  • I cant upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 from 10.5.8

I've recently done a complete clean install on my imac and run Mac OS X 10.5.8 (233 Ghz Core 2 Duo) (2 GB) - The computer is now running very very well and fast.
Prior to the re-install I was running Lion 10.7
I am now trying to re-install Snow Leopard - At the start of the installation from the DVD it stops and I see a message " The application Register canceled installation"
My software updates are upto date. please help

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)

  • Have upgraded to Snow Leopard. Pages icon still there but wont open, and i cant open my pages docs. Any ideas

Have upgraded to Snow Leopard. Pages icon still on dock but wont open. Also I cant view my documents. Do I have to buy Pages from ITunes? Thankyou

Good, use the disc. Also do the software updates. You can download from here http://www.apple.com/support/pages/
and you don't need the Pages 4.1/ iWork 9.1 I downgraded from iWork 9.1 to iWork 9.0.5.

  • I have osx 10.6.3 have just upgraded to snow leopard and it says my app ical is ical 3.0.2 and cant be used?  what the??? what do i do now?

I have just upgraded to snow leopard and ical now wont open.  says it is not compatible and is ical 3.0.2 which seems strange as i have a osx10.6.3 .   have looked for update but cant find one,  what do i do?

    Greetings,
It sounds like you have moved iCal from it's normal location and are opening a second copy which is the older version.
The current version of OS X 10.6 is 10.6.8.  As you are running 10.6.3 you need the updates.  Go to the Apple Menu > Software update and keep doing this until it says all updates have been installed.
Click anywhere on your desktop (the background).
Go to the top of the computer screen and click on "Go" > "Applications"
In this list look for "iCal".
Double-click iCal in this location (which is the proper home for iCal) and see what version it says.
If it reports the correct version you can drag the iCal from the Applications folder to the dock on your screen to add an button for it (if you already have one in the dock, remove it before you drag this one there).  Be sure to leave iCal in the Applications folder.
    Hope that helps.

  • Will i still be able to run illustrator CS2 if I upgrade to snow leopard?

will i still be able to run illustrator CS2 okay if I upgrade to snow leopard?
i was told by employee at the apple store i need to install snow leopard to take advantage of the cloud and sync my itunes to my iphone 4s. mainly use my laptop for design work using illustrator CS2 and cant afford to have it not work properly if i upgrade to snow leopard.

iCloud only works with 10.7 Lion according to what I've heard, to get 10.7 you have to upgrade to 10.6.8 then download 10.7 from the MacAppStore. Then only to a 64 bit Intel Mac, no Core Duo's. Also you need 2GB of RAM, but many say you really need 4GB.
CS2 will NOT work on 10.7 for sure, it might not run on 10.5/10.6 neither.
CS2 is rather dated, you'll have to check with Adobe exactly what you can do first, IMMO don't bother.
You won't achieve your goal, so it's best to stay right where you are and run that machine until it drops less you break something.
Next machine you buy, it will be 10.7 and you'll have to buy a new CS5/6 whatever etc.
    Also new printers/scanners etc.
Something to plan for, I'd wait for all your software/drivers to be Lion ready first, then wait for the bugs to get out before purchasing a new Mac.

  • Upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger

I have an iMac early 2006 and meet all of the requirements necessary for upgrading to Snow Leopard. Based on other posts I assume you can upgrade to SL with the $29 software. Is that correct? Also, will I lose data from the hard drive in the upgrade process? I have Time CapsuIe but I cant back it up to it because I dont have Time Machine on Tiger. I have my iPhone synced to this computer so will I have a problem syncing after the upgrade and losing data? Lastly, will the upgrade affect the partitioned OS with Parallels and Windows XP that is installed?

technically, yes. legally? far from clear. there is no agreement on the issue on the forums. it's clear that apple intended the 29$ disks to be used by leopard owners only but they didn't manage to specify it clearly enough on the packaging and in ULA. hence the arguments. in view of this you can do as you like.
Also, will I lose data from the hard drive in the upgrade process?
a regular upgrade preserves your data. but you should make a full backup regardless. you should always back up and it's doubly important before upgrades. make a full bootable clone of your current Tiger system using CCCloner or Superduper. test that it works and then upgrade.
I have Time CapsuIe but I cant back it up to it because I dont have Time Machine on Tiger. I have my iPhone synced to this computer so will I have a problem syncing after the upgrade and losing data?
    if everything goes well, no.
Lastly, will the upgrade affect the partitioned OS with Parallels and Windows XP that is installed?
no, the upgrade will not touch the windows partition.

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now safari scrolls a page down when space bar is hit and sometimes crashes.  Any ideas for a fix?

I just upgraded to the new snow leopard, now my Safari is acting loopy.  At times, the page will scroll down when I hit the space bar.  As I type this discussion the screen isn't paging down, but if I go to the tab where I have facebook loaded and hit the space bar, it acts as a page down key.  I've had safari crash about 5 times tonight for no apparent reason.  The delete key sometimes will act as a page back key.  I really have no idea whats going on.
I've had keyboards go wacko on me before due to something being spilled on them or a wireless problem, but this keyboard is a wired keyboard and nothing was spilled on it.  It's rather new and I'm quite certain it's not a keyboard issue.
No settings have been changed on the computer.  The only thing different today from yesterday, is the fact that I upgraded to snow leopard.
    Help would be pretty sweet.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • I upgraded to Snow Leopard, made a change to Address Book that I need to correct, tried to use Time Machine to find the prior version and it keeps pulling up the later ones info. How do I use Time Machine to restore Address Book from a few hours ago?

This morning, I upgraded to Snow Leopard from v10.5.8. Then, I exported 11 contacts from our old Now Contact database, intending to import that info into Address Book. It was an experiment, as we have 1199 contacts in 20+ categories and want to eventually get them into Bento from Address Book. The export automatically created a file called Export.vcf on the desktop, after I highlighted the 11 contacts. I tried to look at the info, but when clicked it opens Address Book, which then simply asked if I wanted to import the 11 contacts to it. I clicked yes. Then in checking Address Book 7, not 11 contacts appeared. I clicked on "All Contacts" and there were 1630. We only have 1199, so where did the extra 400+ come from? Since I had already clicked twice on the Address Book window, I couldn't undo the import. So I thought 'Ok, I'll trash Address Book and go to Time Machine, find Address Book, go to right after the upgrade to SL, hit Restore and bingo. Nope. I keep getting the post-import info, not pre. Con someone direct me to a solution? I want to get rid of the import contacts plus the extra 300 or so ( I already had a hundred or so in several categories)? Then, I need to figure out (1) why ALL the old records were exported from Now Contact, (2) where they were hiding in that .vcf file when Address Book recognized that I only wanted to export 11, (3) why Address Book showed only 7 imports in the "Last Import" group, but showed ALL my contacts in the "All Contact" group, even though they should nearly all have been safely untouched in the Now Contact DBase file. PS, I am not especially computer savvy. Thanks for any enlightenment.

Booting From Snow Leopard Installer Disc
    1. Insert Snow Leopard Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
    4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
    5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Drive Preparation and Installation
    1. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting is complete quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Sleep indicator light not working after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hello all, I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (Macbook Pro 3,1, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM) and after the upgrade the sleep light no longer comes on when I shut the lid or when the display is powered off.
Not a huge deal, but might be an issue if I can't remember if I shut the computer down or put it to sleep last—I did not do a clean install, but would anyone happen to know something I could try before resorting to that?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated!

Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)?

I'm running snow leopard. The try to open any .mov file in Quicktime, and I get an error message that says, "The document xyz.mov could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that Quicktime player understands. I'm a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard.
    Help!
    Thanks, Mark

Unfortunately, the error message gives no details about what codec might be missing or what it needs.
If the file can't be opened in QT, it only means you cannot use the QT "Inspector" window to check what compression formats were used to create the file. It does not mean you can't use the Finder "Information" window to check on the compression formats or use a third party media information window (e.g., like VLC which will open many compression formats not supported natively by QT) to determine what kind of data is included in the MOV wrapper. If the file cannot be opened in any app, it is usually a good sign that the file itself is corrupted.
It's a stupid error message. Apple should do better than that.
Error trapping is quite extensive but there are still many areas which require human oversight. The message is telling you that either the container has a problem (e.g., not properly terminated, non-standard, or corrupted) or that one or more of the compression formats used is not supported by your current codec component configuration or that the data was encoded using non-standard settings or preferences not supported by QT or that the fourCC code does not match the data contained in the file or that there are timecode inconsistencies, etc., etc., etc. In short there are a near infinite number of possible problems for which it would be very difficult/nearly impossible to program error trapping depending on your sourcing of content and how you process it before it reaches the player app. Think of it like trying to play a BD disc in an DVD player.
I'll call Apple support when I get a chance.
Chances are good that they will end up sending you back here. In any case, it is often a good idea to post a sample file for examination by other QT users. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if the sample file will play on other systems which would indicate whether or not the file itself is bad and under the best of circumstances whould allow them to examing the file in detail for various common problems.

  • I have a mac book 10.6.8 that has been upgraded to Snow Leopard (latest version.) How can I upgrade to mountain lion with 1GB of memory? When I go to buy it, it says that it's not compatible with my Mac but my Mac has all of the qualifications.

If anyone has any idea I'd really appreciate it. I just bought the iphone 5 and recieved the new nano as a birthday gift and now I'm up a creek without a paddle b/c I can't plug them into my laptop without the new itunes that runs on Mountain Lion.
Please help, I'm not very tech savvy.

You don't need anything higher than OSX 10.6.8 to run iTunes 11.  iTunes system requirements - http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can't upgrade without more RAM.

  • Time to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

I am considering upgrading to Snow Leopard. Is this a good idea or should I wait another month or so? Anything I should know before I make the switch? Thanks

I am a novice and I am not sure what you mean by... "Just be sure you're not relying on known incompatible software:"
Some software is not compatible with Snow Leopard. Trying to use it may cause anything from serious problems to minor nuisance crashes. Some programs may simply need updating, while others may not have a SL-compatible version yet (or never will, for discontinued software).
I have Time Machine as my backup. Do you think I should also do something like Carbon Copy or something like that? Or do you think Time Machine is good enough?
I think that Time Machine is certainly good enough for one backup... but in my opinion, it is important that you have more than one backup made with more than one backup program. So yes, making an additional backup to different media using Carbon Copy Cloner (or something else) would be a wise idea.
