed. Big time. Our products are still largely discriminated against and the USA gets protection for excessively long IR, and gets free access to our markets, which it then controls to over charge.
They were whooping with joy in the US Senate when the bills got passed, until they realised we were probably watching, when they put on a straight faced earnest "this will be good for both countries" spin.
Imports from the States have more than doubled whilst our exports to the States have declined. Most of our agricultural and primary exports are still banned from the States under the so called "Free Trade" agreement.
The only satisfaction I have is that the government that signed it was thrown out of power in the previous election. But the damage is done.
