Cant update TIGER from 10.4 to 10.4.2

I downloaded the 10.4.2 update for Tiger and cant install it for a weird reason: not enough free space on the Hard drive... However Te installation program tells me that the update require 125MB, I have a hard drive of 235 GB with 194 GB available!!!! I ve tried Disk Utility/repair disk but cannot press repair disk as there are no errors detected... any thing I missed? Im so frustrated as the update was already an answer to a problem I had before, now I have a problem to setup the solution to my first problem... Is that the real mac world? I dont want to think so and therefore I thank you for your help!!!

DJ:is it on disk1 or disk2,I am not sure what Tiger install disk you are using. Tiger usually ships on 1 DVD or 4 CDs. However, if you are installing from CDs you should boot from Disk 1 holding down the "C" key until the grey apple with the spinning gear comes up. When booted, go to the Utilities Menu and open Disk Utility. Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel, and First Aid in the main panel. Click on Repair Disk. If errors are reported click on Repair again, and again until no errors are reported. If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a third party utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior.

Cant Install Tiger From Original Installation Media After Hard Drive Failure.

Hard Drive failed (no boot, nasty clicking sound).
I installed a new hard drive. Tried to install Snow Leopard from a retail disk - it would boot from the disc and I would get partway through the installation before stalling.
After doing research, I realized I needed to install from the original installation media (tiger) and then upgrade to a newer OS.
I dont have the Original installation media, called up Apple - paid their fees, got the 4 installation discs and no pressing C while booting, or pressing the option key will get the computer to boot from that installation disc.
I just get a folder with a ?
I know the drive works fine, because it booted normally from the Snow Leopard disc.
I know the new disc Apple sent is good, because I put it in my other computer (iMac) and saw the installer and was able to open the PDF readme.
Now im stuck - cant reinstall the OS because I cant get it to boot off the disc!
When holding down the C button during boot, I can hear the disc drive making noise - but all i get this that blinking folder with a ?

I could not boot into time machine's external drive. I used my snow leopard disk to install and and then Mavericks from app store. Then migration assistant.
I am thinking about a backup to my backup.

The combo update is in a dmg format. AFAIK dmg's can be copied to and from a PC formated drive to a mac without a problem.

Cant update apps from AppStore with iOS 8

After I upgrade my iPad mini retina (A1490) to iOS 8, I found all my apps cannot update in AppStore.
Neither clicking on the 'update' button for each app nor 'update all' in AppStore will work, and no progress was made, just the round indicator circling forever.
Has any one met this problem and know what is going on?

Did you do the "erase all content and settings" before performing the restore?? That was the key for me. I had tried all the "normal" things, reboot, hard reboot, etc.
It had trouble even during the complete restore - it stalled at one particular app for a long time (15-20 minutes). I disconnected the lightning (USB) cable, waited 30 seconds, reconnected and it picked up the restore.
Still painful as most of my application data had to be restored through each app. Kindle books reloaded, etc.

One of the reasons a brody and I are asking about "how you obtained Lion" is that you need to have the App Store in order to download it. The App Store is only available in Snow Leopard. The title of your thread states "I updated OS from Tiger to Lion". There is no way to download Lion from within Tiger (or Leopard for that matter). If you obtained Lion via other means, you may have an early build which may exhibit problems not found in the released version.
When you say your DVD drive is not working... Is it with one specific DVD, or have you tried other DVDs and they are also not working?
It sounds as though you have successfully installed Lion, but now your DVD drive is having problems. Do you currently have Lion installed and working?
