Cant Update BB curve 8520 from 4.6 to 5 OS

I recently tried to update my BB curve 8520 OS  v.4.6.1.286 to OS 5 .
I did all these steps.
1) Downloaded 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel860_PL5.2.0.47_A5.0.0.509_Wind_Hellas
2)Deleted  "vendor.xml"
3)And executed LOADER.EXE
I followed all the steps and i couldnt update my OS.
I dont know what else to do i followed all the steps still i failed
Is there any other way to update my OS ???

if you have BB Desktop Manager installed on your computer, you should just have to plug your BB 8520 in and Desktop Manager will automatically tell you that theres an update and give you the option to do it. A data plan is required for OS5  to work. Thats how I did mine and the whole thing took all of 10-15 minutes. Keep in mind though that there are apps that will not reinstall after the update so you'll have to reinstall them, but it will tell you which ones didnt carry over.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Attempting to update blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168 timing out

I am attempting to update my blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168. However when it attempts to install it reaches module 386 of 399 it gives a message that an error has occured while downloading software and to check the internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. I have tried unistalling all the software ie desktop manager and reinstalling and it makes no difference? help.

    Hi there,
Try manually downloading and installing the OS to your computer first. You can do this by searching for your carrier's name in the following link and then simply download the OS installer fir your device. Once you've done that, install the file to your computer and you can then perform the upgrade.
    Here's the link:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    I hope that helps!

How did you get the music on the ipod? It should have come from your computer. Why is it not there now?
He could have bought all of his music directly from the ITS to his Touch.
To get your purchased music from the Touch to the computer, you will need to:
    - open Itunes on the computer, and sign into your ITS account
    - verify that the computer is authorized on the account
    - under the File menu, select 'Transfer purchased items to this computer'
    - after your purchased music and apps are transferred you will need to pair the iPod to the computer, this will clear all music, apps, etc. from the iPod
    - reload the iPod from the computer

  • After update software (Curve 8520) sudoku and solitaire games have disappeared.

The original software came bundled with Sudoku and Solitaire but after updating the software both games disappeared.  Where can I find them again?

I'm having the same problem, but there's more apps than that missing for me, and I'm betting for you. I updated my software version on my 8530 Curve - Sprint, currently have v5.0.0.1030. When I did this update I lost Password Keeper, tasks, memo pad, my games, and I think a couple other things. The main thing I NEED back is password keeper, for obvious reasons. Every "solution" people are offering has not worked. I tried reloading the software again, I tried going through the BB Desktop Software and going to Applications but there's no other applications to load. I tried doing some loader run command but there was nothing there to load, I went to the BB web page and downloaded software, went to my carriers page for the softwate, still no apps for me to put on my phone and again tried reloading software after downloading new stuff. If I find a solution I will let you know.

When ever I try to update my iPad iTunes tells me that my iPad is not eleigible for the requested build. I have deleted the iOS firmware file and re downloaded it using the version of iTunes that was released yesterday but still no dice. How can I go about updating my device?

Make sure that you have backed up the iPad and then reset it to factory settings. It should do this with the most recent version of the iOS. Afterward resync.

    Hello jeber,

  • Software Update Failure (Curve 8520) using a Mac

    Blackberry Website - http://uk.blackberry.com/software/smartphones/update/smartphone.html
    says,
"Update on the web - On a Mac
    • You will need to download BlackBerry® Desktop Software to update your smartphone software. Once installed, connect your smartphone to your computer and you will automatically be prompted to update."
    - It DOESN'T automatically update
    - We have to open BlackBerry Desktop Software file which has Import Media, Device Options buttons on the main screen, as well as Back Up, Restore, Applications and Sync buttons on the Tool Bar
    - When we click on Applications, a box comes up with a list of apps (checked and unchecked boxes), Check for Updates, Cancel and Start. buttons  If we click on Check for Updates we get "There are no updates available for your BlackBerry device".  If we click on Start we get a message which reads:
"BlackBerry® Desktop Software failed to validate your BlackBerry® device update.
Aborting install due to validation failure. Some packages contained unsatisfied dependencies"
We tried to "Reload BBM" which resulted in loss of contacts and lots of tears, so we "Restored".  Since doing this contacts have been restored BUT we now cannot connect to WiFi. Message reads, " This wireless router supports WiFi Protected Set-Up. To connect using a PIN (which your Blackberry will generate), click Next'.  We are then asked to enter a PIN into the router - How are we supposed to do that if the router doesn't have a keyboard?

This is a little cryptic.  You plugged your device in where? To the PC via USB port?
Do you have Desktop Manager installed on PC?  Blackberry USB drivers installed on PC?
What is taking too long to "authorize?"
Reply with some more detail please.

  • Can't update software on my new curve 8520!

i got a new curve 8520 from phones4u the other day and the software is 4.6.314 but i would like to upgrade to 5 but on the desktop software it says no updates avaiable and also on wireless updates just wondering if it could be the sim card i got it in the phone or either its just the phone playing up? could someone help me please.

First, in order to update to OS 5 you'll need a sim card with a valid data plan.  Once you get that then you can update to OS 5 by following the instructions below:
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8500-series-discussion-gemini/241870-latest-os-8520-5-0-0-16...
If you're brave, you can wipe the device with JL_Cmder and then load the OS 5 using the above instructions without a data plan.

  • Arabic typing in wrong direction after os 5 update Curve 8520

    Hello,
Actually I'm posting this on behalf of a friend because I feel responsible for his problem. I advised him to update his Curve 8520 via this link last Tuesday rather than taking it to a mobile shop: http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/devices/ .
The update was a success, however, now whenever he wants to type in his native Arabic it types from left to right not from right to left.  The Arabic font shows correctly so it is supported but it seems there is this typing direction issue. Both of us live in Dubal and use Etisalat as our provider.
Can someone please tell me how or if the correct typing direction for Arabic can be achieved? Thank you for your time

The correct answer would be to whereever he saved it, but that may prove difficult with a shared PC.
He will be looking for a file with the extension .ipd and I would say it will be only one on the machine.
