When my T400 goes to sleep running on battery I am not able to take it back to normal. It seems like it is running but screen is blank. Even when I press power button one time nothing works and it is same with the Function Key. I have to shut down by keep pressing the power button and then resart it again. plz can anybody let me know what is going on here?

Hi keepfaith,

    - It is normal and expected for the iPod to be seen as a camera
    - What do you mean " when I put it in hard disk mode"?  iPod touches do not have a disk mode.
    - Does the iPod show in iTunes?  If not try:

  • What will keep a system from sleeping, other than user activity?

If I'm, say, running a long video transcode, will that prevent automatic sleep, or might sleep kick in anyway in the middle of things and possibly screw them up? I think this may have happened, so I'm considering disabling automatic sleep if it presents this sort of liability. TIA... Mark

Programs actively writing to disk should keep a system from sleeping. That said, I've always turned off sleep on my systems when doing important processing, just to be sure. Some software can pause for significant amounts of time and while they should still be keeping the processor working and so prevent sleep, it's not foolproof, so I err on the side of caution and set my systems not to sleep other than the monitor when they're going to be processing for a while.

I'm not terribly concerned with "ExternalMedia" as that always appeared in Mountain Lion as well but never actually prevented my system from putting the monitor to sleep. My concern is with the "UserIsActive" item as it appears to refer to "MAGICWAKE" (a google search only shows an app that I do not have installed and sheds no light on what it means in this context) and points directly to my keyboard and trackpad. Oddly, turning "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in the Bluetooth advanced preferences does not change this, nor does rebooting. The countdown that appears here is always in the 1160 to 1195 range. I'm completly stumped...

  • Cant login after wake from sleep

In the last month I've noticed that sometimes when I wake my mac book pro (from a deep sleep?), I cant login. I enter my password and press enter and the textbox disables as if it is about to login but then nothing happens. It doesn't complete logging in. I cant press escape, I cant type in the password text box anymore, I cant click the button next to textbox. Nothing. I have to do a hard power off. I've cleared NVRAM. Which, consequently, when I do that, the mac book usually hangs at half of the progress bar on the black screen with the apple logo. I can only get the system back up by booting into safe mode and then restarting.
Anyone have any idea how to trouble shoot or fix the login issue?
    Mikey

Sorry to resurrect an old-ish thread but I'm having the EXACT same issue with my MacBook Pro.  I have all the latest OS updates applied..10.6.8 or whatever version is the latest as of 6/27/11.  I have taken it into the Apple store three times now...they've fixed permissions and run all the diagnostics and everything checks out 100%.  I have even done a complete wipe and reinstall of OSX, but it still locks up sometimes when clicking a user on the login screen.
Have you been able to resolve the issue on your system?

  • "Wake from sleep" grayed out and BT firmware updater won't work

I've read a number of postings related to ways to correct the grayed out "wake from sleep" option in the Bluetooth prefs pannel, which is a problem I'm having since switching to a Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The problem I seem to be having is that the Firmware 1.2 updater for the DBT-120 Bluetooth adapter will run, but won't seem to actually flash my adapter (i.e., it won't actually update the device). It is H/W ver: B4, and is plugged directly into a USB port on the back of my fairly new G5 tower, so it seems like it should work.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Dual 2 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

That did the trick! My old G4 tower (Yikes!) was able to flash the BT adapter with the firmware update without a problem, even though my G5 was unable to ever finish the process. Once I plugged the updated adapter into the G5 the "Wake from Sleep" option was available and already selected.
Thanks so much for the tip-- I can finally put this question (and problem) to rest.

  • Can someone interpret this for me? It's a log of system activity that's waking my computer up from sleep, and it may be causing it to lose battery overnight.

I ran a code on terminal, and this is what I received. I'm not sure if it contains any vital information as to why my computer is losing battery overnight, but if it does could anyone help me? I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3
    Thanks!

    Hello TimmyCoogs21,
I may not be able to give you a direct answer on this. I am not sure of your familiarity with log files. PID refers to a Proceess ID. I am not sure which process has an ID of 94 that is causing you this non-sleep issue. Others have had similar issues in the past, i.e.The HIDD after could possibly mean it is some form of Human Interface Device. If you have a USB or something plugged into your mac at night, or a faulty hardware piece entirely. (These are just speculations)
Bluetooth drivers prevent system from sleeping in Mavericks - what's going on!?
Do not let the title fool you as he states that it is not a problem that is caused by bluetooth. Ultimately he sought support from apple, which in your case, I would do the same.
You could restore/refresh your system and see if this continues if not I would recommend seeking apple support.
I know this does not fix your problem, however I hope you find some help in it.
    Cheers.

  • Loss of mouse control after waking from sleep

I am running a Mac mini G4 (see specs below) with a remote Microsoft mouse-keyboard connection that uses a USB connection. I didn't turn on the computer for a month, I installed necessary updates to some programs, and control of the mouse pointer disappears after I waken it from sleep mode. I installed new batteries in the mouse, but it makes no difference. The keyboard works fine. Both the keyboard and the mouse were purchased with the computer, and I've never had a problem with either of them until now. What's wrong, and what can be done? Thanks very much. Peace.

It's not an entirely unusual problem to have the mouse drop out when waking from sleep, and it's caused by the fact the system wakes before the connection to the mouse is re-established. To the system, that means the mouse appears to be missing, thus the driver doesn't load up for it. Cordless mice are amongst the most problematic in this respect because as the system wakes, not only does it have to recognize the cordless transceiver in time, but then also make contact with the mouse and correctly identify it. That isn't normally a problem, but it means almost anything that delays the chain of contact will result in the mouse failing to work. Note that if using a USB hub, this can exacerbate the problem significantly, so at least for testing, the mouse and keyboard should be connected directly to the system.
There are a couple of simple tests to perform: firstly, does the mouse work perfectly when the system is booted rather than woken? Assuming it does, the next is whether the mouse works correctly if it is used to wake the system from sleep by clicking a button?
If the mouse works correctly when the system is booted, then the problem is either that the mini's USB ports are not functioning entirely correctly, or that there is either a problem with the USB 'dongle' communicating with the mouse on wake up, or some interference in the area that is inhibiting error-free communication between the devices.
In the latter instance, placing the mouse a few inches from the USB 'dongle' it communicates with and then waking the system is a good test, since the range is short and thus the risk of interference affecting communication is reduced. If it works like that, then you have something in the area that is causing communication problems.
Assuming the mouse still doesn't work when left next to the dongle, then then next step is to try an PMU reset:
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    -Wait 10 seconds.
-Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
-Let go of the power button.
-Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.

  • Lets speed up resume from sleep

So I am a laptop user and most everything works, but suspend(I rarely power down) is a little slow, or should I say resuming from suspend.  I counted it to be around 20-25s to come up.  I did some poking around and started editing some of my suspend scripts in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d.  I removed the suspend resume network manager because I use Arch Assistant and netcfg2.  That didn't seem to make a real difference (maybe a second).  The next thing I changed was the netcfg script.  I changed the netcfg2 all-resume/resume to run in the background via a & at the end and that seemed to make a big difference.  Suspend was a few seconds faster and resume now took around 10s.  So the question I have for all of you experts is what other scripts can be tweaked or added to the background to speed up the resume process?  By the way my network has seemed to work just fine and I can ping addresses as soon as the system awakes.
Lets see if we can get arch to resume in 2 seconds!  If it can already enlighten me please.

You can do a little test... Issue:
    echo "mem" > /sys/power/state
as root.  That will send your computer to sleep without running any scripts on suspend/resume.  Time how long it takes to resume from sleep.  There is a chance that the system will not resume properly, since that method uses no hardware specific quirks, so be warned, but it should give you an idea of how fast it can be made to work or, in other words, what the hardware/kernel limitations are.
10 seconds sounds about right, by the way.  2 seconds?  No way!

  • I have a new Mac mini and are using an Acer monitor. Unfortunately, the Acer will not show any image on a startup from cold. It does however work completely correctly when restarting from 'sleep' condition. Can anyone help? Thanks in anticipation.

I have a new Mac mini- changed from Windows XP. I have a peculiar problem. I use an Acer monitorwith the Mac which works fine when the Mac is 'un-sleeped'. But, if I have shutdown the Mac the Acer does  not recognisethe start up - at least it shows nothing on screen. When I have shut down - nowknowing the problem, I use an old Samsung monitor to cope with the start up -it does so fine - and then put the Mac to 'sleep', then change monitors andrestart the Mac - the Acer is now fine. I am using the same cables for theSamsung and the Acer. The Acer had no problems with my old Windows system -from sleep or shut down. I really do not think there is anything wrong with theAcer - could it be some sort of recognition problem? Please can anyone assist.Donald Picton

I posted the same question a day ago with no response. I'm using an Acer x193w. You actually don't have to switch monitors to get it to work. Just make sure you turn off the monitor after shutting down the Mac mini (actually push the power button on the monitor, not just let it go to sleep). If you turn on the monitor (push the power button on the monitor), then power up the Mac mini, the monitor is recognized. The issue didnt exist with Snow Leopard for me. It only started after I started using Lion. Hope this issue gets fixed In a future OS update.

  • Windows 8 wakes up IMMEDIATELY from sleep.

Hi! I'm happy user of Windows 8. OK. I'm not fully happy... In installed Windows 8 and it worked great, for some time. After SOME updates my computer will not sleep for more that 20 sec. It will ALWAYS wake up. When I didn't clean installation of Windows
    8 this problem didn't appear.
No any setting were change in my computer from "before to after" updates.
    Can anybody can help?
I checked MANY of thinks from discussion forums, none of them helped.
BTW. I'm not sure if this question is in right forum category.

    Hi,
I actually have the problem where my computer wakes from sleep at 8:55 am every morning. I've done all the command line stuff mentioned above and according to Windows there is nothing enabled to wake my system from sleep, neither hardware nor a scheduled
task. My event viewer just shows an "unknown" wake source. I have a Samsung laptop, so I began suspecting it was some Samsung proprietary process doing this, but the specific things mentioned here, SSD and Magician, don't appear to be installed on my machine.
When I look at Programs and Features in the Control Panel, those programs are not listed. If I had them installed they'd show up there right?
Also I booted into BIOS to see if there was something in there that could be waking the computer. The only relevant option was a wake from USB, but that was disabled already. There was no other option in there.
Does anybody have any idea what could be doing this?
Another related problem is that Windows keeps forcing the Power Saver power mode on me. No matter how many times I change to the Balanced or High Performance plan, it keeps reverting to Power Saver.
