Cant update iLife apps that came preinstalled on mac

Is there any reason why I can't update the preinstalled apps like Garageband and iphoto as they came preinstalled on the mac air...
The app store is saying that I need to log in with teh account that purchased the software...

Same problem. Apple won't answer but says to get on this useless merrygoround. As a five apparati Apple owner and stockholder, this ****** me off. This is feeling very Microsofty these days.

Can I change the Apple ID assigned to the iLife apps that came with the Mac on purchase?

My wife and I own 3 apple devices. For ease we use one single Apple ID on all devices. Issue occured when my wife purchased the iMAC whilst I was overseas - during the in store set up (not knowing the impact) allowed the shop assistant set up a new Apple ID for her; resulting in the in built iLife apps (such as iPhoto) being associated to that Apple ID. We have since used the original Apple ID for everything on the MAC.
The problem occurs when app updates for the original iLife Apps are released - I can't update them under our Apple ID.
Can I delete iPhoto and re-install under our original ID without loosing all our photos - or is there an easier way to change the ID of the Apps?

If you simply just changed the email associated with that appleid you can just delete and Re-download the apps.
You can verify the above step by going to the App Store on device > Updates>Purchased - if you see the app there just delete it from the home screen and redownload from the purchased section
Now if you got rid of that account entirely, you will have to delete and re-purchase on your new account

Scroll to Containers
Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop
Scroll to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar.
Log in
When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
**Show Library Folder:
Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook. Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.

When Software Update says I have apps to update, it will not let ne update the ones that came installed with my macbook air, OS 10.8.2. App stare says to login as the user who originally purchased, yet I am logged in as that user. Have tried loggin out and back in but that does not work. Any ideas?

My Ipad 2 will not open apps that I have download from the app store but will open apps that came preinstalled.

My IPAD 2 will some times not open apps that I have down load from the app store. But will open all of the preinstalled apps.I must go to the app store and install something and then all the apps will open. I should not have to install unwanted apps to keep my IPad working.I have reset and total reset nothing sames to work.

Sounds to me like you may have an issue with the firmware, i.e. the iOS version that you are runing. I also have an iPad 2 and sometimes have to restart it to get it to recognize and run a newly downloaded app. And only once or twice have I had to uninstall and redownload an app that this didn't fix. I think this has more to do with the way an app has been coded more than anything else.
You might try doing a "Reset All Settings" reset and set it up as a new iPad. You should not lose any data, apps, music, videos, etc. that you have stored on your device. I have done this a few times when tweaking the iOS 5.0.1 firmware and never lost anything. You do have to re-enter your ID's and Passwords for wifi. And of course you will need to go back into settings and reset any changes you may have made to things like location and notifications.
I don't know if this will work, but if I was in your place this is the next step that I would take.

I purchased my iMac using the same (and only) Apple ID I use to purchase apps. Third-party apps update fine, but the apps that came with my iMac (iPhoto, iMovie, etc) bring up a message saying I have to log in with the account I used to purchase them.

I used my only Apple ID to purchase my iMac (Intel-based one). I've never been able to update core apps that came with it. I can update third party apps I've bought (like Coda), but when I try to update Garage Band, iPhoto, iMovie and so on, a popup message appears saying "You have updates available for other accounts" and "Log in with the account you used to purchase this app in order to update it", or similar (see screenshot above).
The OS seems to get its updates fine - it's just the core apps from the App Store.
I've only ever had one Apple ID, so I have no idea what to do. I went to ask the Genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't help, and insisted that I must have purchased the iMac using a different account, but I definitely didn't. There are a few posts on non-Apple forums of this happening to other people, so it must be a rare bug.
I'm a little concerned it may affect my ability to update from Lion to Mountian Lion. Can anyone help?

Have you done a Disk Repair and a Disk Permissions Repair?
If that doesn't resolve the problem I would suggest calling customer support about this issue as it is most likely on their (Apple's) end that the problem exists.

It appears as if the OS currently on that machine was not the original OS? If so, you are running into this problem because the seller did not do what he was supposed to do - he was supposed to erase the hard drive and reinstall the original OS. And, if he got either the OS or any apps at the app store, they are not transferable as they are tied to his Apple ID forever. That is why you will have to pay for them using your own Apple ID. And, if he obtained the current OS at the app store, you may also run into another problem: you may not be able to reinstall the OS if needed as that is tied to the original Apple ID as well.

You've logged into your account and viewed your purchase history and there aren't any error messages shown (e.g. 'problem with a previous purchase'), and you haven't got any purchases due (e.g. pre-orders and/or subscriptions) : Why can’t I select None when I edit my Apple ID payment information ?

- Go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

Correct. An app can only be updated under the Apple ID that was used to orginally acquire the app. If that is a problem you can delete the app and download again under the new userid. If you paid for the app you will have to pay again. Your old Apple ID does not go away so there is no reason to not use it to download the apps.
You cannot delete the apps that came with IOS. If you want to "hide" the apps simply put the apps into an application folder by dragging one app onto another. You can do this to all the IOS apps.

Since you can't delete apps that are part of iOS, you should try the same thing I do. I create a folder which I call Worthless and move to the last page of my iPhone. I then put all the apps that Apple includes with iOS into that folder. With the name Worthless, I never even tempted to look in there again. That is about the only thing you can do with worthless apps that are included with iOS.
