Canvas minimized to tiny vertical strip

Apologies if this has been asked already -- tried a search through the forums and couldn't find this referenced.
Over the past two weeks or so, I've noticed that every time I open up FCP, my projects open up just fine, the viewer and the timeline open up with my projects intact, but the canvas for my active project -- which used to open just fine on my second monitor -- is now minimized to a tiny vertical strip on the side of my main monitor, as are all the other projects that appear in the timeline.
Doesn't matter if I save the project again or switch to a different project -- it always re-opens in a tiny sliver on my main monitor ever single time I restart. So, every time I start up FCP, I find myself locating the proper tiny little sliver that represents my current canvas, dragging it to the second window and resizing it. I know there's probably a way to override whatever is causing this to happen. Any advice appreciated.

Downloaded FCP Rescue, and it doesn't run on my system at all -- made sure I have the right version for my install of FCP, too. It just crashes on launch. If all it does is kill the preferences, I suppose I could just delete the proper plist file, right?
Not sure how the View/Arrange is supposed to help -- just looks like that changes how objects appear in the browser...?

  • Vertical stripes after latest Security Update 2008-004 for OS X Tiger

    Hi there,
I'm experiencing vertical stripes and color issues on my PB G4 17 inch screen after the security update 2008-004.
Funny thing is, a screenshot looks fine.
I already resetted PRAM and NVRAM. Didn't help.
    Does anyone know a solution?
    Thanks,
    Phil

It's probably got nothing to do with the upgrade.
I guess your computer is about 15-20 months old and the serial number starts with W84 or W85.
This is obviously a common problem among these serial numbers, and it starts after about 15 months.
I've got a mint PBG4 17, that's NEVER left the house. Just turned it in on AppleCare repair (32 days left, phew) for this problem.

  • I have 4 vertical stripes across the entire height of my monitor. Do I have to buy a new imac? e

I have 4 vertical stripes across the entire height of my monitor, the stripes are there even before I log on. My 17" imac is 6 years old. Do I have to buy a new computer?

Frequent problem on 2006 17" imac!
Most of the time, it's a defective LCD panel.
To validate if it is the LCD panel or the graphic card, you can take a screen shot (cmd+Shift+3) and see if the problem is visible on the screen shot.
If it is not visible, then it's most likely the LCD panel.
This can be confirmed by connecting an external display to your iMac.
If it works well, then it's the LCD panel that is defective.
    Does it look like this?

  • MacBook Air: Vertical Stripe in Display

    hi,
my late 2010 macbook air suddenly displays a vertical stripe.
i realise, that when i take a screenshot, that stripe is not present.
i have the latest version of MacOS, no pending updates. i also cleaned the screen with iKlear apple polish - still the same result.
anz ideas what the problem might be?

Yes, I am using the MBA 2013 with haswel processor. What's your hardware?
Mine is i7 processor , 8gb ram and 256 SSD.
Look, I decided to buy Macs , because it was said that they were working properly for a long long time. After buying the latest iMac 27iches(late 2012) and the new MBA(mid 2013) the thing I have to say is that OS X is full of bugs and of course I am not here to debug Apple's software. The other thing I have to admit is that Macs tend to get hardware damages , especially on their displays, very very very very very very easily.
I got one replacement for an iMac with heavy image persistence and with my second unit I also had a ghosting issue some days ago.
With my MBA I got two replacement , that is the third unit I got and Apple still knows nothing about my issue.
Ok, I decided to pay for a very premium price, at least the machines should really work perfectly. And these facts are admitted by someone , whose house looks like an Apple Store with so many Apple's products that I have bought.
So , the best thing you can  do now is to give your feedback directly to Apple. Apple will not spend time to fix bugs which only a few customers experience. They will only release a fix , if it is a major concern , which may drop their sales worldwidely. Of course, if you think it is a hardware issue the best you can do is to ask for a replacement. I know this is inconvenient, but it is the only way to ensure that the machine you bought will worth the money you spent for it.

  • Beige vertical stripes on monitor OS windows 7

Light beige vertical stripes appear on my ViewSonic monitor whenever there's any movement on the screen, including mouse movements espically when the wheel is used. When there's nothing moving on the screen the stripes disappear, although on the YouTube site they're always there even when no video is playing.  Typing, as I'm doing right,  now does not  generate the lines.   Could this be a video card issue?

  • I start the computer the screen has blue vertical stripes and says that the Adobe Air application can not be found. Some of my programs don't run and say: You: Error access violation at 0x0055F525

I start the computer the screen has blue vertical stripes and says that the Adobe Air application can not be found. Some of my programs don't run and say:
You: Error access violation at 0x0055F525. I reinstalled Adobe Air. No change. I went to the Adobe webside and they said to repair it with a program. I bought RegCure. Didn't change anything. What to do?

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • IPhone Camera - distorted vertical stripe in low light

My iPhone 5 camera (on rear side) recently started showing a distorted vertical stripe down the left side of the screen in low light. It starts as a yellowish stripe, and as the light gets lower, it turns more distorted with pinks and blues (see attached screenshot). In sunlight outdoors, there is no visible stripe. Any ideas on
what can be done about this?

    Hi there met_fan,

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Vertical stripes

My PowerBook G4 has an odd display problem that I'm pretty sure is an OS X issue, not a hardware issue: groups of vertical lines on the display. The lines are one-pixel wide and show up in a consistent pattern, not at random. I get a vertical stripe of maybe two dozen alternating darker and lighter pixels, followed by an equal number of normal pixels, followed by another stripe of alternating dark/light, etc. The underlying color is not changed, just the brightness. Now the reason I think it's an OS X problem is that the stripes only show up in places like the Dock, the menu bar, the title bar of inactive windows (but not active windows), the title bar of dialog boxes, and the dark area that pops up when I cycle between apps with cmd+tab. They run the entire width of whatever object they appear in but everything else on screen is fine. Everything looks normal during the startup process and the anomaly doesn't appear until I've logged into a user account. It happens with all user accounts. Rebooting doesn't help, nor does changing the display resolution or number of colors. I've tried trashing all sorts of com.apple.* preference files but that doesn't help. The only success I've had was when I zapped the PRAM, then changed from millions of colors to thousands, and then changed back to millions. But it only lasted a few hours. I didn't notice the moment the problem returned, so it might have been at some point when I woke the computer up from sleep. Any help figuring out the cause and effecting a lasting cure would be greatly appreciated.

Upon further investigation, it appears that the problem is at least partly if not wholly a software problem, notwithstanding the VRAM error.
New images to illustrate the problem are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dannyholt/sets/72157594551367040/
Discussion of the problem on MacFixIt is here: http://www.macfixitforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=tiger&Number=800767&page=0 &view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1#Post801918
Additional info: I've reinstalled the OS (10.4.8) to no avail. The problem occurs in all user accounts, at all screen resolutions, at all numbers of colors, and on an external display as well as the internal display.

The SMC is the System Management Controller, it controls power flow to hardware in the Mac
    For iMac and other desktops
-unplug the power cable and hold the power button for 10 seconds
    For portables with removable battery
-remove the power cable and battery then hold the power button for 10 seconds
    For portables without removable batteries
-connect the charger, press shift+control+option+power button

  • Vertical stripes appears and then system freezes

This is a ridiculous issue I am having from last 3 days. It started with nothing in specific but the I suddenly had these vertical stripes about an inch wide on the screen and it froze after that. I went to genius bar and he started the system in safe mode and it runs normally in safe mode but safe mode does not have all the functionality. I can't wrap my hear around this conflict that it runs properly in safe mode and it doesn't in normal mode. The repair is going to cost me a fortune. So, I am looking for some alternative solutions.
P.S: I have done the following things so far:
    1. running hardware test - it says everything is okay.
    2. wiping of PRAM - in fact did it several times.
    3. from some other forum tried fsck too.
The image of the screen is as follows:
    http://tinypic.com/r/29uszk9/6

Most likely culprit is bad RAM (hardware test results aside). Try opening up your MacBook and pulling out one stick, then the other, swapping them even, and see if you can isolate the problem that way. If this is Apple factory RAM, Apple should replace it if you are still under warranty.
If it's not the RAM, then it would be your graphics card, necessitating a motherboard replacement.
    Good luck!

  • How can I remove the blue vertical stripe in Code View?

I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5. When I open a document in Code View, there is a blue vertical stripe on the left of the document. This blue stripe bothers me when I try to concentrate on my work and I would like to remove it. Is there a way to do this? Is it a bug? Please help.
    Thank you!

Funny - until you mentioned it, I had never noticed that it was even blue, and I'm in Code view 24x7!
You can try turning on line numbers (VIEW | Code View Options > Line Numbers) - at least that will put something else in that vertical bar that is useful.

  • Adding Subtitle Creates Vertical Stripes

I have an iMovie HD project and when I first started adding subtitles to scenes everything worked fine. After the first few subtitles, things started going wrong. Now every time I try to add a subtitle iMovie, I type the title in and when iMovie goes into preview it creates black vertical stripes, as shown in the photo below:
    http://web.mac.com/colorado_freeskier/iWeb/Site/Photos.html
Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong? FYI, this happens on both video clips and photos and the size of my movie is nearly 16 gigs.
MacBook Pro 15" 2,16 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Well I looked into my Quicktime Library and removed (put on my desktop) the only item there, the Apple Intermediate Codec and still have the problem. When you say 3rd party plugins, where would I find these? I'm familiar with browser plug-ins but I'm guessing this is something different.
As far as versions go, I'm running OS 10.4.9, iMovie HD 6.03 and Quicktime 7.1.5. Also since my video camera stores in MOD format I must use Mpeg StreamClip to convert to DV. The odd thing is that iMovie has worked great on all previous movies I've put together, although those movies were much smaller.

  • Strange Vertical Stripes part 2

So I'm experiencing this vertical strip problem with my MBP 2.6GHz BTO purchased in April 2008. After reading all about this issue in the following thread of 687 replies. I noticed that the last post was on Sept 11, 2008. I also tried to post there but apparently the thread is now locked and cannot be added to:
    Here is the previous thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1423301&tstart=0
Has anything new developed from this issue since sept 2008? Has there been any recent firmware fixes? Are people continuing to experience this problem?
user essd was kind enough to post a picture of this problem here:
    http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mg2729smallnx2.jpg
-From what I gather from my research this is likely a firmware issue as there are several individuals that have experienced this issue after replacing their screens.
    -User essd states:"******************************************************************************** ********************
IF YOU ENCOUNTER THIS ISSUE, YOU SHOULD CONTACT APPLECARE AND REFERENCE TECHNICAL BULLETIN TS1258. IF YOU'VE ALREADY CALLED APPLECARE BUT YOU DIDN'T QUOTE THAT NUMBER, PLEASE CALL THEM BACK AGAIN AND CREATE A NEW INCIDENT WITH THAT NUMBER.
-Also from what I can tell this is by far and away the biggest MacBook Pro Display issue that has been discussed in the Apple Discussions forum. With over 21,000 page views and 687 posts. It is the only thread in the forum that has been locked.
Why would apple lock this thread?

because if you have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT & your system was built between 4-2007 & 9-2008, Apple is fixing them free of charge to the customer: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
So I would call or go to your local apple authorized service center to get the logic replaced.
