Cant use function keys under actions. CS4, intel 2 x 2,8 quad

We have just migrated from CS2 to CS4, and to new computers. I now cant use my function keys (F1 etc) with my actions. Any clues anyone?

On your new computer, open the System Preferences>Keyboard&Mouse. Make sure the box for Use Function keys as normal is checked.

Just go to the Keyboard shortcuts tab and uncheck the items assigned to the function keys or assign them to different keys.

Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.

Using Function Keys and Alt Key in Flash Video

I am attempting to create an eLearning video, which includes instructions, a "try it yourself" section, and then a quiz. Our software that I am trying to simulate uses Function keys (F6 to bring up specific windows) as well as shortcut keys (Alt-S takes the user to a certain field, Alt-P conducts a Patient Search, etc). However, I have found that when running the video using IE, the browser takes over the focus and these function keys do not control the video.
These functions work fine in Google Chrome (not approved for use by the company) and when the video is published as .exe, but I need this to work in IE.
Is there anyway to retain the focus on the flash video for the entire video?

Trying to use function keys (like windows) on apple wireless keyboard for ipad, as well as arrow keys.

I am connecting to my work PC through my ipad. My main program i use for work is a DAS based (ancient, i know.) Anyways, i have to be able to use function keys, i can touch the screen so if i can not it isn't the end of the world. But it would make things MUCH more easier. Is there a way to program the F1-F12 keys on the wireless keyboard to use like windows, rather than the brightness/volume/play buttons.
Also, my arrow keys don't seem to work right. If i am using notepad, they don't work, unless i have entered down 6 lines, the arrows will work as far as those 6 lines, but won't go down on there own. If i am on the internet and there is a drop down menu, the arrow keys don't work either. As well as in my work program, they don't work at all, it's as if the arrow keys don't register.
Help?!

Just added information. In my work program, i can use the onscreen keyboard (but it takes up half the screen so i can not see what i am doing. From that keyboard, and can toggle back and forth from the regular keyboard, the FN screen for function keys, and the CTRL keyboard. This is why i am confused as to why the function keys and arrows will not work on the wireless, yet they have the keyboard on the screen.

How can I display the failure caption with click box when using function keys to navigate a sim?

I am using the keyboard function keys to navigate a simulation using Click Boxes. For instance, F7 advances the simulation to the next screen, but if the learner selects F5, a failure caption displays. I have tried deleting and re-entering the click box, placing the click box at the top of the timeline levels, starting the click box at 0 and 0.5, making the click box visible and invisible, and make the click box the entire size of the screen.

Installed itunes 10.5 and now can't use function keys on my keyboard

I just downloaded iTunes 10.5.0.142 and I now can't use the function keys on my keyboards to change track, pause etc. Is anyone else having this problem? Also, why is it now ctrl+shift+m to switch to mini player? Ctrl+m doesn't do anything now

Yeah I agree the white keyboard was clunky, I dont really miss it. The problem is you can't just use the new lighter keyboards with the white imacs bc the operating system is outdated. The apple store told me I needed to upgrade my operating system and it would cost me 170 dollars, which I found incredulous.
I dont think its due to an app running or an expose issue, thanks for your responses.
aghhhh maybe ill have to buy an old crusty one on ebay. why the heck would apple not make a compatible keyboard for their 3 year old computer anymore, WHYYYYYY???!!!

Using function keys (F1, F2, ...) without needing to hold down the fn key

By default on the Sprout, you need to hold down the "fn" key in order to access the real function keys (F1, F2, F3, ...) instead of the "actions" indicated by the icons on the keys. Normally, there's a BIOS option that lets you change this, so that the F1, F2, F3... function keys work without needing to hold down the "fn" key. E.g. as described in this article:

However, I don't see this BIOS option in the Sprout's BIOS, which looks quite different than the BIOS in that article.

Hi Streup,
Simple... On the S440 keyboard if you look at the top-left key.. Esc.. You should see a second label "FnLk" - Function Lock.
Press the Fn key and then Esc. The Fn Key will light up and now the Function Keys are activated.
Repeat the same to get the smart keys back.

Using function keys in applications

I'm writing some VBA code in excel, and although I think I should be able to get the Visual Basic editor to come up when I hit F11, or step through a macro with f8, what I get is the standard mac finder responses (f11-dashboard comes up, f8-I get that nice view of all my window in the front).
How can I set my mac so the function keys in Excel work for the application?

Did you try adding Excel to the keyboard shortcuts of the keyboard and mouse preference pane? Click the plus sign in the bottom left and add Excel then put in function key definitions.

Using Function Keys

How do i program the keyboard function keys? I can't find info on this anywhere on Mac help.

Since you don't list which computer you are using in your signature, I'm going to guess you are using a notebook. Apple has provided notebook users with a set of function key defaults that are different from desktop users. The key at the very bottom left of your keyboard is labeled FN. You have to press that key along with the function key to get it to work as a normal function key.

Can't use Function keys after creating curves adjustment ?

After I create a curves adjustment layer, the Function keys are disabled. Every Function key changes the cursor to an eydropper. You must first click on the left-arrow at the bottom of the pallette to exit the curves adjustment. Is there a way to fix this?

I believe this issue has been reported a couple of times and is a bug in CS5. So for the time being, there is no way around it.

How can I disable developers tools from using function keys?

Every time I try to use my Quake like console binded to the F12 key, it opens the dev.Tools. How can I disable or even better uninstall dev. Tools.
I don't want to change the key I use for my console, I want dev.tools to stop bothering me when I'm browsing the web, IT'S DISTURBING!!!
Most people doesn't need dev tools, just put it as a plugin !!!

Was eventually able to eliminate this problem by deleting the size entry in the devtools.toolbox.host using about config.
At least it's invisible now instead of occupying half the page every time I hit F12.

you can use javascript to capture which key is pressed and act on it. do a google search on "javascript caputre key stroke" and you will find lot of code samples.
