  • Clipboard/background colour in Illustrator CS4

I'm finding the clipboard colour in Illustrator CS4 very distracting when working - is there any way of setting this to a default of white as per CS3 (and also available in photoshop CS4).
The default clipboard colour is an off-white and doesn't appear to be very neutral on my screen.
The only way round I have found is to view the background/clipboard as a Transparency Grid and then make the transparency grid white, or hide the artboard altogether (which is annoying), both of these cannot be set as a default.
I have included a picture of a corner of the artboard, showing it against the clipboard.
    Would appreciate a solution!
    Cheers,
    N

Thanks for that - another good solution but not possible for this to be a default setting either.
Does anyone else find this issue a problem - it seems strange to me as Indesign CS4 and the old version of illustrator both have pure white backgrounds, which are (arguably) easier to work with.
It seems a step backwards to have a fixed coloured background! Please make it a preference option Adobe!

  • Page Layout mode: canvas colour

Is it possible to change the canvas colour in Page Layout mode?
    Andy

    Andy,
As with Word Processing Mode, you can place a colored Shape in the background to give the appearance of a colored canvas. There is no canvas color option per se.

  • Changing canvas colour

how to use photoshop to changing the canvas colour in a jpeg picture and gif picture

If by "canvas colour" you mean the background of the picture, which shows if the canvas is enlarged, as stated it is normally the colour in the backgroung swatch in the Toolbox.
If you want to change the colour surrounding an object, Select it by clicking with the Magic Wand tool, then choose the colour you want in the Colour Picker and use the Paint Bucket tool to fill the selected area.

  • Hex colours in Illustrator CS5

I need to use Hex colours in illustrator, however, I can't find the option. Other info say's to go to the colour picker, but hex is not there.
Is it a colour set that I need to upload?

If you double-click on a color in the Color panel this will come up.

  • Increasing size of canvas file in Illustrator CC 2014, for master project file purposes

Hello, our company is using Illustrator CC for digital design, we would like to keep all the design screens in one files on different artboard,
because of the convenience of changing global colours, character styles and symbols.
Is there any way to increase the size of canvas file, or do any plugins exist for this?
    Many thanks

    Clockiebox,
In addition to what Monika said, you may consider which is worse, to scale down to have all Artboards fit into the 16,384 x 16,384 points Workspace (and scale up in connexion with printing, which is relatively straightforward with Acrobat/Reader), or to have Artboards spread over multiple Layers/documents.
If you scale down, remember to scale up Effect>Document Raster Effects Settings resolution and raster image resolution (using the reverse scaling factor).

  • Why are my colours in Illustrator so dull??

I'm hoping somebody can help me with this as it's driving me nuts   I'm working on digitalising my girlfriends artwork which needs to be very bright for the effect of her work to be seen but for the life of me, i can't get the right colours out of Illustrator.  I'm pretty sure it used to give me vibrant colours but since really paying attention to it and actually needing them, i notice that they are duller than in photoshop at the exact same hex code for example.  They seem to be less bright, almost pastel in tone and generally pretty lifeless.
I've tried messing with the colour settings but in all honesty, i have no idea what i'm doing with it all.  My suite is synchronised throughout so they should show the same colours shouldn't they??  They are the same shade of boring even when exporting to image.
Help me adobe forums..... you're my only hope....   Ksshht.

You are working in CMYK and/or using a specific color profile without proof preview. Though that in itself begs the question - if this is supposed to be printed in any form, you may never get the bright colors you seek unless you use lots of spot colors or specific printing methods.

  • Change gradient colour in Illustrator 10

I have illustrator 10 and have made a shape using the pen tool and have filled it with a gradient, I cannot change the colour from black and white,i want it to be green and white. is there a way to do this?

    Sophie
Click each square under the Gradient Slider in the Gradient palette and change the colour; you may use the Color palette to insert values.
The gradient default is B/W so you have to change colours for each new gradient; you can copy gradients from object to object, though.

  • Pantone colours in Illustrator have changed

I've opened an old packaging artwork in CC that was originally created in Illustrator CS5 and made design amends. All looks OK, everything behaving as it should.
I then copied and pasted the same artwork into a brand new CC document (as I needed to create a new artwork whilst using the same elements) and the Pantone colours all look much paler. Why is this?
Both document set ups are the same and both set up as CMYK not RGB.
If I paste back the elements from the new artwork to the old, the colours look OK again.
If I convert the Pantones to CMYK the values are different. I can't use CMYK colours as the job needs to be printed as Pantones.

    Peter,
The Pantone to CMYK values (CMYK representations issued/published by Pantone) have changed a few times over the years. What you see on your monitor reflects the CMYK values.
The Pantone inks themselves have not changed.
So you can keep printing as you did, and hopefully live with the changes in on screen appearance.
You may use the same libraries to have things look the same.

  • Matching colours in Illustrator?

I shot a photograph with a white object on a black background. I edited the photo in Photoshop. The background was pure black. I then 'placed' the photograph in Illustrator over a black background. Now the photo background shows up lighter than the Illustrator background. How can I match the colours?

Did you measure (in Photoshop) what you call ‘pure black’?
Is the Photoshop file in CMYK or RGB?
Is the black in Illustrator built up in the same way as the ‘pure black’?
Is the Illustrator file in CMYK or RGB?
Is the photo linked or embedded?
    Are you using Overprint Preview?
Take a careful look at the colours in both your files and I think you will be able to find the answer yourself.

  • Can I change the canvas colour on pages?

I was trying to create a basic graphic, when I imported it to my chosen programme it had a white backround around the edge. I was wondering wether I could change the background from white to transpatent.

Putting on my Gen 3 iMindReader I get from that that you have exported some page as a pdf and discovered it has an opaque background. All pdfs exported from Pages will have an opaque background otherwise it would look like a stained glass window instead of a sheet of paper.
Create your graphic with transparent wherever you want in Pages, group the elements, and copy.
Transfer to Preview .app and go command n then save that new image as a pdf, or copy and paste it into whatever application you are using (it will also be a pdf).

  • Background canvas's colour in Forms Builder

In dev 10g, exists a environment variable(registry), where is it possible to set canvas color?
    I'll try to explain better:
When you use Layout Wizard: Canvas Page on which you whis lay out your datablock's item,
background is gray for default, I wish set other colour when I create(Builder), not in runtime.
I didn't success to found any info!
    Thanks in adavance

    background is gray for default
when u open Form builder the default canvas colour is gray as you said earlier
but when u try to open an existing form, Form builders display the actual colour of the canvas set in properties of canvas!
Lets suppose i have a form whos background colour later modufied by me and i set it to Cyan as per ma requirement.
    [as per your scenario]
Now if i reopen the form, Form builder applied the default colour so a developer getting confused what the actual colour a canvas had?

  • Colour is not right in illustrator cmyk pantone cyan and aqua

I am trying to work with colours in illustrator.  I have set my colour mode to CMYK.  I am trying to create a light aqua colour and just keep getting "out of gamut" errors.  I tried using the colour book for Pantone and even entering the number of a pantone colour I want and just does not look right on the screen
The file will be used to print so RGB is not an option
can some one help me set up colour settings so I can get the best match for a light aqua colour.

For the sake of understanding: Spot colors are supposed to be printed as one dedicated ink in the physical world. Unless you convert it to a process color in a controlled (=calibrated environment) the on-screen simulation is merely a placeholder whose representation may not be at all exact. Likewise, converting it to CMYK may not give the same color result due to how the separate components interact differently from a single color ink. That and then there may be specific halftoning and ink density requirements as well as the paper stock that change "mix" colors or at least their perception. The default generic profiles should do just fine, but feel free to instate a specific FOGRA 27/ 39/ custom/ whatever setting if you know who's gonna print it using what profiles. Regardless, you have to at least calibrate the monitor either by eyeballing it with a calibrated reference chart or a calibration device and then of course you have to use it for proof preview. Beyond that - light colors are sometimes created by reducing the ink density/ opacity and/or flattening them against white and letting the halftoning take care of the rest, but this really depends on specific workflows. At least on my crudely calibrated system here at home I have no issues to get a reasonable representation of the color, so something may be up on your system.

  • Printing transparent images over vector colour areas from illustrator

I have tried everything! I am placing photoshop images which have a transparent areas on top of flat green colour in illustrator. The problem is when I print the illustrator file the green is darker where the transparent area from the photoshop images overlap the green. Can anyone help?

This is aimed at InDesign but it sounds like it applies to your problem:
